Another Day on the Brink

(TheChuck03) #1

Here is a summary of the matches I stomached today…

Game 1: Standard 3 humans and 13 bots…how fun! (standard)
Game 2: Another match with 4 human and 12 bots…improving!
Game 3: Big Team match with 12…count 'em…12 humans…rubberbanding, lag, game froze.
Game 4: Big Team match with 12 humans again! Lag fest (when I think of lag I know longer think of BFBC2 shortly after launch but Brink) Quit.
Game 4: Big Team match…sorry I just lagged myself, must be contagious.
Game 5: Big Team match…lagarooni. Quit.
Game 6: Same Big Team match I just quit.
Game 7: Again, same big team match I just quit.
Game 8: Old Skool…joined the game just in time to see the Mission Unsuccessful on the screen!
Game 9: Old Skool…had 4v4 but two guys dropped off…very sadly the best game I’ve had in three days…
Game 10: Old Skool…had 4v4 but three guys got disconnected at the same time halfway through the match…proceeded to hold my own (on the brink of fun!)
Game 11: Old Skool…by myself. noone else in the airport terminal thing…pretty lonely. quit.
Game 12: Old Skool…back in the same terminal but got a drink, went potty and came back…two new friends joined…YAY! Game starts and two more friends join! Then one of them can not tell who is the enemy and proceeds to friendly kill every chance he can get…

12 matches; ~2 hours; 1 playable match; finished games with 4 humans; one was a TK.

How is that for stats Brink!?! Let me check the online stat site…oh wait that is not working either. I feel had.

Update (because i enjoy punishment)

Game 13: Old Skool…got in with a minute to spare…unsuccessful.
Game 14: Old Skool…had a 4v4 with a guy or two dropping. But had great teamwork with two dudes. This is now the best game ever on Brink.
Game 15: Old Skool…wha-what!! Another good game with two dudes (who I think are in my fireteam even though there is not indication they are or anything). What game is this!?! I checked it is still Brink.
Game 16: Old Skool…The team strikes again…what is this SMART system! I finally play without tremendous lag, the button response is spot on, the game is running smooth and it is fun. Oh wait…a guy drops and the host migrates and we have to work a little harder to repair the crane missile launcher to win. Oh well…lets play again!
Game 17: Old Skool…For a moment there I forgot I was playing Brink…Now I am reminded when me and my new best friends are alone in a match waiting for some magical human to stumble into this match…never happens…I was literally on the Brink of having actual, live fun.

I will suspend my wish list for stats, lobbies, more human players, bells, whistles, and whores…I just want some smooth running games…maybe beating the high water mark of three that I set tonight.

@KAS: Console - ps3.

Its tough finding people on ps3 but games I get in with real people are amazing

(HeadStrikeRx) #6

You should’ve bought it for PC… but i know this doesn’t solve your problem

If it’s any consolation, the situation on 360 is very similar. The most annoying thing about it is that when you finally get in a game it’s easily one of the best console shooters ever and is so much fun, but in between that you have to sit through the headache of finding an actual match. It’s exacerbated even worse if you want to get into a match with friends, especially in the playlists without bots as you generally have to kick somebody/wait for somebody to leave if you want to change teams. This is especially annoying for me & my friends as we really enjoy the 5v5 Competition playlist :frowning:

I love this game but I’m worried that my friends are growing tired of the lag and the way the matchmaking works right now. I don’t want to play in pub matches by myself :frowning:

(Technician840) #8

Yeah when play online I expect to play real people. I wish there was a no bot filter.

(Brink Lags) #9

The crime is, I think this might be a great game.

Game 18: Old Skool once again! jump a quarter deep in a match with two dudes against four. Helped turn the game around. I hit the Playstation button just to make sure I was still playing Brink.
Game 19: Another solid match. Killed the enemy twice while dropping the case to release the prisoner and then returned to the warden’s office. Holy Shatstorm there is a plot and idea behind this game! I feel as if the lag dookie cloud lifting and now I can see!
Game 20: My whole team bails, leaves me in a 1v2 matchup. But oh did it feel nice when I won! Gladly some pale rider entered at the end while hacking some missile to pull out the match. Another new friend.
-First time ever I have stopped playing without that rectal probe feeling from an awful experience.

Brink was on the Brink of the $31 trade-in to Amazon or the 1000 pts for Goozex today. But alas I will hold on a little while longer. A Business trip and a wedding will pass and it will be Sunday night and hopefully Brink with my new found friends will continue this hot streak.

@Technician: Game modes Old Skool and Competitive do not allow ANY bots. There are no current filters other than that. Problem is Comp takes time to fill and Old Skool is 4v4 only right now.

@xzen: Aren’t you growing tired of the lag and the matchmaking? I’ve literally never strung together two good matches until tonight. Even trying to play Old Skool exclusively. I’m ambivalent about keeping this game myself. Just taking it day by day right now.

@headstriker: I’ve read PC is having some of the same issues as well. Though it is much easier to self-patch and the such if you know what your doing. Myself on the other hand takes solace in the basic computer functions. I still don’t know what the acronym SDK means. Something about making your own maps.

@petenasty: Drop a friend request to my name and play. Teamwork makes the world go round.

This is basically the story of every person who bought the game and won’t bring it back,
because once it gets fixed it will actually be awesome

(TheChuck03) #12

Games have a core mechanic that separates the greatest (aka awesome) like Killzone 2, COD4, BFBC2 that you can play for an entire year and still have fun; from the others (aka not awesome) like COD: Black Ops, Killzone 3, countless other drones that after say 3 months it hits the shelf or gets traded away. You can even sell them to blind, handicapped orphans.

In my useless opinion I agree somewhat and believe Brink’s core mechanics are solid and the game has a high ceiling. But with such major issues at launch, coupled with countless ancillary issues, I find it hard to believe this game will ever reach that and will fall into the pile of countless other drones. There is no promise these fixes will even happen.

Nor does the premise the game provides seem to have long term replayability. You can only escort that guy so many times.

(peteXnasty) #16

Im hoping as time and fixes go on the playerbase will grow

It was a rough launch and it really hurt the console playerbase. Bad. Esp on PS3 with a week of bot fighting.

(xzen) #17

I’m not really growing tired of the matchmaking because when I get in a non-laggy full game it’s an absolute blast and will most likely be my favourite game for quite a while. I do play a lot (but not always) with friends though which probably helps to keep the game more interesting.

(KAS--Will) #18

Juding from Game 13 - 20… your enjoying the game. Welcome to the club.

(Oschino1907) #19

Yeah during peak hours you get into matches with people, like he said often its just 3-4humans match after match and i have been on during off peak hours and spent hours in and out of matches and found ZERO other humans, way to hard to connect with others in this game. After matches with people its always a frantic “players recently met” and spam inviting and getting invited by others because they too are tired of only bots and only way to play with others is to directly invite them, well when the invites actually work…

(blueostrichdos) #20

Blame SD for screwing up so bad that 3/4 of the people that would be playing Brink if it wasn’t a beta release, aren’t anymore. I have little time to play nowadays what with a baby, what time I have I don’t wanna have to spend trying to get into a match with no lag. Sucks but, I had to send this game back.
