Anyone else think the DE .50 is a really bad pistol?

My brother happens to like it, but I truly think it’s an awful handgun.

I was once firing constantly into an Arty standing 7ft away with the DE .50 whilst a medic on his team was able to revive him not just once but TWICE while I unloaded clip after clip to no avail.

I doubt anyone else has had this happen to them, but even outside of this extreme scenario I generally find the DE .50 to be the least effective handgun I use. Does anyone else feel this way?

I don’t really know. A majority of the time, I’m always on my primary so I don’t really feel opinionated about secondaries.

Where’s the 'could be improved" button

(ProfPlump) #4

It’s perfectly good. You just have to pay attention to its spread and ADS/space your shots when appropriate.

I’d still pick the M9 over it though.

(Eox) #5

Still a better pick than Caulden, and actually a surprisingly decent secondary.

I don’t hate it per se, but I believe that it (along with the heavy pistols in general) should be buffed a bit to match the reliability of the semi-autos.

I’ll compare the DE .50 to the Selbstadt for reference. It does 20 damage in 7 shots while the Selbstadt does 15 damage in 12 shots. That’s 140 compared to 180. Of course, the DE .50 has a different playstyle, it still feels inferior. I would like it to have a better firing noise.

It have sound and handling like a b1tch, so I tend to avoid it completely.

Only the Smjüth & Whetsman and Simeon are good. All others are crap and maybe only used to finish someone off when I have the time and space. The S&W and Simeon can be used when primary ammo is gone or instead of reloading primary.

Its better than the Caulden

The Magnums are terrible as primaries, and are only useful in EXTREMELY close quarters against larger mercs (because smaller mercs = smaller targets). This is because of the terrible spread and terrible ADS vision while spam firing (which, unless you want to essentially half the DPS of the magnum, you have to spam fire). However, this is a pointless advantage because larger mercs are easy to retreat from, reload your primary, and engage with that rather than with your magnum. For EVERY situation I would rather pick an M9 over ANY of the pistols, including the magnums and Deagle.

(Szakalot) #11

its fine, spacing your shots makes it one of the most accurate pistols, while you can also spam it up in closequarters

(Dawnlazy) #12

The spread on that thing feels really inconsistent, and the mag efficiency sucks too. At least it’s got reasonably low recoil.

(scavazzi4) #13

The thing i hate more about it is the hipfiring animation which very annoying.
Spacing shots kinda works, too bad i go into panic mode every time my primary empties.

I think she could use a little more power…

(watsyurdeal) #15

Learn how to aim for headshots with good control and you’ll do fine.

(CCP115) #16

It sounds dumb, and it’s a secondary, why are people even using this extensively?

Plus it does 20 dmg and 40 on a HS if my memory serves right, which is actually a lot of damage.

I love the perfect slope of the poll responses, lol :3

Almost all pistols are unbelievably bad. They either have weak DPS or they are unreliable as fuck.

(ProfPlump) #19

Are you suggesting that the pistols should be as strong as the primaries?? Because that would be stupid as fuck. The whole point of pistols is to be your backup weapon for when you don’t have time to reload your primary, or when you have no primary ammo left whatsoever. If the pistols were made to EQUAL the strength of the primaries, then it would throw that off balance, as well as making Fire Support mercs even less important, since there’d be no need to give anyone ammo.

And you think that the pistols have weak DPS? Not really… The De. 50 has a DPS of 120, which is the same as the Blishlok (120) and almost the same as the Hochfir (122). The M9 and Selbstadt, the most reliable (in my opinion), are at 113 but have much more accuracy, much more consistency due to higher firerate, and larger magazines.

The only pistols that are truly underpowered are the magnums, which are still absolute beasts in extreme close quarters where the spread on your gun is less important. Having a DPS of 135 on your SECONDARY is massive, it’s just a pity that you have to sacrifice your firerate so drastically if you want to take accurate shots at medium range, because that completely wastes the only advantage that the magnums have - their DPS.

So no, not “almost all pistols are unbelievably bad”, it’s just the magnums that are terrible. The Caulden could use a small accuracy buff though.

I mean, I don’t expect players to be able to use pistols in an enjoyable way. The fact that someone was able to down a Skyhammer twice with the DE .50 is a miracle.

Also, the Blishlock is the worst Operative weapon in the game for its DPS, but it’s the most consistent of all SMGs at a distance if the recoil is managed well. Not to mention the fact that the DE .50 has to have more firerate than the Blishlock in order to have the same DPS.
