Anti-cheat as a Service

(ailmanki) #1

So why would I want to pay for Anti-cheat?

I would pay for it as a server admin, but not as a player. So that I can submit ids of players I find suspicious, and then I get a dedicated staff looking at him.
Like having a volume of players I can submit each month… or something like that. Maybe also based on how many positives my submissions yielded.

And second reason is, people pay to be able to cheat. So there is money for developing new cheats, but where does the money for anticheat come from?

Maybe this is all wrong, but looking at the past games. This stuff has not worked well in any game.

edit: it exists already… lol. http://play.esea.net/

+1 for that

???

Never ever post links to cheat sites in a forum! Also don’t name them!

(Bangtastic) #4

i would pay as much as i can for such an anti cheat system!

(Rex) #5
why they are already really popular, and this is just a closed forum not public

everyone who played once lil bit comp must know about this lol

it is just the truth! when ppl dont want to face it, well then… its just top search results on google lol^^
It’s not as closed as you might think. You are right that some comp players know them anyway, but no need to advertise here.

(ailmanki) #6

If it leaves only questions, then I guess I better leave… lol.

(Rex) #7

No,no wasn’t meant like this!
I just miss the point of this thread.

Who does need to pay for anti-cheat?? Enlighten me.

(Ruben0s) #8

So cheaters who ruin my game already are going to cost me money as well… Great idea.

(Kendle) #9

I kinda get what ailmanki is saying, SD (or their spin-off Fireteam) provide a range of servers, running an anti-cheat of some kind (presumably with a client-side component that may or may not be incorporated into DB), and you have to pay to play on them. It’s then up to you whether you want to take your chances “out in the wild” playing on 3rd party hosted servers for free, knowing there may be cheaters on them, or pay to play in a closed and theoretically cheat free environment.

I guess it would depend on the size of the player base, enough people would have to want to pay to play to be viable both from SD’s perspective as well as the players.

(Ruben0s) #10

What’s next? Splashdamages releasing cheats to stimulate their own income. No thanks, I would donate for an solid anti-cheat, but than it should be avaible for everyone.

(ailmanki) #11

@Rex - I am simply exploring other options to monetize DB.
I would pay for a anticheat for the named reasons.

@Ruben0s - So you want a free service which works… Good luck.

@Kendle - More or less, but it should not be limited to SD’s server only. But to any server which is willing to pay for that service.
Now if we can host servers, then we need that service as well. If only SD can host servers, then thats another story. And another interesting way to monetize DB.

(Ruben0s) #12

It should be the other way around. Splashdamage should battle cheaters with an anti-cheat or they will scare people away, and that costs money.

Your option, paying for an anti cheat, makes cheating more fun. Not only do they destroy the game, but they will cost you money. Cheaters will love it.

Anyway. I think paying for a server is already enough support for the game as a server provider.

(Bangtastic) #13

i cant follow the motivation of cheaters you describing. Things shouldnt be too easy for cheater, there should be still some barriers. some cheaters want just revenge for certain players, or just appreciation, not everyone has “harming” thoughts in their mind.

Also there must be paid attention that no spectator mode glitch can occur^^ to prevent it as it happened in LoL in some “pro” matches^^

EDIT: Keep in mind one of the best anti cheat measures you can have is making a good innovative game, without milking the franchise to death :).^^

(Breo) #14

Why not a report button for everyone? A couple games already have it. I know some players will report everyone who kill them but that won’t work because you can look at how many different players report the same player.

(Bangtastic) #15

Exactly, a reputation system can do some preventional workin some cases

(Dragonji) #16

This would take too much time to ban the cheater. He could make 100s servers empty before he gets globally banned.

(scre4m.) #17

dont feel offended …

but this is the worst idea ever. really. NO. just NO!

(Breo) #18

This should ofc work as a additional service besides PB, VAC or something similar. It’s always the case that cheaters are able to continue to play when those AC don’t catch them especially when there’s no admin on the server.

But I think this probably won’t work because everyone can create new accounts with a F2P game after the ban?

(Mustang) #19

TBH sell it to other game developers, not to server admins.

(ailmanki) #20

Currently there is no game, where the anti-cheat mechanics work as expected. E.G a cheater free environment.

Punkbuster is not succesfull.
VAC is not succesfull.
Quake Live and its own Anti-cheat neither.

Its clear that DB needs to have some sort of free anticheat. This anti-cheat could be full automatic. While the extra system, has human resources.

If you go for a free system, that system will not have the same lifecycle as the game you play. Unless in ten years people are still paying money for new guns in DB … then sure there is money around.
