Another which console thread. Really though... respond.

Pretty simple question… what console you getting Brink on? PC? 360? PS3? I’m going for PC because PC is better than the others.

(DarkangelUK) #2

“Better” is subjective, and this is just bound to insight a flame war. There isn’t even a poll to attract numbers. I’d call you a troll, but I’m sure your intentions were fine… better wording next time dude… better wording.

(Linsolv) #3

No, I’d say as a console user that PC is “better.” But it’s also “more expensive” and even if you’re not a snot-nosed twerp as many PC users want to think of console users, computers are pricy.

(indirect) #4

I play on both 360 and PC, Darkangel, and no… I disagree. PC is better. However like Linsolv said - easily very much so more pricy. I played from CoD4 (PC and 360) to BO on 360, Gears, Halo, and hundreds of others, yet at the same time have 135 games on my Steam account. PC is better, 360 is more accessible.

In regards to this thread. I’ll be playing Brink on PC.

You can make a fairly good PC for the same price as a 360 or PS3, but you can also do much much more with that PC than just gaming, you have more hard drive space and options to upgrade in the future.

The only real benefit you get from a console is (for the most part) you know that when you buy a game it’s going to work. Between the PS3 and 360 I’d easily go for 360, but of coure PC trumps both of them without the need for any real debate.

(Linsolv) #6

No. You can’t.

I specced out a “fairly good” PC. Somewhere between most places’ listings for mid-range and economy (right around the reccomended specs of Brink actually). It costs, without any labor and buying the cheapest available equivalent parts, $550. That’s not “the same.” That’s double.

(DarkangelUK) #7

The subjective part of my comments counts towards what you view as ‘better’. A lot of people find it better to sit on their couch and play a game on a 50" screen… they find it better to just plonk the disc in and play without the need to install… without the need to upgrade to be sure you can run the game, or rely on creating a graphics config to make it smooth. “Better” is always subjective… your personal preference is irrelevant and proves my point.

You can’t even come CLOSE to making a decent PC for 299.

A decent processor costs 299. You can get a BARGAIN processor for 99. You can then get a BARGAIN GPU for 99 (which won’t run Brink at max.) You can then get a BARGAIN case for 49.99. You can then get a BARGAIN dual channel RAM set up at 4GB for about 69.99. You can then get a BARGAIN HDD for 49.99, that is around 500GB. You can get a BARGAIN Motherboard for about 49.99 as well. Finish that off with a BARGAIN 15’’ monitor (49.99) BARGAIN Dell keyboard (9.99) BARGAIN Logitech mouse (19.99). That’s not including your 16.99 12x DVD R/W+.

That’s 440 dollars for a computer that runs last years games well, and barely runs next years.

Try again troll.

I gotta admit I have no idea what the market is like atm, but not too long ago (several months) it was entirely possible to (if you did your research) build a PC for the same price as a 360 (that was ~$300AUD) that could run Crysis on at least medium settings. And even if you paid “double” you’d still be building a PC that EASILY outperformed the consoles in regards to gaming and still had all the other multi-use features.

My current build cost me about $1400AUD, a brand new 360 costs about $400AUD, and I can say that this build would make the 360 look like a SNES.

If you can afford it, PC > Consoles, and it’s not even close.
If you can’t afford a PC, playing on a console > not playing at all.

Try again troll.
My god, people use the term troll way too liberally these days. Learn what trolling is instead of just calling everyone who makes a comment that you disagree with or find silly “a troll”. i’m not here to intentionally annoy you, trick you, or otherwise disrupt discussion, therefore I am not a troll. Flaming other users, such as calling them trolls, however IS a form of trolling.

If you make smart purchases you CAN build extremely cheap PC’s that DO perform exceptionally well. Not every PC build has to burn a hole in your pocket. The aprticular instance I speak of was in an Australian PC gaming magazine from several months ago. One of the writers set out to build a PC that could run Crysis for as cheap as possible. He re-used some parts and got some for free (like hard drives) and bought his parts from swap meets and the like. Yeah, in reality building a “decent” PC might be more expensive than a console straight up, sure; but consider that that build would still be FAR more powerful than a console and still be a multipurpose device.

You’d essentially be paying more (not a whole lot more) for a system that performs better, looks better, and does a whole lot more. It’s much like an investment. You get back what you put in.

(indirect) #12

Guarantee you my 5+ years with the Joey D. Fanclub allows me much more liberal use of the term than you. I also guarantee I know what a true troll is.

You JUST called me a troll because you disagreed with me or thought my comment was stupid. Neither falls under trolling. Trolling is about luring/tricking people into stupid conversations or to annoy them (through flaming/insulting) or disrupt discussion (which I might add you’ve done by calling me a troll). If you say you like Green and I say, no I like Red more you call me a troll. It’s not trolling just because you disagreed with me - which is what you just did. If you think you have this sixth sense about trolls well clearly you need to re-think that hypothesis because I wasn’t trolling you.
Yeah you’re right, I should of used the term idiot.
Then you’d be trolling. =)

Plus I already said where I got my statement from. It was the October 2010 issue of PC Powerplay.

Xbox, that’s all I have.

Have my preorder paid off, and already been playing on the 360…so 360!

DoHo, instead of making claims, how about posting some examples of Exceptionally Good PC parts for cheap? Because they’re crazy hard to find.

I choose PS3 over a PC because I don’t have the money to upgrade every 3-4 years and I like using my big screen/big couch to relax and play on. There’s a couple reasons people pick one over the other.

Modders like PCs. I don’t care to mod, or play with modded versions. Some people love this part of a game, and the modder community, to me it’s not a big deal so I don’t care to work with PCs.

Anyone that claims PCs cost less than Consoles is wrong. Period. To keep one up to date to run games at max settings for the next 4-5 years costs a lot more than a one-time investment in a console. Plus most people leave out a good monitor? A great 20-22" HD monitor isn’t cheap is it? Well over 100? Or you could just use the TV you use in your living room for your console? Instant money saver.

PCs have the ability to run games with higher graphics/better frame rates than consoles. Partially to stability and partially due to the pitiful amount of RAM current gen consoles have compared to what PCs offer now. So advantage PC there. No question.

Now hear me out. A strong thing I do like about consoles is that when you buy one, you know that people are making games to work well with your console. That’s something you won’t get with a PC. You won’t get a computer game made to work with your Toshiba Satellite x17b. Or Dell XPS 14. But, you get games “made” for PlayStation 3, “made” for Xbox 360. Companies make them to run on these consoles and do extensive testing on each, yet they’re unable to test on every computer set up. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing for PCs, I’m saying it’s a plus for consoles, having developers make games to run especially well for your current set up. Whether you bought it a month ago, or 3-4 years ago.

There’s arguments for both. There will always be fanboys of one or the other, and both sides have valid points. Even if I had the money for a PC set up, I’ll always play the console on the big screen in the living room, it’s just what I’ve come to be comfortable with and enjoy.

(A.i) #19

I have nothing against consoles apart from console ports, but I, sometimes, find it funny that some people say that pcs are too expensive and they would rather play on console with 50" TV that costs like a pc itself

(RadBrad31) #20

I say that because most people already have a TV they’ve invested good money in to watch cable/movies on. Whether it be for family, or friends, or the gf, most people have a larger living room TV/better quality than they have invested in a monitor for their PC.

EDIT: I lucked out and got a 65" HD Sony TV for 500 bucks from a guy who wanted to buy a projector, but his wife wouldn’t let him til he sold his TV lol. So of course, I can’t get a monitor anywhere close to what I’m going to get with this. Plus, headshots tend to be a bit easier to pull off at range ;). lol
