anyone else rockin the Heavy?

The heavy is a liability on PC. AzK is correct to bring up the differences in platforms and if the truth hurts so be it. I tried to make the heavy work on PC and it’s hopeless.
The heavy MGs are inaccurate even crouched and iron sighted unless you reduce bursts to literally one shot. The kickback shooting from the hip is so detrimental to accurate close range aim you are actually spraying and praying by design. Their one big advantage is the huge clip. However, hoping that the enemy runs out of bullets trying to take down your marginally more robust HP body is not exactly a winning strategy. The minigun is even worse because you have the terrible spread of the heavy MGs with added difficulty of spin-up time. I can tell you that as a light body type I find it incredibly easy to kill heavies using miniguns because they simply cannot get their guns to target headshots fast enough and if they prespin they are going to get knocked down with a grenade every time.
I tried to use the AGL and found it pretty ineffective in most situations. Unless there is some unlockable feature where the grenades can be made to detonate on impact, the bouncing grenades are pretty easy to avoid. It’s probably useful against the maintenance bot and other heavies. But why carry it when you can unload one clip from the heavy MG on the bot and stop it and not be stuck with an otherwise ineffectual spam gun?
The one weapon I liked as a heavy was the semi-auto shotgun with the 8 round mag. That gun really is beast mode but you have to be close to make it work. Given the general lack of mobility it’s hard to close in on the enemy and really put it to good use. You are totally screwed in the open areas at medium range+.
Trying to to use them as a “human turret” on defense will leave you helpless to grenades from faster, flanking enemies once your position is known. To me the real downside is that the heavy is unable to use what the game is basically designed around: the amazing SMART system and the maps’ alternate routes which are like playgrounds for the light body type. In a game all about running, vaulting and shooting from impossible angles, the heavy is a lump. The fat kid waiting for recess to end while the other kids are on the jungle gym.

I agree with this horribly paced post. At least for now, I allow for the possibility that I just don’t ‘get’ the heavy yet.

Still there’s also that gnawing feeling that Brink indeed is balanced across the board with the controller as the baseline without accounting for the advantage a M+KB setup offers to light body types.

Those all sound like good reasons to not use a heavy on p.c except that you make it sound as though you are required to use heavy weapons as a heavy, which isn’t true at all. I personally prefer an lmg and AR combo

(IG THOMBOW) #24

I love the EZ-Nade. I run the Euston AR as primary but whenever I see an opportunity I spam those farts like nobody’s business!

(Kill5Joy) #25

I personally don’t like the EZ-Nade,but it may have just been the situtation that I used it in

(IG THOMBOW) #26

You wanna use it in hallways and corners. So cluster****s basically.

Eh, it’s more fun than functional.

(Steinernein) #27

Travel with teammates or have a dedicated healer perhaps? Engineer / Heavy Soldier / Medic perhaps?

yeah and that’s the point of video games in the first place so I think I might go set up a class with it. And that Splash damage is how a forum is supposed to work lol. Oh and heres a tapir :stroggtapir:

(Kill5Joy) #29

what do you mean?

(Jak Swift) #30

My other characters a heavy soilder with the gattling gun you get from the 2* Fort challenge, its so bad ass lol, i have my light medic buddy runnin in and out healing me

(IG THOMBOW) #31

I use EZ-Nade with Euston AR (with GL of course). Then soldier with all the abilities for grenades and Scavenger for spam spammy spam spam.

(Kill5Joy) #32

Yeah the minigun is pretty kick ass as long as you know how to use it. The problem is I don’t lol,i watched my friend play with it and he raped, but it must be an acquired talent

I understand that one of the other benefits of using a heavy is the formidable alternate weapon options. The main reason I focus on the heavy weapons being so awful is that it’s an entire class of weapons that are almost pointless and supposedly the selling point of using a heavy in the first place. If you are going to be so outclassed by the mobility of the light body wouldn’t it be fair to have the heavy weapons be formidable? I don’t think they are a good trade off considering how constantly useful the light body mobility is. Part of my problem with the heavy, I suppose, is i come from playing ETQW pretty hardcore. In that game the heavy weapons are a real imposing force in the right situations. In Brink they seem like decorations to sell the concept of three body types. I will just have to bear in mind the game was balanced for console controllers and make peace with it. I really wanted the heavy to be the same kind of infantry tank like the soldier with heavy weapon was in ETQW and that is obviously not the case.

Well you’re not doing it for the health difference, there’s no way that extra hp makes up for the lack of movement.

Right now I suspect that the gameplay hasn’t been tested properly for the pc. There’s no way the balance scale from controler to M+KB one on one. PC controls allow a player to get far more value out of a light body type than a gamepad does while the the heavy bodytype makes no such transition.

(Kill5Joy) #35

actually with health buffs I find it really helpful. And another thing that is kind f a selling point for me is that I have only used the light one or twice and since I havnt really experienced freedom of movement a ton I dnt miss it. You can’t miss what you never had.

(tokamak) #36

Oh yeah I forgot, the heavy is the only body type that can receive health buffs. My bad.

Now I’m not exactly sure how the health buffs relate to the basic health pool of the body. In my eyes each buff gives a static increase in hp and doesn’t scale with the bodytype. If this is true then light and medium bodytype actually benefit more from health buffs as they receive a relatively larger health increase compared to the heavy.

I could be wrong though, maybe the buffs scale accordingly, but that only means that the buffs are equally beneficial rather than a distinct advantage to the heavy.

(Kill5Joy) #37

can’t tell if your being sarcastic or not,but it feels good to me, I prefer it,and I find it to be more fun and that’s what matters

(Kill5Joy) #38

I think it’s a static increase for everyone but it seems more effective on a heavy

(tokamak) #39

Then its less effective on a heavy. They receive a lower percentage increase.

(Kill5Joy) #40

what I ment is that they all get the same amount of health boosted as each other srry
