Anyone else having trouble recording this game?

(gloomyStylist) #1

So I was recording using Bandicam and for the first time ever with this program, it split up the video file. I found it odd and was looking at the Bandicam settings to see why this was as it never did that before. Then I tried recording another game for about the same time, it DID NOT split up the video files. I thought that was odd.

Then I realized it split up Dirty Bomb whenever the game showed its loading screen. So during the bigger transitions, like after selecting a server and getting into a game, but before actually starting the game, there’s a loading screen. Or after a game, when you leave the server, but before you get to the main menu, there’s a loading screen. At these times, the video split. I found it kind of interesting.

Has anyone tried with the same or other recording software and found anything similar?

I’ve used Fraps and nVidia’s Shadowplay and I haven’t had any similar problems.

The loading screen might cause the game to lose focus for a second which triggers Bandicam to stop recording, then immediately start again because the game has focus and you have hit record. Perhaps try other software.

are you using multiple displays?

Also XIGNCODE likes to fuck with your recording software.

Yeah, I have 2 monitors. One that I almost exclusively use to watch the simpsons on and my regular monitor. Both are connected to the computer though.

I’ve used Shadowplay and OBS (both in software recording mode and Shadowplay). Both work just fine. OBS is great for recording and it’s simple…plus it’s completely free. It’s not just for streaming. You can record local files as well.

I prefer Dxtory. Dxtory has an awesome codec called the Lagarith Lossless Codec. It makes the file sizes much smaller which means less is written to the disc. I can record at a higher quality with less lag because of it. It’s paid though.

I am not a spokesperson for Dxtory.

I like DXtory as well. Although I prefer using the h.264 codec. I find it compresses better than Lagarith, although they’re pretty close.

My problem with DXtory is that it always separates the audio sources into multiple files. So you HAVE to use a video editor to combine them. Sometimes I’m lazy and just want to record gameplay and don’t want to go through the hassle or rendering everything in Adobe Premier. So I prefer using a program that combines the two audio sources in with the video file.

Also, DXtory creates variable framerates videos. So you have to use Handbrake to convert the files into a constant framerate file. Then after it creates the new file, you throw that into a video editor to mix in the audio sources.

Like, I like DXtory, but it’s just such a huge hassle to use it.

Also, I can use the Lagarith codec in Bandicam (although again, I prefer using the h.264 codec).

omg, OBS is ALMOST perfect except that it has no recording indicator. It’s so frustrating. I need an indicator to tell me I’m recording, without it, I just get too paranoid.

Just buy a second monitor. Then you can watch things on your other screen why you play OR see that you’re recording. That’s how I roll

That’s odd. I’ve never had those problems. I vaguely remember the second one being a toggle-able option though.

Wait, are you able to combine 2 audio sources with the video in DXtory? Because I’ve tried so hard to figure out how to do that and just figured that DXtory couldn’t do it.

I know it can do 1 audio combined with 1 video. So you can get either the videogame sound or the audio from the mic, but not both.

Lol, hell yeah.

I do have a second monitor (bought it at a thrift store for $10). I never even thought about that. Yeah, that could work.

Ok guys, something weird happened.

I gave Shadowplay a go, and guess what happened, it SPLIT UP THE VIDEOS again.

There’s something going on with how the game runs on my PC.

Shadowplay will split the videos once they hit 4gb on Windows 7 and below. Why? Because Nvidia are lazy.

I… did not know that.

Why the hell did people suggest Shadowplay then if my complaint was THE VIDEO WAS SPLITTING UP?

-_-

Sigh, I might have to use DXtory, but that doesn’t really solve my problem either since I’d still have to throw that into a video editor to mix in the audio sources. However, DXtory is the best and if I HAVE to use a video editor then I might as well use DXtory.

(Ghosthree3) #18

If the video is being split perfectly there’s really no issue, there’s a few programs out there that can seamlessly sew them together into one file.

Dxtory isn’t editing software, it’s recording software. Pretty good recording software at that.

Oh, I wrote that sentence improperly. I know what DXtory is.

What I meant is that if I HAVE to edit my videos, I might as well record with DXtory because it’s so much better than all the others.

But I’d prefer to not edit if I can help it even if it means I don’t use DXtory as a recording software.

I can’t seem to get the AMD Gaming Evolved program working with DB yet although it says it’s enabled for it. That said, I haven’t spent much time trying to fix it.
