Anyone use Grenade Shooting?

(Shadowcat) #21

Combat intuition also tells you relatively how far away you’re being aimed at from, based on the size of the wedge. This is useful for knowing when a guy is right behind you (huge wedge) or when a sniper has you in his sights (a very skinny yellow sliver)

I dont have any characters without combat intuition.

As for the original topic, I don’t use Grenade shooting, but only because I don’t use grenades all that much. Most times I prefer using pips to support my teammates, and the times i do use a grenade, its usually me just lobbing one into a room before I run in.

As a soldier, the one class where the ability would be useful to me, I end up using a GL attachment most of the time, making it useless.

…so you would rather make them panic and maybe jump than to kill them quickly…riiiight

(Super-Pangolin) #23

Well how often to grenades actually kill people? It’s not a reliable method, that’s for sure. If you make them jump back and panic, that’s momentarily removing them as a threat and giving you more time to act on it. I often throw grenades into doorways or chokepoints, not to expect kills, but to prolong the enemy’s advance.

(Apoc) #24

If you use grenade shooting effectively, grenades can often 1 hit kill lights and will take most people down below half health and knock them down, leaving easy kills. Even more usefull when enemies are bunched up. Its reliable, and effective, and they will most likely think they are going to die and try to make sure they kill you…i would anyway

(Shadowcat) #25

Yeah, if you use them this way and dont cook, you can hold a larger group of people back a full 3 seconds or so, more or less the same time as if you had knocked them down, without using any skill points. Granted, you also don’t do any damage, either.

Well, I do seem to tend to play more on the defensive side of things. Different uses for different people I 'spose.

indeed, i dont always shoot them obviously, often i will throw them in a doorway and set up a mine in the room, using the grenades long timer as cover from being hit when vulnerable, same with cps and objs etc. But having the option, and using it when appropraiate i have found extreamly effective

This thread sure taught me. I assumed that grenade shooting was useless because it would be hard to shoot grenades in mid-air as they come towards you… Didn’t even think about it as an offensive ability.

Gonna buy it on my Operative/Soldier hybrid next level up I get.

Though, how easy is it to hit the grenades? Can you do it easily enough with a single shot from an AR, or are you better of spraying in its general direction with an SMG?

You really just have to point in its general direction and pull the trigger.

… starting to think likewise. May add this with my Jack of All Trades Dude.

(Mad Hatter) #32

It’s very easy to hit your grenades. I’m pretty sure that their hitboxes are quite a bit larger than the grenades themselves. No worries there.

I thought it would be useless at first too, but now my frags feel all but useless without it.

While its not that easy to get a nade frag with a cooked nade because of the timing, its much more likely that youll score even double kills with grenade shooting. Simply because it explodes right on the spot. And if you dont get the nade kills, you are very likely to have your crosshair pointed at low healthbars lying on the ground.

And this goes for offense and defense.

Together with the wallhack eh radar its even more powerful. Priceless to know a group of guys rushing around the corner with not enough time left for a cooked nade. Drop the nade and start fraggin when they come the next second! 4v1 and you get them all!

And combat intu is also a very effective ability. This comms hack vs combat intu thing is also not a valid discussion to me. You simply cant have a hack active all the time. Its CH+CI not versus.
All these nice moments where you spot your enemy because of this skill… I mean there are so many people out there that cant shoot you properly in the back. Or the guys with silencers and the disguised operatives. All the campers… Ah so many situations where this helps to frag instead of getting fragged.:oppressor:

LOL at all the people saying the grenades arent powerful, mainly all those using the soldier class, WTF upgrade your nades and then please explain to me exactly how weak they are…

Funny how half the time someone talks down about a class, ability, gun, map, whatever its mostly because they just dont know how to use/approach it correctly and blame the thing rather then their lack of experiance.

If SD has taught us anything its that EVERYTHING in the game is there for a reason and just because you havnt found a use for something yet doesnt make it useless to anyone else except youself.

(BioSnark) #35

They really are. They should be smaller than they are on PC even with the weapon spread.

(jazevec) #36

Just how big the bonus from Frag Blast and Grenade Damage (numbers appreciated)? I know base damage of grenades is 90… which sounds low, especially when light has 120 HP.

(FireWorks) #37

I had this damage in spawn bug with a heavy nade beside my corps.
I survived barely with about 10HP with Battle hardend and double command post bonus (3bonus pips). 120+30+25+20=195

Assumed I survived with 15HP which would make the damage 180 of the heavy, the double of the normal nade.

Quoted for truth. My first character has it but my other 3 don’t. My next character will have it.

(nephandys) #39
That was actually going to be my next question. I constantly Comms Hak with my Operative.

So Combat Intuition would be wasted on that character or on any character in a team with an Operative who always Comms Haks?

-JJ
Personally I would never forego Combat Intuition altogether, but I would hope that the operative on my team (I usually play with friends) would use the Comms Hack ability judiciously.

OT: I tried out grenade shooting last night and I gotta say 1) It’s fun and 2) I’m going to work this into some of my builds.

(Fatfool) #40

I don’t see the point of this ability if you cook your nades… well. I can tell you confidently that I can subconsciously prime my grenades to explode exactly where and when I want them to. (seen grenades fly from balcony to balcony and exploding before they land in the Resort map? That’s me!) That’s definitely more effective when you can make your nades burst in mid air instead of waiting for it to fall and then shooting it. It’s also near impossible for your opponent to counter as the nade explodes before he can see where it lands.

Well, then again most peeps can’t. Been doing it throughout wolf ET and ETQW.
