yea, so, i bought a razer naga a week back, and i’m really enjoying my experience with it. i was just wondering if it’s concidered cheating to use the side buttons that my mouse has.
i pretty much just use 3 buttons on the side, to switch to primary, secondary and knife.
are macros ok?
I don’t get it, so is rebinding through the game fine or rebinding through Razer Software fine?
I’ve got a Steelseries Rival and I’ve made it so the side buttons hit “v-2-2” to call for ammo and I’ve been getting mixed answers. Is it ok or not?
@MissMurder or @CC_Fang confirmed that if you are using it for voice commands it should be no problems at all. I had a question regarding that and my keyboard for the exact same reason.

Thanks @Sniff the relief is appreciated.
What is OK: Rebinding functions in-game to mouse side buttons - these are pretty much the same as any regular button on your mouse/keyboard and give you no specific “advantage”, due to you still being required to carry out the same task, you are just pressing a different button.
What is NOT OK: Using software to bind multiple functions to one button - this is what a “macro” actually is; it’s a short (or sometimes, long) piece of script that executes when a single button is pressed, allowing you to do something that would normally take multiple button presses.
A prime example would be the long-jump, as this required the pressing of crouch and then the jump button, while sprinting. While at the moment, you are able to actually cheat this in-game through the use of the console, I don’t imagine it will stick around too much longer, however the example still stands. Pressing 1 button, instead of pressing crouch AND jump, is what a macro would be - and thus, the software required to do these externally is banned on the anti-cheat. (External software works by “tricking” your PC into thinking you are pressing certain buttons at a certain speed/time, while in fact you are only pressing one)
So, to summarise… You are 100% OK to rebind any key you like to those buttons ^.^

@Faraleth so voice commands is cheating (requires multiple button presses). So confused
@gg2ez Technically, if you are using a macro for it (ie. using one button for what would otherwise be multiple button action), that would be classed as “cheating” by the anti-cheat. I personally wouldn’t risk using it, but it’s up to you.
If MissMurder has confirmed that using macro’s for voice commands is alright, it MIGHT be OK, but remember the anti-cheat is an automated program, it might not know the difference. :L
Native gaming mice/keyboards software are not hooked by NGS as they are necessary to make your gear work properly. This only means that their usage are tolerated.
But anyway, as long as the commands you’re creating is possible through the game via console, you should not worry, those are allowed. Auto long jump is a possible console binding so there’s no trouble with it.
The only thing that can lead you to a possible ban threat are the deviant one that can properly fiddle with the game experience, like recoil compensating macros or auto-clickers. Mainly aiming-aid macros in other terms. But you’ll first need to get reported by someone and inspected.
Just to be clear, native gear software are totally able to create advanced macros. So there’s a potential breach there, but they can’t afford to force us to use our gear at 3% of their potential. So they have loosen the security a bit here, but they have another layer behind, as this is the kind of thing experienced eyes/GM stat tracker can detect.
A voice bind only has 1 function, I think this is save to say. Even if it would actually bring up different menues.
SD veterans were using voice binds for almost a decade or even longer. They would suffer from banning them
Well, if @MissMurder said so - I guess I’ll take my chances
I don’t think NGS picks up peripheral’s software.

Only native ones which include your mice/keyboards drivers. Other most used third party macro software are not allowed.
Why does Long Jump require pressing two keys in the first place ? What a sorry attempt at increasing skill ceiling… Why not make reload take five keys or a mouse gesture ?
I have Duck and Sprint next to each other, the two keys no one should ever need at the same time. Moving crouched and sprinting are sort of the opposite, so I thought it’s fine to use the same finger for either of them. Then I read about long jump.
Screw you. I’m not re-binding and re-learning my layout. “Jumpcmd | Duck”. HAX!

It was a mediocre attempt at defending your point but it kinda went downhill as soon as you stated your inability to press 2 keys at the same time.
I can’t reach the space bar with my pinky. My movement keys are on Home, End, PgUp, PgDn.
In this layout I can reach more keys than on WASD. Enter, shift,CTRL, BKSPC, arrows, keypad.
