Are less than 10% of Brink sales for PC?!?

(Smokeskin) #1

I’ve seen some salers figures that suggest that over 90% of sales are on consoles. Is that really true? That’s well and truly ****ed up.

Why are everyone on consoles? Because they don’t or can’t pay for a gaming PC? I have a 360 also, but that’s just so I can play something in the living room also, mostly SP stuff like GTA and Dead Space. Can’t really imagine playing anything serious on it.

I just can’t wrap my head around the console market being so big for something like Brink. Where did all the PC gamers go?

(Kurnuttaja) #2

Currently PC has more active players than both console versions, so the 10% is most likely false.

pc gamers gave up. many games arnt really going into pc anymore. i can no longer afford another gaming computer… lets not mention what happened to my old one (3000 dollars now useless because its oyt of date.) and because consoles have become the overwhelming market.

really since xboxes are cheaper and their specs arnt as low as everyone likes to say they are people are just fine. many people dont even care that pcs have a graphics upgrade anymore because xbox now feels so natural and as long as its fun none really cares nah mean.

though i do feel sad for pc gamers they are normally ranters and hackers/ moders. IE i got tired of losing to them

(PsYcHo) #4

I don’t think so.
But… i still can’t understand why people play shooters in consoles. Thats just… you know. (I don’t want to flame console players with that though^^, just saying that I don’t understand it)
Btw, it seems like PC has the most active Brink players

“some salers” are just overpaid/uneducated lowlife PR-newbies from corporations.
actually 95% of games sales[including Brink, sure] is on PC.
and 95% of games for other platorms are 95% garbage in 95% cases.

Console is cheaper and more accessible. No system requirements to pay attention to. And for a while easier to hook up a console to your TV. Cheaper=(Same game) why pay more? Also, look how many units the Wii sold. 86 million. It is far in away the cheapest way to game! (PS2 doesn’t count because its previous model.) Brink probably sold the most copies on Xbox 2-1 or 4-1 to PS3. And then the rest is PC. I come from PC background just so you know. Xbox 360 was my first system since Nintendo 1st gen.

Yeah. This guy Brandon on Justin.tv was streamin him playing when it got released in the US, I was watching it waiting for it to be released here in Europe. Then two days in, I open the stream and he’s moving and aiming totally without fluidity, and I was thinking what’s wrong with him? Then after a while I notice the circular supply bar/ability selector. Controllers seem to be for racing and fighter games.

(brbrbr) #8

lie.
and when you plus both TCO and neurons lost during [attempts]to use “consoles” hardware/software, you see bigger part of picture.

(wolfnemesis75) #9

PC look better, have better graphics, and run the games smoother. But are more expensive and less accessible to the lay person and casual gamer who just wants to play a game.

(Sinner) #10

Uhhh… I don’t think it has anything to do with consoles vs PCs. I’ve heard that Steam doesn’t ever release it’s sales info, which means that comparing sales across platforms is always skewed(especially considering this is a Steamworks game).

(Breo) #11

It’s also “easier” to make a console game? Because you don’t have to deal with software/hardware configurations etc.?

I was looking forward to LA Noire for the PC :frowning: and found this:
“Rockstars Geronimo Barrera admitted that a PC port is complicated and a variety of PC configurations of players around the world mountains tons of errors.”

(wolfnemesis75) #12

Yeah…but stop 10 people on the street and ask them if they even know what Steam is. But I bet at least 1 has played a game on a console recently. Now ask them if they played or seen someone play Call of Duty! Not surprising at all that PC accounts for 10%. most causal gamers migrated from PC to either Iphone or a console back when PS2 came out? First real competition to a PC? I do know MS created the Xbox because of this to get in on the market and all the gamers they lost to PS2.

What? I’ve read plenty of people talking about LA Noir on forums, and they were talking about a console game? ROFL! Never crossed my mind that it wasn’t a PC game.

If you could use a mouse on consoles I could imagine myself using it for serious gaming, but of course that’ll never happen, it would totally unbalance most games for controller users.

(dommafia) #14

Those numbers did not include ANY of the digital sales. No steam data, no direct2drive data. As far as I know pc gamers buy more on digital platforms than going to the store. Being able to play a game 5 minutes after release, midnight? priceless.

There is no Gears of War 2 and 3 on the PC :stuck_out_tongue:

(wolfnemesis75) #16

And not having to listen to an annoying store clerk asking you if you want to also preorder <insert game title> too or join their stupid club. Ah, no, I just want my game please!

(tokamak) #17

I planned on getting a physical copy, but then I realised I had to leave my keyboard.

(brainsnakes) #18

This information is being misconstrued, i’m pretty sure. The 10% thing means the pc version of brink only accounted for ten percent of the physical retail copies sold. Considering that most retail game stores seem like crappy pawn shops with no pc selection, most of us who wanted to play it on steam just… bought it on steam. And they dont release those numbers, so any claim on the percentage of brink userbase thats pc is a total assumption, unless sd releases that info with their upcoming stat site.

I’ve never had trouble finding a server with 12 - 15 players and under 100 ping on steam, so it doesn’t really matter to me.

Edit: haha, well done folks. Ninja’d like three times as i tried typing this out on my cellphone

(AnthonyDa) #19

^This!

Also, only ~4k players max per day, the end is near.

(dommafia) #20

Third person shooters are awesome on consoles. No argument there.
