Anyone use Grenade Shooting?

(Jimmy James) #1

I was wondering if anyone uses the Grenade Shooting skill. I usually just cook a grenade before I throw it and when I throw it I can’t even see it to shoot at it. The only grenades I ever see are the ones the enemies throw that land at my feet.

I’m just bringing this up because I have some level 20s with extra skill points to spend and I don’t know what to put the points into.

I don’t use it but have come up against quite a few enemies that do and it seems to backfire lol. I will throw grenades at them and they will accidentally shoot them making them blow up right in there face when they may have been able to run out of its area of affect when it hit the ground.

No…I just want to be in control of the ability…unlike Intuition which seems like a more natural passive ability, there are more straight-forward abilities that I’d rather have over Grenade Shooting. Many of the Universal Abilities steal a point away from Classes. Not a bad thing, just some UAs are more cosmetic in away…not making any sense. But my gut tells me to choose other abilities. Someone will set me straight…

It is quite good, it isnt as hard as it seems, and theres and achivement for it " nice shot kid! one in a million!" for 10G or whateva (bronze) on ps3

This is one of the abilities I never take. I got the achievement and then immediately re-spec-ed the character.

I also don’t take Sense of Perspective (I would rather have the ability to rotate around an objective, and therefore potentially be able to dodge bullets than be able to watch my own back). Nor do have I ever taken Downed Fire. I would generally rather have another class-specific ability than this.

Not to get off topic but what does Combat Intuition do exactly? (Maybe I should have called this thread “What Universal Abilities Should I Get?”)

I always get Battle Hardened, Supply Max Increase, Sprinting Reload, Resupply Rate Increase, Silent Running, and Downed Fire. Though I’m beginning to doubt the effectiveness of Downed Fire since I rarely get the chance to use it. I’ve never tried the other Universal Abilities.

Grenade shooting is really powerful when you just don’t have the time to cook the nade and hitting it isn’t difficult. It’s much easier than shooting a flyer drone in etqw and seems like you have to point at it and fire, not really hit it.

(St NickelStew) #9

My list is the same as yours, except I always get Combat Intuition rather than Downed Fire. I personally find Combat Intuition to be very helpful … won’t leave home without it.

(Apoc) #10

One of the most powerful abilities available.

I use many times every game i play, makes grenades infinitely more usefull

(TeoH) #11

Mandatory ability, if you’re soldier’ing without it then you’re doing it wrong.

(Mad Hatter) #12

I use it with every character. It’s incredibly useful. Being in control of when and where your grenade explodes is definitely worth the skill point, especially for Soldiers.

(QUIK420) #13

Meh if you take an underlsung GL for your AR then it makes grenade shooting pretty useless. Definitely get combat intuition over grande shooting on ANY character. Combat intuition puts a yellow indicator in the direction of someone AIMING at you. Sort of the same as the blood indicator when you get shot (shows direction of shooter) but it happens when some1 has you in their sights not just when you get shot. It pretty much saves your @rse against those pesky snipers. Combat intuition and slideeeeee to cover.

(Jimmy James) #14

Ah, that does sound useful. Does the enemy have to be using the iron sights/scope or just pointing their gun in your direction?

Not entirely sure. Im positive it works while ppl are ADS at you and am pretty sure that it works if you have your hipfire cross hair pointed at them too. I say this because I am pretty sure it is why bots will turn around and shoot you if you are aimed at them even if you haven’t taken a shot (because the bots have CI).

Its really a very useful ability and one that I have on all my characters. You have no idea how many times I have almost been sniped or shot in the back and this thing tells you “HEY WATCH OUT GUY TRYING TO KILL YOU FROM ____ DIRECTION.”

(nephandys) #16

It might be worth mentioning at this point that the Op ability comms hack ruins combat intuition. Since intuition only works with enemies that are not currently showing on your radar and comms hack makes everyone show up on your radar, CI ceases working.

Grenade Shooting = Adrenaline counter.

Can’t get close enough to knock over the Adren’d player? Can’t wait to cook a grenade but gotta stop the defuse? Toss a nade and shoot it in the engineer’s face. Problem solved.

USE THIS ABILITY folks. In fact, Adren needs to be re-added to competition.

That was actually going to be my next question. I constantly Comms Hak with my Operative.

So Combat Intuition would be wasted on that character or on any character in a team with an Operative who always Comms Haks?

(Super-Pangolin) #19

I only used it so I could get the trophy. I prefer not to use it, because when the grenade icon appears at your feet you get that sudden wave of adrenalin and disorientation, as you jump away to avoid it. That panic can be used to your advantage.

Combat Intuition is a must, imho. Any warning is essential in a game with so many attack angles because of SMART.
