Angry joe plays DB

(bumbertyr) #1

here’s the major thing he pointed out in his video description

We know that Bronze Cards give 3 perks and different guns Just like Silver, Gold and Cobalt. I stated towards the end its not TECHNICALLY Pay to Win. However its the drop rates & business model that pissed us off. Where you can end up getting cards you cant use in a pack that you purchase. And where you have to rely on RNG to order to get the Perks and Guns and Scopes that you want. Thanks for defending your new game, we understand your need to! But understand our right to be annoyed by this model that is clearly built specifically for this purpose instead of normal or player selected unlocks, perks, guns and skins.

Yes, and then a real critic dropped by and told him the truth in the comment section. His name is Total Biscuit also known as the Cynical Brit. He pointed out to Joe that you can buy any loadout through a bronze card. Joe is just like how I was in the beginning, he thinks Cobalt cards make a better player when in reality there are 9 loadouts for each merc. The card varieties are just skins typically, rather to show dedication towards the game. I used to like Joe, but as a critic I thought that he’d do more of his own research than listen to a guy over Skype who got numerous facts wrong. I was angrier than Joe was in the video by watching this video.

Mad respect for AJ, but this killed my view on him a bit. Still waiting for TB’s review.

Definitely quite a bit was wrong. I don’t blame him though because he was relying on knowledge that was coming from an obviously flawed source. If he had done the research himself… Who knows?

But raging does certainly drive viewer counts up, doesn’t it?

(Mr-Penguin) #4

And it’s free publicity!

(crimsonYouth) #5

i think Joe purposely does that type of stuff to start comment wars which boost his views.
That is why i don’t watch his BS and i make my own mind up.

As a well known gaming critic, I feel like he should always do his research before posting a review or similar video on a game. The amount of views his videos gets could offer a ton of traffic for the games that need it and giving a flawed, negative impression of the game kills that chance for it to grow from his viewership.

(Aazhyd) #8

We already have threads on this. Joe took an largely irrelevant part of the game, assumed it was very important, misjudged it completely and then ranted about it.

The quote above is a response to criticism he got from DB players and Total Biscuit.

Still you can see that there are quite some moronic people who take his word as truth and say the game is bad etc. Maybe it’s better that those guys don’t show up here.

(triteTongs) #9

It’s honestly better if we had competitive streamers play the game. I know a few of them bounced over to DB. That’s where the audience for the game is… they wont be found on some youtube channel of … that guy.

The only downside is some of these people assume it’s true, and downvote it on steam. In fact a lot of negative steam reviews have some pretty dumb reasoning behind them.

(B_Montiel) #10

Those youtube reviewers are terrible. They generally prefer to be the first to review the game in a fast and shallow fashion and don’t bother to include very personal opinion on things they completly missunderstood. In a sense, they are journalists. But they are not doing their journalist work properly. TB use to do such poor quality critics (I remember a completly retarded chivalry review he did where he completly missed the whole point of the game) but he now understood that you have to give quality reviews if you want to succeed in a long period of time. Hatred and Shallowness in the point you’re discussing generate immediate views, but in the long term, you’ll be dead.

TB alr reviewed the game when it was called extraction…

(Szakalot) #12

this wasn’t a review though, which is a key point imo. Angry Joe’s reviews have always been excellent, well thought out, very detailed and specific. I’m hoping he will make a review actually, as he would likely move away from this angry rant BS, which was just a dumped stream, who can expect a person be researched in a live stream video? Even SD devs streams are packed with misinformation about the very game they make.

Ok, but how will it be considered by most of his viewers ? As a review… That’s a true silly move in my opinion.

which is why im really hoping he would make a review after all. he did review brink, and it was pretty fair, considering average player’s interests

(brawnyJester) #15

Don’t give this idiot attention

(benignMaster) #16

I gave him a well deserved thumbs down.

(yellowCabbage) #17

Still better than IGN, thanks Joe.

My theory on how this video happened is Delrith played Dirty Bomb but didn’t understand how it all worked and made a lot of assumptions. Told Angry Joe about how good of a rage video it would make and Joe likes his rage videos since they are easily his most watched. Joe then, instead of playing much at all, goes directly to where he knows he can start raging. Then proceeds to do so as Delrith tells him incorrect thing after incorrect thing. During this time the Twitch chat (I was there) was blowing up about how scummy the game was and pay2win it was with zero interaction from Joe or anybody to clarify that. Mostly the same could be said about the YT video that didn’t have that description on it until AFTER people blew him up on Twitter.

Joe actually thought Dirty Bomb was an Open Access game and that it was in Alpha as well selling these cards. He even re-confirmed that Tuesday over Twitter. He can’t even do basic research. But he can make a rage video that gets tons of views and craps all over the hard work of Splash Damage while reaping the monetary rewards. He likes to call game devs “Corporate Commander” sometimes if they put in some scummy stuff but he’s pretty much being Corporate Commander himself here.

He didn’t even click anything else to see the other options. He zoomed straight to the loadout system because he knew it would make him money. I didn’t respect his viewpoint too much before this but I did watch some of his content. No more.

(sharpSubmarine) #19

I strictly follow a self imposed rule to not watch anything with a poorly photoshopped silly face on the video thumbnail.

Yeah the business model is greedy and people think SD/Nexon can do what dota 2 did (valve had multiple sources of income already) and dota 2’s overhead is probably low as fuck.
