Anyone use Grenade Shooting?
I don’t see the point of this ability if you cook your nades… well. I can tell you confidently that I can subconsciously prime my grenades to explode exactly where and when I want them to. (seen grenades fly from balcony to balcony and exploding before they land in the Resort map? That’s me!) That’s definitely more effective when you can make your nades burst in mid air instead of waiting for it to fall and then shooting it. It’s also near impossible for your opponent to counter as the nade explodes before he can see where it lands.

Well, then again most peeps can’t. Been doing it throughout wolf ET and ETQW.
Unless you turn the corner and suddenly realise you need the grenade NOW!
The ability lets you throw and explode without requiring cooking time (Lets have a look at one I prepared earlier reaches for oven).
Cooking also means you’re not firing while cooking. I’m not saying cooking is a worthless skill. Cooking properly is an awesome skill. This ability can complement that skill though. It’s for the “OMGWTFBBQ” moments where you can’t prep a grenade.

Takes too long. Also you dont wait for it to fall…just shoot it in mid air where you want it to explode…easy…perfect nades every time. I cook grenades aswell but there is literally no point in holding on to one and getting shot when you could have released it, exploded it perfectly by shooting it then already started shooting them instead.

To add to this:
Let’s say both teams are in a firefight and you need to get a grenade out to break the opposition. You start cooking.
At exactly the same time your nemisis on the other team has the same idea but he’s got grenade shooting.
He throws and shoots and boom. You were still cooking. It just allows you to be quick. Cooking is better when you have time to do it, but sometimes you need it NOW!

I only used it for the achievement. I prefer the undersling grenadelauncher, if used properly the grenade can take out an enemy with a single shot. Normally it does more than 50% damage and gives you an advantage over the most buffed enemies. Another advantage is when used against a group of enemies knocking them down and giving you a good chance when outnumbered.

Bit off topic: the combat intuition is the most important one around especially against snipers thinking to get an easy headshot. Just turn around, slide and aim the underslung grenadelauncher and they’ll regret ever pointing their gun at you

Am I the only one who thinks they move around too much to need combat intuition? I’ve never used it and therefore will never miss it.

From the comments on here I guess I’m missing out.

But from my perspective by the time someone realizes I’m aiming at them it’s usually too late. If my crosshairs are on your character you’ll know from the bullets I’m hitting you with, you won’t need to spend an ability point to know I’m aiming at you. And if I see you start to turn to aim at me because you have combat intuition, it’s also a little too late for it to save your life as far as I can tell.

As far as snipers, I never really get sniped at that often so…

I guess I just need to try it out.

My wife and I both tried out Combat Intuition for the first time last night. Now all our characters have it. I even had to respec one of my level 20 characters because I had spent all his ability points.

As for Grenade Shooting, I’ve been analyzing my play style and I just don’t use frag grenades. I use all the specialty grenades for the various classes but I don’t find myself using the frag grenade at all. I assume Grenade Shooting only works with the frag grenade?

Also, why does the underslung grenade launcher attachment make Grenade Shooting useless? My main weapons are the Fallout Carb 9 or the minigun so I don’t have the option for the grenade launcher attachment and I haven’t tried it.

When you use the underslung launcher the grenade automatically explodes on impact. Therefore, there’s nothing to shoot if you will. When playing soldier with all the upgrades to the frag grenade the underslung is quite awesome.

Since I use a script that lets me toggle between grenade and shooting on mouse1, I don’t really use grenade shooting that much. 99% of the time I cook it and time it to explode when it reaches the enemy… half the reason is because that’s what i’m used to doing, the other half is because I pretty much suck at trying to shoot that nade after I’ve thrown it :frowning:

Meaningless tidbit: On SecTow a guy up high throw a grenade at me, and I threw one up towards him at the same time… both grenades hit each other in mid-air and bounced them both to the sides. It amused me.

You can be terribly inaccurate with your shots and still blow up the nade. You just need to shoot in it’s general vicinity. Not advocating you use the ability there as it’s not for everyone.

Continuing with “meaningless tidbits”: Last night I was using the underslung and shot around the same time this other dude threw his grenade. Both nades hit mid air and we both got suicides on the Obits.

Ah, my wife has a medium build soldier with all the frag upgrades, I’ll tell her to try a gun that can have this attachment. Sounds very useful and it sounds way better than the Grenade Shooting ability.

Not meaningless but hilarious! I wonder if this is related to their larger “hitboxes” that Mad Hatter mentioned.

Nade shooting is the crack
Makes it a LOT easier to knock down enemys with nades
i love it

(iezza) #52

This, quad kills for the win, even without it you can still mop up afterwards with the AR. I love the explosion with the upgraded. before it was liek a little dust thing. now its KABLOOOM!

(nephandys) #53

Yeah the regular frag explosion is pretty underwhelming but the visual with the upgrades is sweet.

The hitbox of the grenades is completely & ridiculously insane. I bought Grenade Shooting to get the trophy, and jumped into a game of Security Tower as Security. It was the first objective, so I sprinted through all the fences to the ramp right in front of Resistance spawn, and threw a grenade… at the exact same second that somebody blinded me with a flashbang.

“Gee thanks” I thought, and sprayed wildly with my Kross into the blurry whiteness for the ****s & giggles… “You have earned a trophy. Great shot kid! One in a million”.

THE FIRST GRENADE I EVER THREW WITH THE ABILITY… and I was BLINDED. And I SPRAYED AIMLESSLY.

Guess thats one in a million

I have to say I don’t really like the ability. I believe it works for all grenades and not just your own. For example I have cornered enemies who just throw uncooked nades at me in desperation only for them to blow up in my face and kill me as I shot it whilst aiming for the enemy player.

I am very good at cooking nades so it just seems like a wasted point and a liability in all honesty as it does more damage than good.
One of the most powerful abilities available.

I use many times every game i play, makes grenades infinitely more usefull
Apoc, thanks a lot for this post!
Following this, I made a new toon targeting a Soldier/Op build, and one of the first thing I gave him was Grenade Shooting
You are right, it’s insanely usefull. I can’t wait to see the result of it with upgraded grenades.
With this in mind, it makes nearly all Soldier abilities required
