Are smurfing/multiple accounts allowed in DB?

IMHO smurf account should not be allowed, it will hurt the game more than help it. DB will lose players to smurfs especially new players who will get slaugthered by them even in max lvl 5 servers.
For those who say they do it for their own enjoyment, what about the other players enjoyment? Are they not allowed to play against ppl of their own lvl??
It will take a good player in between two to four games to hit level 5. Hopefully a player choosing to level a smurf account won’t be using quick join and won’t be joining max level 5 servers and instead use the server browser and join all level servers.
Do you honestly believe smurfs will not join max lvl 5 servers?? For smurfs it’s the easiest way to get quick xp and the “fun” part of completely dominating the new players.
You are confusing people who want to level an alt smurf account with griefers. I know tons of people who have multiple accounts for quite a few games. That’s why I explicitly defined (and recently edited) my logic. There is a difference and, like anything else in life, many people have many reasons for doing things.

I’ve thought about creating a smurf account so I can play it entirely with a Steam controller just so I can figure out just how much worse I do comparatively. In that scenario it would most likely even be morally OK to start out on max level 5 servers due to my rather severe handicap in using it/learning it. But I wouldn’t mind getting it setup, see how good it is and seeing if it’s possible for some players (with handicaps or simply prefer a controller) to play DB at a competent level to a keyboard and mouse user. We get quite a few requests for full controller support which SD doesn’t want to officially add (there is controller support in DB but it’s UE3 related and wonky). The Steam controller could be a much better alternative for a lot of people.

I seriously doubt you or anybody would call me a griefer for that.
I know exactly what I’m talking about, yes griefers are the worst kind of smurfs but non-griefer smurfs will still have a negative effect on DB.

To make it more clear I’m not really talking for myself, I’m talking for all the potential players DB may loose cause of it.

Ask yourself the question would you like it if you start playing a game and most players you come up against are a few leagues above you in skill would you keep playing it?
Even if you want to be challenged if the skill gap is too big it will make you play better cause you don’t have the chance to get better.
I dare anyone to say that they like losing all the time (I don’t mean it as in losing matches).
When I first started playing dirty bomb it was the first PC fps I’d played in a while. So I was pretty terrible, but, as time went on I was forced to get better and voila. Finally hit mediocre.

It doesn’t matter (or at least it shouldn’t) what level of player kills you. I’ve seen level 5’s kill level 60’s . Do I care if the level 5 has another account? nope. Why should I? It doesn’t affect gameplay. Now, if they are smurfing to intentionally wreck level 5’s and under in max level 5 servers I have an issue with it, but I don’t see much that nexon or SD could do.

I agree with Watsyurdeal said back early on. Snuffing in a game like this really points to someone who has an ego. I love it when I get on a server and I see Amerika: I know my hardware holds me back and he is a better player than me because I stopped gaming for a long time, but I can trade kills with him. He’s a very nice guy so I enjoy playing with him whenever I can.

I joined a noob clan back in the day and one of our first scrims was against a quakecon competition team. Our team didn’t do poorly but the amount of trash talking was embarrassing. I messaged one of their players on a forum to apologize and I asked him flat out how I can be a better player. His advice: play against better players. It is very frustrating, but whenI joined a more ambitious team, we played against the top teams and it was frustrating. But we got better and learned. Watsyurdeal has the right attitude: don’t shy away from a challenge, embrace it. As a lvl 54, I get told I have no life, I’m a nerd, I’ll never have or get a girlfriend as a no life gamer (I have two kids, where’s their proof), I exploited the game to get that high, and other things that are certainly out of line. The community though are mostly nice people and I have fun which is why I continue to play.

Let them smurf. It’s a sad commentary on a fragile ego. I earned my lvl. And I love playing against skilled players. I’ve had some great comp matches playing with people we met in pick up games through dbnation. And I shall continue to do so

(neverplayseriou) #65

@Cappe u realise any high lvl can just join low lvls and stomp them?

(Cappe) #66

Yes, but there is a difference a high lvl player you can expect to be ( a lot) better than you but someone of the same lvl or lower is going to around your own skill level, so if all the high lvl players use smurf account suddenly everyone of lower or equal level are better than you. Then one would think: why should I try to get better if so many new players are already better than me after playing it so much less. I don’t mind playing against better players but I’d rather play them with their real lvl so I know that they really are that good and not something else.

@Amerika
So you clearly don’t understand it, don’t want to understand it or just plain ignorant cause bad effects of smurfing don’t apply to you.
You called me out for twisting your words or ignoring what you wrote, but to me it seems you are the one twisting, minimizing and ignoring what I am trying to say.

Can you deny that nobody will quit cause of getting stomped by smurfs?
Or that smurfs will cause the amount of hacker reports to go up?
Or that it will cause more frustration among the players?

And don’t give me that ppl call high lvl players names and what not, if players are that good they will get it anyway high or low lvl.

(Fiktio) #67

Have to say, I’m not often seeing people complaining about low level players that are too good. Usually people complain about “too high level” players. :'D

However, I don’t see a huge problem for having multiple accounts.
At the best scenario the owner will buy more stuff to the account with real money and this is good thing for developers.

Well I guess it’s not possible to have a serious discussion here, so just hide this thread and ignore the problem.

(kittz0r) #70

wow when People are like: low level must be shit “crying”…

(god1) #71

I started playing on my alt Steam account primarily to see how higher level people react to getting shit on by a low level account with default loadouts.
It’s also nice to see how my stats look without the noob days of my main account weighing them down.
@Cappe u realise any high lvl can just join low lvls and stomp them?
You mean like in Matchmaking when cobalts and elites are hiding their status as lower ranks?
Why don’t you take your head out of your ass and start to think?

People complain that players don’t learn but they are in imbalanced pub matches where apparently you aren’t suppose to take it seriously (since it’s only casuals and is for “stomping” hahhahahhhahahahh) or you can go to matchmaking which involves having fun of these players being spawnraped now even with smurfed accounts which totally makes them “learn game” while these smurf players complain why people whine about losing and don’t have enough people in MM. WTF is wrong with you?

It’s so moronically illogical that must come only from some kind of “I’m better than them and I can have my fun in a way whatever I please, they should just learn this” attitude, whatever is the excuse of smurfing (bad MM for them, different stats for controlled (wtf? )
Well I guess it’s not possible to have a serious discussion here, so just hide this thread and ignore the problem.
Welcome to the club!
That’s why this is basically the last message I post here.
The attitude of quite plenty of posters is beyond appalling. Including one moderator. He is supposed to be above this and he’s facepalming a discussion. Bravo!
His petty little elitism doesn’t show…at all.

The atmosphere is purely “git gud” which is basically just slap to the face with wet towel instead of answering the question. Where these people learn these things? Where is this magical happy valley if it’s not the pubs since the balance is so bad and basically even high level players just come to frag the hell out or “pub stomb” and in MM it’s bad matchmaking and now smurfing?

You learn being matched in enviroment that have about the same skill and knowledge of game that you are or bit less/bit more. It is simple as that. Then you climb the ladder.

Some people never will learn to look at the big picture. They think it’s all about you and me or their friends who are “good” or “got good” so anyone that might raise the question of some problem is just “not so good”. It’s not like people coming forwards with an issue might have serious concern that the small issue now might be bigger problem tomorrow.

If you want to have your fun and never see it might kill the development of the game and the growth of the community in the process, fine, do it. I don’t really care.

PS And the same people cry about people mocking their levels. WTF. Grow some balls.

So in other words, it’s ok when they’re high level because you know what to expect, but when they’re a low level you expect them to be worse.

Here’s a thought, stop underestimating people and always play at your best. If that’s a hard concept for you, you probably shouldn’t play multiplayer games.

Or if you could learn to grow up and stop thinking that world is a happy go lucky place where everyone panders your every need you’ll probably get somewhere.

There’s literally nothing you can do about smurfing since the game is free to play, even games like Counter Strike there are smurfs.

The reality is there are people out there who have such fragile egos that they have to stomp on people in order to keep it ok. Whereas others do not care, and will face every challenge head on no matter what. Try to be the second one I mentioned, and you’ll be fine.

If you stop worrying so much about shit you can’t change, and worry about what you CAN. Like your perifs, your aim, your playstyle, your manner of thinking, etc, you’ll probably find gaming much more enjoyable, because you no longer have to stop playing because something is ruining your fun.

And this sort of thing is life in general, work, sports, dating, all of this shit follows the same exact fucking principle. Worry about what everyone else does and you’ll stress yourself out, put all the same energy and time into yourself and you will accelerate past EVERYONE else.

So, please, grow up, both of you

This thread has become well and truly derailed into a pretty appalling argument. Please everyone, keep things civil and stay on topic for a thread. Nothing good can come from insulting others, or sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting loudly, hoping other people’s arguments will go away. Locking this now.
