Annoying MG42 Problem

(schmeisser) #1

I’ve had a weird recurring problem with the mobile MG42, so far only on Fueldump and Goldrush. When prone with tripod out, sometimes the vertical traverse gets stuck, limiting the vertical cone of fire. I noticed it most on Fueldump, when camping in the trees near the fueltank gates, looking up toward the tank final position. Normally, you have enough vertical traverse to waste anyone who tries to use the tank MG or call in artillery. The highest I could point was the tank treads. I tried getting up, moving position, etc. without luck. The tank gunner wasted me repeatedly. I can normally dominate from this position, denying allied use of the tank as a gun platform. I also noticed it on Goldrush, set up at the courtyard health cabinet, trying to keep axis off the overlooking balcony while waiting for the first truck barrier to be blown. In that case, I was able to get vertical traverse back by getting up and down several times. Anyone else have this problem?

The position of the gun (how far up and how far down it can move) is determined by the terrain you deployed your bipod on. If you deployed it on a steep hill, looking up, the gun is gonna be stuck in the air.

But there is a prob with the mgs,… it is not important which map. Sometimes u had the probs,… sometimes not,… probably it has to do something with pmovedfixed??
I cant use the mgs anymore this is annoying,…

pmove_fixed will cause lots of errors. If you want to use it for jumps, have it on a bind. /bind key toggle pmove_fixed

This is not terrain related. I have some good spots picked out I use in these maps, no previous problems with traverse in thse locations. It happened to me again on Goldrush today intermittently. I also seem to be having trouble with the prone and tripod toggles, only with the Mg42.

While we speak of an MG42; is there a way to see what you’re shooting at when the bipod is in use and u fire downwards? i see only the image of my gun but not what i’m shooting at …

hmm, maybe you should make a bind to turn the gunview on and of, so bind cg_drawgun 0 to some key, or toggle is better maybe, so then it would be /toggle cg_drawgun i think.

Thanx, will try it out.

Codman
I have my drawgun bound to a key, works great for toggling gun view off. You can shoot downhill with a full view.

Now I got it too, thanx to mouse.
Now I am a deadly weapon combined with a MG42

btw: why do field ops forget to feed me ammo? I call for it, but no one cares

I don’t count on f’ops much. Load up first at an ammo cart if possible. 150 rounds doesn’t last too long. You can always /kill and try again if you run low. I was a Mg42 sniper on fueldump today, killed many Nazi’s. FUN. Traverse problem hasn’t reappeared in days. Who knows.
