Any love for some bots?

ATTN! I do NOT want bots for online competitive mode!!! Just getting that out of the way before the lot of you have a mass-conniption.

Is it possible to import the AI Bots from Brink without too much time wasted configuring (teaching) them all what to do each level in DB? I’d love to be able to solo or maybe co-op with some friends vs the Brink Hard AI bots while playing DB offline or in a private co-op match.

Bots won’t be as “fun” as playing humans, but when I need a break from getting my ass kicked by 13 year old kids on Red Bull, a nice interlude versus some Easy/Medium/Hard bots can quell the rage away. I like to pwn some bots in Black Ops 2 sometimes instead of playing the kiddies. Also, I just DLed the “Guardians of Middle-earth” MOBA on XBL and that game has a co-op vs bots mode as well.

So, with that being said, any possibility we could get an offline/private/co-op mode with AI Bots as teammates and/or enemies?

I feel that bots will defeat the entire purpose of F2P play, a model oriented around having as many real players online as possible.

(SinDonor) #3

Then charge $5 for it.

Nothing more annoying than scanning a server list and just about every game you join is full of bots. I’d be happy if they were left out.

I’d say bots can have a purpose especially considering there are other modes in DB that SD games haven’t had previously. I hope we see them and by that I mean I hope they are made to look totally different to other players, given the location I’d think it’s a high probability that we’d have autonomous and semi-autonomous robots in the areas.

Do I want bots billed as a single player mode? No
Do I want bots used to fill gaps on servers? Optional and likely dependant on game mode
Do I want a bots vs human co-op mode similar to L4D campaign/survival and Killing Floor where you have to complete objectives while fighing of a range of bots? Hell YES!

Uh, that’s why I said not online/competitive. Any games with bots in them wont show up in the server list. Just for offline mode or if a clan wants to train in a private match. It’s just bonus cake.

I am not a big fan of online-only always competitive games. Sometimes, I like to play a game for fun without having to worry about some mega nerd kids who play 8 hours a day from kicking my rump with 360 no scope headshots. Getting pwned all the time sucks. I am too old for this crap. I play online in Halo 4, BlOps2, Brink, etc, and usually have fun. But also I get destroyed on a regular basis. Especially after a long day at work when my brain is burned out. On those days, I like to play against the AI, either in campaign mode or in some bot matches.

If DB is only going to be an online only competitive shooter, I’ll probably play for a bit then get burned out from having my ass handed to me by younger kids who can afford to play for 40+ hours a week while sucking down caffeinated taurine beverages

That’s why a guy like me wants an offline bot mode. Charge me $5 for it. Call it “Training academy” or something, I don’t care.

On a side note, I really enjoyed the bots and the campaign mode of Brink. They were some of the smartest AI bots I’ve ever played against at the time.

(SockDog) #8

@SinDonor

This is why I think SD should invest in some Co-OP only modes. It’s a great change of pace because you’re only competing against AI and at a reasonably defined level, the challenge is predictable and the human interaction is exclusively cooperative. Playing DB after quite some time with L4D/2 I can’t help but feel those familiar rage quit annoyances rising to the surface.

(iwound) #9

i would like to see bots in the future after a possible sdk to use as test subjects.
if they were self taught. would be useful.

(DarkangelUK) #10

How dare you point out my lack of reading comprehension! Yeah, if it’s left out of the online stuff and can be used solo or for some fancy coop modes then sure.

(Dormamu) #11

On Insane mode (was not released) you would not be able to compete against them, ever :D. Yet, i always wanted to meat those insane killing machines bots on Brink.

(GlobalWar) #12

The only bots I like are the zombi hordes from L4D.

(Breo) #13

No problem for coop and singleplayer but imo the worst idea when you put them into a multiplayer.

(zenstar) #14

Didn’t etqw have bots for offline practice too? I remember liking that to get used to maps without burdening anyone with my lack of map knowledge.

Would also like a mutant horde mode with waves of stupid bots vs players.

So +1 from me.

EDIT: just to be clear: I don’t want “filler” bots online. If it’s a vs match then it should be all people. If there aren’t enough people online then there’s an isue with the game that bots won’t fix.

(Dthy) #15

I’d like offline with bots just so I could play when I’m not at home…

(tokamak) #16

Absolutely. Bots kill communities on online servers and when available purely offline then they provide an incentive not to go online.

“I’m afraid of the big bad multiplayer” is an outdated sentiment. Multiplayer is broadly accepted and embraced and people who truly hate it have far better offline experiences available to them than DB could ever bring them.

(tangoliber) #17

I like botmatches, so I’m fine with them being available for a practice mode. I enjoy watching the bots do their thing in Brink…it’s pretty amazing what they can do, even though there is no AI advanced enough yet to play objective based FPS really well.

(rookie1) #18

Bots are good for praticing and discovering the maps
Bots can be use for the wait that the server get filled, they been replace with real players as they join
If we dont like Bots then we go to a server where there is no bots and wait …thats all

(tokamak) #19

Brink had nice bots and ETQW also did a very good job. However, it doesn’t matter how good they are, they can pass the Turing test for all I care, bots spoil any multiplayer oriented game.

(SinDonor) #20

I agree. My very first statement up top said this. I just want bots for an offline or co-op mode. Like a few have mentioned in here: a co-op mode like L4D or filler training bots or a horde mode, etc.

If an official server is up for competitive play, then no bots allowed. Of course, once people start modding and map making, why not have some programmable bots running around to shoot?
