another bug (ammo / med packs)...

(shao) #1

haven’t seen this one listed elsewhere, but it’s definately frustrating.

if to players are stood right next to each other, either one is a medic or field op. They drop an ammo / med pack… however they pick it up, not the person it was intended for… obviously, the medic needs to have less than full health, and the FO needs to have less than full ammo, other than that it always does it. different action in rtcw. ;-/

a definite candidate for the impending patch.

Yeah, this bothers me, especially when I haven’t gotten improved resources yet. Picking up your own packs should require using the activate button. Maybe make it a cvar so people who are used to the way it works now don’t get confused.

yeah, the pack throwing may be slightly improved from the test, but it is still MUCH worse than the original RTCW.

I noticed some FO’s who quickly look up at the sky or sideways when dropping ammo packs as they run. This makes the pack fly over their head (or to their side) and land behind them instead of giving it to themselves. Standing still and “exchanging” packs is a sure way to attract a panzer attack or other certain death.

As far as your post, I agree. It IS annoying but also easily avoided if you stay on the move while dispensing health/ammo packs and an added bonus of making yourself and your intended reciepient less likely targets.

As for using the activate button to get a pack, I disagree. This would complicate the intense firefights and result in less people getting the ammo/health that they need. I often leave a med pack or 2 just behind a corner that is defended so that I will have an instant health boost as I retreat for cover to reload. My personal opinion is that having to select the packs rather than just step on them would make this tactic rather clumsy and tend to break my focus.

Anyway, good post, it should be addressed.

I think that if you duck, the pack goes a little farther

agreed, in some situations. But in others it’s quicker to take cover, and stand still when picking up / dispensing packs than to run around trying to make yourself harder to hit. A prime example is for a medic who has just revived someone. If their skill isn’t high enough and their not doing a full revive, it’s easier if behind cover to just drop some backs at the immobile revived player… however, if the medic has any damage he picks them up instead.

I can’t imagine this has been ‘implemented’ to try and make players better players, seems more likely a ‘bug’ to me. However, it also works badly if the player dispensing the packs is near an object. I was in a game yesterday and was in dire need of ammo - i think i was down to 8 pistol rounds only, and no enemy guns to pick up :blah: I found a FO, who was stood just inside a doorway, took a step or two back from him, but although his body was aboit 95% around the structure his players bounding box was not, he nicely dropped 3 ammo packs, all of which were picked up by himself. Again, not something that happened in RTCW.

Maybe i should just be glad you can no longer pickup infinite ammo packs… however you can still pickup guns with ammo in them if you’re full, and it doesn’t take your ammo count any higher, another minor bug that needs addressing.

Definately! it’s hard enough to get the action icon to popup when trying to swap guns at times, let alone all packs… The priority just needs to be set from pack dispenser, so that they pick up packs secondarily to anyone else.

This drives me nuts sometimes. As a med I am trying to give bags to a wounded buddy, with myself being very wounded, and all my bags are being “sucked” into myself. I found out you have to “aim” them up or “Look above” the player you want to give H/A to.

Makes me feel bad sometimes, I run up to a buddy with like 1 health, the red cross icon above his head. So I start chucking out med bags, but instead I am feeding them to myself while he is look at me. Kinda like saying: " Haha I’m healthy and you not." Reminds me of that Edie Murphy skit back in the early eighties with the Ice cream. " I got Ice cream, and you can’t have none… You can’t have none, because you poor…" And then I get shot…

it’s not that big a problem - easy to sort out - just make the pack be thrown out a greater distance - shouldn’t be that hard to code

and yes it does get frustrating at times - E.g. spawning axis onGold Rush
