Anyone here use SplitFish controllers on their consoles while playing Brink??

The “navigation” controller (left hand) has a sensitvity wheel, 0-10. The trick is to find the sweet spot between the game’s sensitivity, and the controller’s.

EDIT: You can actually see that sensitivity wheel I’m talking about in the picture that’s in this thread… look at the Thumb Analog’s 7-o’clock for the little white “3 4 5” on the wheel.

But for the mouse-look, you’re stuck with whatever sensitivity the game sets or does the wheel control both devices?
He’s playing on a PS3, Amish. How very imperceptive of you.

I tldr’d the rest of your post, but not out of disrespect. If I missed something that’s still relevant, let me know and I’ll go back and read it.

OK, seriously… don’t take this the wrong way, if I’m mistaken.

You guys DO know that the XIM is just an adapter, RIGHT?

EDIT: wow… sorry about the triple post.
I have no stake in this, but after reading a bunch of your posts, I’ve come to the conclusion that you’re a class A dickhole.

The wheel pretty much controls only the mouse-look. Or, maybe a better/more accurate way to say it, is that mouse-look is the only noticeably affected control.

(SinDonor) #45

Ah, cool. So, with the wheel at 10 and the Brink settings at max, it still feels sluggish??

A little, but bear in mind the FragFXV.2 I have is a year or two old, and the newer versions might be more sensitive, and able to achieve faster panning/movement.

Plus, I was using my heavy soldier (w/ Chinzor)… there is that as well. Tonight I will play my light Op/Eng and see if there’s any difference.

Cool. Lemme know. I may have to pick up one of these newer models. Love me some K&M. My thumbs just don’t work right since I grew up with K&M starting back in the days of Wolfenstein 3D. I didn’t get into console FPS games until GoldenEye64. By then, I was already an old dog.
Gave Brink a whirl with the FragFXV.2 last night. Going to need to get in a lot of time with it to get better.

Maybe the newer versions (Shark, Barracuda, etc.) are different, but with vertical & horizontal sensitivities maxed, and sensitivity maxed on the Splitfish… it was still a little sluggish.

Will report again after tonight, as I plan to get in several hours of gametime to toy around with it some more.
“sluggish”?

Did you have any problems with the wrist-flick 180s, or are you referring to the “floatyness”?

I hear that a lot of the time FPS devs will configure their console multiplayers in a way so as to neutralize the advantages of mouse controllers by a bit. Kind of like some the the tricks FPS games use to make rapid-fire controllers less OP.

Wrist-Flick 180s.

If I could make an analogy (Twisted Metal Edition):
Wrist-Flick 180s (PC Mouse) : Mr Grimm :: Wrist-Flick 180s (FragFX) : Sweettooth

But like I said, I was rocking a fatty with a heavy weapon… so that could explain a lot of it.

SinDonor,

Been playing Brink the last 3 days almost exclusively with the FragFX… been getting much better results with practice/experience. I have learned how to better wrist-flick for those panic 180s after a light enemy flashes past.

~Target acquisition is a little easier with the FragFX than with the controller.
~Target tracking is WAY easier.

Just make sure and turn aim assist off (if you even have it on in the first place)… as it completely screws with targetting (far moreso than it does with the analog stick of a normal controller).

I’m really tempted to get a newer version, one that’s wireless (again, I currently have the USB wired version). Sure, not having to charge the thing is nice, but sometimes the cords can be… frustrating.

(SinDonor) #51

Hmm, thanks for the update. I may have to check it out. I just got the Razer Onza Tourney controller and it’s great, but I still suck at aiming using only my thumbs.

>Needing to pay 150+ just to be on par with pc players with 15 dollar mouses

(MrFoxer) #53

Computer mice cost a lot more than that, anyways, not worth it.

(R_Shackelford) #54

I’m a more interested in the Eagle Eye, which is only $60. Cheaper than my VX Revolution mouse.

It’s not about being “on par” with PC gamers. I grew up playing FPS games on my PC in the early 90s, so I just never really grasped the feel for console FPS games. If using one of these mouse controllers will improve my game on the console, I’ll be less frustrated when I play due to my horrible aim using a controller. That’s worth the money for me.

OR, I can spend $1500 on a powerful gaming pc setup to achieve a similar level of gaming enjoyment.

I’m in the same boat. I grew up playing shooters on PC and became very accustomed to how a m/kb control works. Even after many years playing on console, I still cannot call myself a pro with the controller, knowing that if I were to play the same game with a m/kb, I would do far better.

It is very frustrating knowing that the only thing holding you back from your full potential, is the control device you are using.
