Any noticible differences between ET and RTCW?

(signofzeta) #1

Audio differences:

Knife, Colt, Luger, MP40, Thompson K43/Mauser, FG42, and Grenades (both) firing sounds.

Voice Chats

Graphical differences:

RTCW has a reddish brown hue to it, while ET has a blueish grey hue to it.

RTCW weapon models are pointed forward in relation to the player POV, while the ET weapon models are pointed towards the crosshairs at the center of the screen, in a way so that the gun is slanted.

Um, hud is different. DUH!!!

Character models are different.

Ammo and medpacks are different.

MP40 and Thompson are more shiny in ET than in RTCW.

Gameplay differences:

I don’t know any, other than new weapons and new class, but that is it.

I want you to add to the list, because I really want to know all the differences between RTCW and ET. I ran both games side by side using windowed mode on the same computer, and that is all I could list.

Gameplay:
RTCW hasn’t XP.

Nt sure about the health of the medic.
In W:ET each medic up to 4 medics adds extra health to teammembers.

Edit:

Gameplay:
No escortable vehicles in RTCW.

[edit2]
Not sure about constructebles.
Mo command posts and their benefits for sure.

the complet ui is different. the speed its little other from the game.

And the biggest different:

Et is better as rtcw :stuck_out_tongue:

(Nail) #4

RTCW has a different R.O.F.

(signofzeta) #5

are there any other ones that you wouldn’t have noticed unless you ran RTCW and ET side by side? I wouldn’t have noticed that RTCW had a reddish brown hue, while ET had a bluish gray hue if I hadn’t run the games side by side.

(Nail) #6

RTCW has zombies and Übersoldat and of course, single player and console ports

I may be biased, cause RTCW was my first real MP game… (i played ET and RTCW pretty much every day since… ) i think RTCW had a cleaner/better MP concept - simple is often better. Actually i think RTCW is a masterpiece…really good concept, and executed really well in all aspects…

Also the competition mod team OSP did a very good job keeping a very clean mod, wich imo was alsop very succesfull (etpro was also inspired from this mod)

ET: Antilag was introduced in ET , and changed the feel of shooting, and getting hit.
Personally i’d prefer to live without antilag, and play on nearby low ping servers instead… better feel of game.

Ultimately someone would “port” a real RTCW mod for ET

concider this, the MP Demo of RTCW wich was released in 2002 is STILL being played… the demo consist only 2 maps… wich of the one being played is “beach” (as you probby know also as ported ET version)
There has been a solid clanbase, and tournaments for several years… and… this was just the demo of the game… one map… that’s how great RTCW is!

The way I see it is similar to Age of Empires (AoE) series. RTCW is this initial amazing game that every Wolf fan loves, just like AoE 1. Then they took the amazing game and made it even better (ET, AoE2).

And then, after great success they wanted to get it even better again but the result was just too different for me to like it (ETQW, AoE3).

Hey ETQW fans stop right there, it’s just my opinion, I totally believe that you love it.

Was there an AoE4 that sucked major donkey balls?

(lamps) #10

Nope, they stopped the series at AoE3.

(signofzeta) #11

Considering you made an analogy between RTCW ET ETQW with AoE1 AoE2 AoE3, would you think that AoE4 will suck donkey balls if it was ever made?

(Crytiqal) #12

no ammo and health cabinets in RtCW

(diaboliksmart) #13

u can not lie on the floor in RTCW (or I did not find how …)

(lamps) #14

I think it would probably suck, yes.

(signofzeta) #15

Bah, I should have renamed the thread to “any noticeable differences only when you run RTCW and ET side by side”

Because the differences I see are obvious ones, rather than the minute ones like the angle of the weapon models in each game.

(dutchmeat) #16

You can’t really compare the two visually, ET’s lighting system, and other graphical systems has improved, aswell as shadows, and polycount.

I’m a ‘oldschool’ RTCW player myself (since RTCWDemo Test 2, 8 years ago), and as strange as it may seem, I still prefer RTCW over ET.

Still, my question would be, why on earth do you want to know this ?

(lamps) #17

Well, excuse us if our answers didn’t meet your expectations.

(michel1more) #18

Et is just modified more than RTCW. Dunno about the game play issue though!!!

without technical analysis, Rtcw has a different ROF, movement and different damages from weapons as well as smooth gameplay. Also, You need to teamwork more on Rtcw because of the maps and stuff.
I consider Rtcw > Etwolf
