Are less than 10% of Brink sales for PC?!?

(jeavis) #21

I’m a PC gamer purest and I’ve been dedicated to PC gaming since text based adventure games. But if a console developer would make a console with REAL keyboard and mouse support I’d switch (and melt the faces of the controller kiddies).
It’s also “easier” to make a console game? Because you don’t have to deal with software/hardware configurations etc.?

I was looking forward to LA Noire for the PC :frowning: and found this:
“Rockstars Geronimo Barrera admitted that a PC port is complicated and a variety of PC configurations of players around the world mountains tons of errors.”
I’m not surprised with those Rockstar noobs, the GTA4 port was terrible… almost as if they just ran some emulator in the background. Need a 5ghz CPU to maintain 60 fps and the gfx card is irrelevant. Terrible engine.

So instead of fixing it they just decided to not release LA Noir or that Western game on PC. Fu them.

(Smokeskin) #23

That makes much more sense.

Yeah I don’t think these numbers reflect reality.

Also, PC game is not dead and is serious. Upgrading a rig is like new CPU + new Graphic Card + new Mobo / ram and sometimes a drive.
Costs me maybe 300$ or 400$ maximum, and this, every 2-3 years, and not all at once usually. Got the same hull from 5-6 years ago, same screen, keyboard, mouse and so… It is not THAT expensive to upgrade a PC because you don’t need the top rig, even good-quality medium gear will suffice. Also, you save money on the games’ price, therefore, I don’t see the money argument as valid as it was a few years ago…
Plus, you use the PC for so much beside gaming (painting, music making, multimedia station of your home… video editing, TV watching…).

I don’t have a TV, I don’t have a Musicplayer, I don’t have consoles… etc : I have a PC. If you can use the PC for all it can do, in the end it is wayyyy cheaper than buying all the other goods altogether.
Oh, I forgot. On PC, I’ve been replaying the console hits from my childhood (and those games I didn’t get the chance to play at the time) with emulation… I’m sorry, consoles just can’t compare. They have good games, but the PC can do so much ! Sorry for this little offtopic rant !

(system) #25

Dom is right, they can’t include digital sales because that information is not public so they just make up bull**** statistics.

(Smokeskin) #26

I don’t think you’ll never get mouse for a console. Controller users wouldn’t have a chance against mouse users, it would be totally unbalanced, wouldn’t it?

(Stun) #27

Prob hasnt helped Steam pulling not long after its calamity release, even after the patch you can’t get it on STEAM thats going to hurt PC sales no doubt.

(Smokeskin) #28

I got mine on Steam, isn’t it only a UK legal issue?

(PsYcHo) #29
^This!

Also, only ~4k players max per day, the end is near.
Are you serious? I don’t think so
I think 2k or 3k will stay a stable number for a good time.
And thats enough. The end is far away, i think.
But thats an other topic^^

(Calelith) #30

These topics always make me laugh for the following reasons

 1. You get PC players acting like they are gods gift to shooters and that people who use controllers are monkeys

 2. You get the usually bashing of the opposite platform for moronic reasons by people who seem to have some sort of fan-boyish love for their chosen platform and refuse to see its flaws.

On to my points.

Firstly it will sell better on consoles because no matter what people say consoles have a wider market, the lay person wont know where to buy/build a gaming pc let alone upgrade it every few years, not to mention gaming PCs have nearly no presence on the marketing scene, so most people who buy a game will get it on a console. Even with the Direct download sales i doubt it would be near the console sales.

Secondly the who thing of saying a PC should be used for gaming because you prefer a Mouse and board is stupid, and the other argument that shooters started on the PC is even worse, films started on tapes that doesn’t make a tape better than a DvD/Blue Ray disk. Also occasionally when i play a shooter on the PC i use my 360 controller for fun, when i manage to wipe the floor with the rest of the room what does that mean? where they all using a controller? because surely mouse and board would always win because its the best. It comes down to what you are good with, a good controller user will be more than a match for a good keyboard player, and when putting a good player against a bad player no matter what they use they will wipe the floor.

Thirdly for me PCs are become a good place only for RTS games and mostly MMOs, but i feel the next gen of console might take the MMO market. This does not mean PCs suck at all other game modes and i wont proclaim they do because this is my opinion. Games do look better on the PC but i’m not going to pay the price of a new console just to play a game in a slightly better graphics setting.

These threads as i said always devolve into Herp Derp fests with the idiots on both sides coming out to slander/troll the other side, we are all gamers and we all have the same hobby.

I totally have that shirt…
It comes down to what you are good with, a good controller user will be more than a match for a good keyboard player, and when putting a good player against a bad player no matter what they use they will wipe the floor.
A bad player vs a good player doesn’t tell us anything, what matters is what two equally skilled players can achieve with controller vs mouse.

It just seems to me that with a mouse, you can both flick faster and aim more precisely. It also seem super awkward that you have have to remove your thumb from the stick to press buttons, and so many of your fingers are tied up actually holding the controller. I have eight fingers I actually use for pressing buttons, on controllers you have four. Typically I use two for movement, leaving six, while controllers use one for aiming and one for movement, leaving only two, that’s a factor of 3 in favor of the pc player.

The one upside I see to controllers is analog movement control, while the pc WASD movement is binary. And not needing a desk of course

(NathanDavid) #33

Besides being at a disadvantage in regards to aim, consoles are also at a disadvantaged in regards to movement. Being able to maneuver through a map quickly and effectively is a huge tactical advantage. Though, it may be simple and even elementary to a PC user, it’s not so simple with a controller. Crouch-jumping, strafe-jumping, bunny-crouching & bunny hopping all while still maintaining precise aim is unheard of, and I’m going to go as far as to say not even possible, with a controller.

So, not only are they not going to to be able to out-shoot me, they might not even be able to hit me.

If I had the cash for it right now, I would love to purchase a XIM3 (M+KB adapter for XBOX 360) and analyze/document my experience.

(evaksrathi) #34

Picture this:
You are inside a Cube (if u seen the movie CUBE u already know)
there are 6 sides to a cube. 4walls +floor +ceiling.

imagine there was a Challenge mode where u got attacked from all sides;
You are required to headshot the first person you see,
Then turn 180degrees instantly and headshot the person behind you.
then from the ceiling
back to the floor
etc, etc…

MKB scores will ALWAYS be better than controller on such a challenge due to higherspeed + more refined control.

Laser+ precicion > mechanical precicion. mouses will continue to get higher and higher dpi

and physics says the electron will continue to be more precise than any xbox or PSx contoller. Lack of MKB function is what keeps me from buying a console. it is simply inferior at the top-end tiers.

(Stormchild) #35

Playing a FPS on a pad reminds me of ealier keybord-only gameplays for FPS like doom or Dukie Nukem… arrows, + Alt for strafing etc… It did the job, but once you taste the mouse, it is hard to take pad gameplay seriously because you feel like it’s not going fast enough compared to what you got used to. It generates frustration.

Of course, it’s easier to think burgers and fries are good food if you never tasted premium food before. (Just teasing).
The thing is, most of my friends who stopped playing on PC and go more on consoles share one thing in common : they ust want to sit in the soffa and take advantage of their expensive big flat screen they bought on credit… also, they like to have friends to play together with beers and so on.
Just like interactive TV. Some of them were doing LANs back in the days, too, and for them it is the same excitement for less money (at least that’s what they think, because TV + console + higher priced games + internet + gold membership or whatever for live and psn > PC + screen + internet + lower priced games).

Anyway, people get more lazy, but also the consoles themselves cost less and the economy is in bad shape. No wonder consoles get the market share.

(AZTEC-SJSU) #36

Good points made… Definitely will consider getting a game for my new laptop.
Have not picked up a pc game since command & conquer - red alert.
Gamer since “pong”

So you’re just going to leave it at that? No real reason to justify your point, just calling it stupid.

The only reason consolers can half way get around a game like Brink is because they design it to work on consoles (not much elevation change, slow movement, large spray on the guns), but it still sucks compared to playing on a PC. Try playing a game like Quake or UT on a console, you can’t do anything worthwhile.
