Any way to turn off automatic smart on PC?

(system) #1

I hate it when it slides me just because I looked at the floor funny or mantle over some object I barely bump into. Just make an option to put it on another key and let running be running.

I don’t find it hard at all to press jump when I want to climb/mantle, or duck to slide somewhere.

Don’t hold down shift?? My SMART is definitely not on by default…

(adrian783) #3

running is toggled i believe, meaning that you only have to press shift once to start running, while smart is hold shift. hope that fixes ur problems.

(system) #4

I don’t want toggle to run, I want smart on a different key.
I’m not going to suddenly change the way I played for 15 years, just because someone decided to put 10 actions on the same key to please idiots on consoles.

(darthmob) #5

Did you have a look at the controls whether you can map a sprint button? There has to be one, it has always been said that SMART is optional.

(Bullveyr) #6

I’m on Eteks’ side on this.

+1

(system) #7

I don’t think there is a SMART button, they said sprint doubles as SMART, but I’ll have a looksie.

(McAfee) #8

These may help. Think fov.

pm_smart_viewArc (default 30)
pm_smart_viewArcAir (default 70)

(system) #9

Will give those a try, thanks.

I was like… what does he mean?
I mapped sprint to a key and sliding I do with sprint+crouch keys.
I didn’t even know you could do both tapping/holding the smart button :o
That’s ok though, I rather do it myself

??? Errr what?

(sirius89) #12

And i HATE that.

Why can’t i just run/use SMART when i hold down shift and stop running/usingSMART when i stop pushing it. >.<
Like the running in BF2 for instance.push shift->run,stop pushing shift->stop run.

Not that it’s gamebreaking or something there are many other thigns that are but it’s kinda annoying or i have to get used to it once the game runs perfect.

You can, just uncheck toggle sprint, this is about having two actions on the same key.

(Senyin) #15

I mean I never have this problem you mentioned, unwanted smarting.

(system) #16

Well, it only happens when you least expect it, the least favorable moment that is.

(fearlessfox) #17

I’m sorry it pains you, but I’d like to say two things:

Console players didn’t choose not to have keyboard and mouse support from their devs (and not everyoen can afford a gaming PC).

If you can’t learn to adapt to this /tiny/ little change then you’re obviously not a very good gamer.

And pandering to some idiot who equates 2 and 10 and can’t avoid solid objects is better? Unless you press jump, SMART only kicks in on map collision. Avoid collision. Solved.

(.Chris.) #19

I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve performed a slide instead of crouching because I held onto shift for a fraction too long. It’s super annoying when you approach a corner you first want to crouch and lean around to see the enemy rather than going in blind all guns blazing. I guess it’s something you need to get used to though.

(Kalbuth) #20

Nope, not that simple. Sometimes, you want to use SMART to get over one object, and the animation throws you 30 cm too far after the obstacle right into another where SMART takes over AGAIN, when you didn’t, really didn’t want to jump over that fence right down the stairs on the other side. No, really, the ennemy was upstairs, you know, and you are now downstairs… :frowning:
