Another new idea for your next ET-style game... :)

Another idea I had for an ET style game, that I’d be curious to hear people’s opinion about is the following.

Once you’ve died, and are waiting to respawn (or at any time from the limbo menu), players could have the opportunity to add “mark-up” to the global map.

For instance, if you’d seen enemies in a certain area, or a turret, you could click / or drag and drop an icon on to the map at that point. The icon would fade out over the next X seconds (say 15-30 seconds).

Alternatively you could draw a suggested line(s) of attack.

Perhaps as you gain more experience (XP or something) you have access to a greater set of markup tools.

You’d have to avoid the map being spammed…but I don’t think that would be too hard, with ignore-this-person buttons, and through limiting the markup.

Some of the markup could also be included on the in game first-person HUD…

THe idea is to keep people in the game and busy even when they are dead, and to increase the diversity of communication between players, which would hopefully have the effect of increasing strategy, even in pub matches.

What ch’y’all mofos thinks?

Hi, 1st post here… bumped into these forums via Rad Soldiers and found this thread which jumped out at me.

I’ve recently designed and published an app that does exactly this, but using your mobile device as a second screen.
It’s designed for clans or teams, not really public server games, so spamming should not be an issue if you all ‘kind of’ know each other.

I’d love to hear your comments on it! Hope it’s not out of place to post a link here: www.gameplanlive.com

Cheers

Seems cool. But ideally, what I was thinking of would be integrated with the game…

Hi Deems,
Thanks for the reply!
We’re working on something to make it more integrated but obviously actually taking live data from every game will be over complex for the scope of the app, but not beyond the realms of possibility if there was a big demand for specific games.

We are thinking along the lines of an ‘overlay’ you can configure in various ways, that sits over your game on the main screen. It would still be cross-platform, so others can use any device they want and join in the planning! Would that work for you?
