Are You Happy With Cosmetics In DB?

(avidCow) #21

If you’ve been playing fps games for 20 yrs or so like I have you’ve probably seen and owned hundreds of skin variants (for free). DB injects them with value by making them rare and random, but in the end it’s still just another texture that is superficially different to the others.

Show me some model variations (details, hats, boots and gloves etc) and I’ll show you my wallet.

I feel no real need to try and win any of these cosmetic looks. Tbh I find them underwhelming.

I’ll trade up my cards and such, but I only spent $10 in the game once simply to support the devs just a little. These small changes in the colors of their outfits don’t interest me in the least. If there were different cosmetic accessories, hairstyles, shirts, etc then I might care.

As it is I don’t care enough about them to even feel too upset about the RNG. Other than that, decent bronze loadouts aren’t difficult to get.

If the Containment War Elite Cases were their own separate thing with a 100% chance I would have actually bought some.

Games like TF2 and Guild Wars 2 have gotten me jaded enough of RNG, I could live with it in Dirty Bomb with the random loadout chances but for special things like this I’d be much more willing to spend money if my chance of getting something I want were more than 0%. And that’s not even counting the fact I already have a snowballs chance in hell of getting a loadout for a merc that I actually use ON TOP of it being a CW skin.

(Jostabeere) #24

I would pay money for the game, but right now it’s pretty non-rewarding. I would love CW loadouts, but you need to pay 34.99€ for 1 safe one. And I won’t pay the prize or maybe 3 nice games on steam for one random card which can be a merc I don’t ever wanna play.

(ostmustis) #25

a year of rent for an expected value = 1 for the desired card…

(Daergar) #26

The prices, the rng and the actual rewards are so completely out of touch with reality it’s scary.

If I want to spend money on chance, I’ll go to a casino where odds are higher and the drinks free.

Sell mercs, skins for mercs/weapons, finisher-move graphics, gore graphics pack, audio taunts.

Sell better designed “cases”, since that is all the rage. Whoever felt that 0.3% was a fun value to promote the game, I laugh at you, to your face, with gusto.

Yea - it’s kind of an odd sense of frustration.
I’d like to spend money to support the game, but I stand a good chance of feeling burned by it?

(Ctrix) #28

Whoever’s currently in charge of the Free2Play design department needs to be replaced. Simple as that.

They’ve proven they have no understanding of how to sell something or how the people with money think. Instead they try to farm money of kids who represent the demographic that makes compulsion buys and poor monetary decisions. But kids don’t own a lot of money. And this isn’t a mobile game. This is a core game. Sell it to the core demographic.

(FilterDecay) #29

anybody who has spent more then $100 on any game other then a mmo subscription is making poor choices.

(gg2ez) #30

If we could get cosmetics that actually alter the geometrical properties of a merc, that would be great. I long to see a banana hat on Fletcher.

(Dwu) #31

What cosmetics ? I mean they barely even change your looks apart from the founders skins.
The founders skins are what I would go and call cosmetics, too bad those aren’t up for grabs anymore, I’d be more than happy to pay for couple of those skins or some other skins that actually did change looks more than just recoloring your weapon.
Horrible sales approach from SD/Nexon.

(Lissxy) #32

All I’m gonna say… character customization.

(LCTR) #33

Yep - I wonder if there’s some UE3 limits for cosmetics with regards to memory usage?

Because, as you say, Char customization has proven a cornerstone of F2P game business since…well, TF2 hats?

They have heavily patched the engine, I don’t think so. I mean, TF2 and CSGO stress more my modest PC.

You can enjoy the skin… ehm… colors variation, for the first few weeks, when everything feel new, but later, all might start to feel boring.

Honestly I actually like what I see but, little character customization could be the way to go. Don’t know how they could handle this but, sure you could build your own Merc the way you want.

(p4v) #35

I want to see a cheap case with a guaranteed skin for a random mercenary. That would be a fair RNG that is worth trying.

I will never gamble with the cases they have in DB. A chance to get a random skin of a random loadout for a random merc…

(p4v) #36

This is the worst type of cosmetic you can come up with. I don’t want to see stupid bananas or chicken heads in this game. I’m for changing hats to different types like winter hats or WW II helmets but bananas get a big NO.

(ArsonistCow) #37

I’m very unhappy with the current way of handling cosmetics.
I’d be much more inclined to spend some money if skins were separated from loadouts and could be bought directly.
And I’m clearly not the only one:

(Diosito) #38

I’m not sure how to feel about the current system, I’ll just say I miss the weapons and skins customizatiom from Closed Beta times, I miss Forest Assault and Artifact loadout cards (and the music).
