Annoying thing about Covert Ops

(Mystiqq) #21

Hi

EDIT:
Found this page and noticed that this only on field ops…
so nevermind my comments
http://www.rtcwonline.com/dummies/et-experience.htm

ive got one thing that has been bugging me lately

its the “enemy disquised” tag
imo its too easy to spot enemy covert ops on 3rd round … i think this should be removed…or atleast tweaked someway.
it should make the players ‘skill’ to identify enemy covert ops by checking on him, weapon or just plain odd behavior… not some automatic tag that appear from thin air
the effort that covert ops needs to make to get in without anyone noticing or without your own troops shooting at you is Very hard… and on round 3 its impossible. and with major rank, you dont even have to bother on checking much.“crosshair” a person and it will tell you if he is or isnt a disquised.
is it just me or is there point in this?

cheers

Okay for all of you who want to complain about the CvOps:

  1. I generally have given up stealing uniforms. Why? I run around, kill some wanker, and then I’m spamming (in self-defense) “I’m a covert ops” voice chat (while en route), and I still get greased because everybody has got to shoot you at least once in the body if not the head. How bloody stupid are those people? Very, and it wears thin quick. I gave up telling people “look before you shoot!” :banghead:

  2. I am a sniper too. One game some axis, which lost, said “you did nothing to complete the objective”. Hmm, I had in that round, twenty direct kills, I cannot count how many assists (other weapons have a higher ROF), and had fired 259 hits out of 300 shots, which is an 86% hit rate, at least 200 of them were head shots (signified by the helmet/hat flying off) which is a minimum 40*/80 pts of damage. :skull:

I did nothing? Hmm, nothing except weaken the enemy and make them not want to hang out in any open window or rooftop or space visible to the allies. It is alot cheaper for me (or better yet two of me) to keep the enemy pinned down so FdOps can hand out ammo instead of artillery/airstrikes. Safer too, I am much more discriminatory than that artillery/airstrike.

  1. We are the finders of Land Mines. I will just run into a base every so often for no other purpose, then run out if possible (since I do not have a uniform). I will also go around the map pop up the binoculars and find them, which is safer but misses some areas they plant.

  2. When people are discriminatory in their fire I will again start stealing uniforms. It makes little sense for me to be tk’d repeatedly. How am I helping you then? :stuck_out_tongue:

*=Medics on Adrenaline only take half damage, which is 40pts for helmeted head shot. :banghead:

I’ll admit I’ve complained at CO’s and Soldiers before when half the team is whining about having no medics/field ops (Why even pick Panzerfaust if you dont’ see any field ops? thats just insane) because honestly if you are on Axis and we have no Field Ops or we are taking heavy casualties then having 3 CO’s running around trying to be Solid Snake then yeah they need to be a more useful class. Sometimes we have to sacrifice our preferred playing style to reinforce the team, thats just life. As for sniping, with the warping and all I hardly see anyone be a successful sniper, good that someone has overcome it.

Let me just say that Saint of Killer’s description of covertOps as “…then having 3 CO’s running around trying to be Solid Snake…” is quite amusing.

That being said… Inglix made some very good points.

I think that many of the covertOps obsess with stealing uniforms like it their only purpose. Early on, stealing a uniform can help sneak an engie into the depot for the allies. But later on this is limited in how effective it can be. But you can still sneak in and use the satchel charges to blow the gates so the engie doesn’t have to plant and wait to get it open. Spotting mines is crucial but often forgotten. If you steal a uniform and get inside the depot you can spot the mines that are normally out of sight from the allied side. The axis typically doesn’t bother to move mines if they aren’t tripped so spot those rear ones early and your engies can avoid them.

Sniping is valuable - but so many of the covertOps that take to sniping don’t bother to spot mines. They just can’t wait to see the enemy wearing nothing but underoos! Perverts, I tell you - perverts!

I 2 have seen 2 many coverts not spotting mines and not using there satchel to destroy secondery objectives. This annoys me as I play mostly eng these days and when i see an ops looking at the gate not doing anything gets me quite annoyed, even more so when i tell them to blow the gates with a bind i made :frowning:

I guess dressing up in other ppls clothes is more to there liking.

But there are a few good ops out there who do a great job and to those ppl i say thx.

You speak for yourself and many others. Only joking

I am an ok sniper.

I hope they bring back one shot kills. Lower the points if necessary. Then people will fear open space even more, and counter-sniping will be even more essential. There is nothing more exhilarating than a full on sniper battle between two players. The winner of which will control the open space on the map.

If splash damage could work it, I would like to see a “disguise skill” or some such. You know so that when FdOps want to call down artillery they have to find you first.

Here is some military aphorisms

For all the close combat people:
It takes 23 muscles to frown but only 6 to pull the pin out of a grenade.

For all the snipers:
I am a sniper…
A loner…
I am not a part of the world…
But merely observe it through my crosshair…
I live by the shadows and die by the shadows…
I am always distant from everything else…
I am fearful by strength…
Invincible by distance…
Being a sniper is the worst thing to be…
Only hell can cleanse what we do.

For all the targets Murphy’s Laws of Combat #9:
Don’t look conspicuous - it draws fire (This is why aircraft carriers are called “bomb magnets”)

Dear god I’m glad someone brought up the fact that CO can destroy secondarys like the footbridge with satchel… I mean it pains me to see eng’s trying to dynamite the allied base when a CO can breeze in and blow it with no problems.

(damocles) #29

Yeah I know that first hand. I was playing as COps and the foot bridge was built, so me and an engie wandered over to deal with the incoming allies. With the guys out of the way, the engie proceeded to plant on the bridge. Meanwhile I dropped my satchel there and once he cleared away I blew the bridge. He apparently did not like the fact that I got the XP for destroying it and shot me. He didn’t kill me, just injured me. Damn noobs.

(zoidberg) #30

This reminds me of something that happened to me, but as Allies with the Axis CP. The engr planted, and I came up and blew it with a satchel. He stood in the doorway of the building, waving his knife at me, and vsaying “NO!” I felt like he was scolding a naughty pet. :bash:

(damocles) #31

Hehe, you should have waved your knife a few times then hopped out the window.
