Are these configs allowed or bannable?

(twenty) #1

Hello!

I’ve seen some people streaming / using these “fps configs”.
These configs gives the player a big advantage in seeing other players, mines etc… very easily.

In other games such as CS:GO, modding/editing the files gets the player kicked from the server if the file doesn’t match the servers.

(Humbug) #2

It’s not really a big advantage, apart from the FPS gain…
Get one yourself if you think so
I couldn’t play this game without editing because of the performance problems

(enchantingComet) #3

Uhhh no? Fps configs are using the commands available in the console so completely allowed.

And tons of cs:go players use Fps configs… Not sure where you get your info from buts it’s wrong.

(twenty) #4

Ofcourse they use configs, but it doesn’t allow them to edit the graphics to look like this.

(Zenity) #5

There is no graphics editing, this is all done with legal commands. You don’t get kicked for this, but the devs might eventually decide to disable these commands (like they are in every other modern shooter).

Personally, I love it. It looks really clean and allows me to play at stable FPS in 1080p, which I absolutely can’t with the normal low preset. But realistically I expect that the devs will eventually disable this. I just hope that I’ll be able to afford a new GPU by that time.

I’d bet my **s off a cfg at this level of ‘detail’ will eventually get killed out. Some people want to play a game that doesn’t look like 2002 anymore, and not be at a huge disadvantage towards those that will cut everything out.

A cfg like this alone will not make you a good player. But it will def. make you better.

(Rex) #7

SD said they will restrict cfgs where this for example won’t be possible.

(Lunar) #8

Link?

(chickenNwaffles) #9

The fps I get with this config makes it so I can actually play the game… If they remove the ability to edit the ini, people with worse computers will be at a huge disadvantage, because this game has shitty optimization.

There are only a few cvars that I would like for them to limit the amount on, so that smoke, explosions, and other effects aren’t invisible.

(riptide) #10

The optimization is quite poor, I bet the addition of merc skins has effected the performance. While I am going to throw money at SD if they make skins purchasable like dota. They absolutely need to add a client side option for bright skin or a standard skin.

As an aside I still play quake live with similar settings.

(Rex) #11

There is no link. I just often talk with SD.

Yeah dude the game is already fully released so don’t expect optimization.

Lol dude. XD Merc skins have absolutely nothing to do with this.

I say that because it was better in previous versions of the beta… and that’s the only notable change on the users end. (Aside from 1/3 of the mercs) Sure there may have been settings that were changed behind the scene that caused worse performance issues. But you’re not the one capable of answering that.

So please think before you speak.

Lies, can’t be. The game is playable even on my gtx285. Not excellent but playable. 1920x1080 all low.

That’s an old high end card which is still faster than the OEM 745 that came with my desktop PC not too long ago. I’ll upgrade eventually, just not right now.

With that config I can play 1080p at a constant 125 FPS, which is brilliant. Normal low settings are unsteady around 60 FPS, which is really not good enough for this type of game.

Rex. like myself is still under NDA but, there were many non visible changes with last patch that have affected gameplay

(Buttback) #16

Should be bannable IMO. I get that people are having framerate issues, so they should look at how to combat these configs after they optimize the game.

(Nail) #17

cfgs will be restricted when more final decisions are made about ranges allowable

Haha! 60 fps is my maximum fps lol
Still quite playable.

You made a dumb assumption not me.

Yeah it’s playable, the problem is that double the FPS is so much better, that I feel forced to use a crappy low resolution to achieve it (I was even using 4:3 since it gives more options). And believe me, that’s worse than this config.

I also got frequent stuttering even at low resolutions before, which are all gone with this config.

That said, it’s very possible that the same performance could be achieved with a somewhat less extreme config. And this definitely comes with the added benefit of making enemies stand out a bit more. I’ll take it for now (I actually prefer simple graphics like this), but I completely expect that it will eventually be locked, and I’m okay with that as well.
