Antilag still has a bad reputation

I was just playing on a public server, and a member of a clan, who shall remain nameless, came on and began voting to turn antilag off. He maintained that antilag causes everyone to lag the same amount as the worst lagger. I told him this was, of course, wrong, and that he should lookup how antilag really works before bad-mouthing it.
In an arrogant rage he began to call me names (noob, please, I’ve been playing for months), complains at me for being 56ker, and continue to try voting. I tried to reason with him to no avail.

What I understand is that antilag works by calculating a hit based on what the client saw, not the server. Please tell me that I’m not mistaken. I find it sad that antilag has such a bad rap with people who really ought to know better.

That’s pretty much correct. Take a look at the unlagged FAQ, as just about everything there applies to ET/RTCW’s antilag. You can even try throwing the URL at people like the one you ran into, but chances are good that they’ll prefer to remain ignorant. :frowning:

You’d have to jump in the Way Back Machine to find a game where high ping players caused everyone else to lag. You could always reply with my favorite:

“You, sir, are a f*cking idiot.”

I’ve been away from the old ET… and well everything else technology based really and I loaded it up the other night to find if my Omega Cat 4.1 thingies would work and found next to fuck all anti lag servers left. It’s quite sad as I used to like to play on yankie servers and not give a shit about a ping of 180 (cali) or 140 (east coast), so now the limited number of servers left nowadays are even more limited to a couple of low ping servers where I can play without getting my arse handed to me on a plate by a bunch of you useless wankers like all of you lot on this forum :smiley: :clap: :banana: :smiley:

Try using a better server.

IMHO, any good server admin would disallow the option of voting antilag off - I don’t even know why clients can vote on that…

Antilag is a life-saver for me, and I never play on a server without it. Of course, I don’t see how that would affect anyone’s opinion of AntiLag in anyway whatsoever, but I just had to mention that. Now they need to find a way to do something about all of those “connection inturrupted” messages I get :disgust:

Although technically a good thing, I don’t like anti-lag too much, just because I’m used to play without it. The game just feels different with anti-lag. I think that’s the reason for many people too who play Q3-based games for a long time.
