And another thread about goddamn forced balance

(Jostabeere) #1

So will we get any form of balance from SD in cases of people leaving a room?
This: http://puu.sh/lnu5p/974a0c78c9.jpg shouldn’t be a thing, Not for a minute in OBJ/SW nor for a round in execution.
Is it so hard to make a forced balance which switches 1-2 players if one team gets 2+ less people?
This crap happens every third-fourth game to me. At that point you can leave and if you played 10 minutes, well, too bad, you lost and most of the time get spawnraped because the great majority of our beloved playerbase don’t give jack-shit about balancing and rather need a meaningless win.

Says the guy who flamed me because I played proxy and placed mine during a fight. If you were kind on servers and ask politely, people would tend to help (just use the foot in the door concept).

If you keep whining and being a dick, well, blame yourself.

Y’know… Before we get into important changes and tweaks like this? I think shotguns deserve another buff.

your personal drama with the OP has no bearing into the point he is making, which is that forced balances is necessary in pubs

Its not even that bad. I mean i played 1v6 for like 2 mins. Yes i was ALONE against six after everyone left and noone felt that swapping teams is necessary. Instead they spawncamped me for like a minute. So yeah balance is not an issue in this game at all…

(Faraleth) #6

Yep, auto balance is definitely needed. Was in a game 4v8 yesterday evening… and every time I called a vote-shuffle, it got 3 yes and 6+ no.

The saddest part was, this a level 10+ server and almost everyone was over level 20. You’d think after playing the game THAT long they would have some kind of sense about them in terms of realising a match is unbalanced… But no, they just wanted their easy win. :L

My personal drama, as you name it, show circumstances and you can dislike my post, it still shows something. Here’s my point:

Pubs, unlike comp, is made for people to leave whenever they want. Forcing people to change sides every time someone leave will piss off people even more. Asking people politely if one could change side would be better perceived.

I faced it myself. When someone politely ask like ‘Can someone please change team to help us’, I feel like to do it. If you just launch something like: ‘OMG, another fkn unbalanced game’, then the answer of the enemy team will be obvious. That’s just about mentality.

Now this game is in beta, which means you can help people to grow a nice mentality by not being a dick yourself, from the start. If people get use to ask politely, it will grow like that. If we allow bad behaviour from the start, the community will turn bad.

Is that a salt mine? In a 10+ server?

nice mentality? we are playing with kids! on the internet! this isnt some freemarket pipedream where the invisible hand of the servers will somehow solve balancing issues. if one team is 2 players up for >1min autobalancing should act. you cant hope ‘people will be nice’ while one team is hopelessly steamrolled. what usually follows are mass ragequits, new people are loading the game while the map is being stomped through with 1v6s and 7v2s like described here.

naturally other solutions exist like a spawn-queue for the larger team, one way or the other hoping that pub nexon-run servers will become oasis of teamwork and politeness and that these problema can fix themselves seems pretty naive to me

One team smaller by 2 or more?

  • after 30 seconds: offer an incentive to switch. Some credits, bonus XP, a chance for second case, whatever works. Limited to 1 per game per player to limit farming.
  • if still the case after 60 seconds: autoshuffle.

Better to offer a carrot first, and the stick second.

@Faraleth you could’ve called me :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Autobalancing based on eneven teams, like 3v6 etc, totally agree with

Balancing teams even though they are even…not so sure I agree, because I’ve seen people of all levels pulling their weight. Teamwork conquers all, even people like Ragnak.

(yenku) #13

I’m with you Fara…

This happens a lot of times.
There is more than one issue here. Ihmo.

  • People who don’t care about a FAIR game. They were born this way, there is nothing we can do.
  • No autobalance. Yes, autobalance is needed. For example, on TF2 there is no “polite asking for help”
  • Polite asking, we all would like people to be polite, kids or not. Being kid is not an excuse. Instead, behind a monitor and a keyboard all feel like omnipotent and unpunished.
  • 500 credits bonus for Win. You are winning, their team is 2 or more people less, you already feel credits coming in, would you join them risking to lose and miss those credits ? I don’t, sorry, I need credits. Don’t give me this bonus win and I’ll happily joining the other team, try my best and possibly lose the match.

Is not easy to have good matches and ALL, no exception, should show others that, being a dick, is not welcome in this game, if we want a sane community at least, not easy at all, I don’t think there are saints here but is not impossible.

This, of course, my opinion.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks.

An auto-balance feature would be nice, but I don’t think that this is the primary issue. It is far more common that players leave because their team is getting stomped than a team gets stomped because its players left. I think it is far more important that the game auto-detect stomps and end the match early. This will act as both a deterrent to player rage quitting and a solution to unbalanced teams.

(sentimentalDime) #15

I don’t think a forced autoshuffle is the way to go.
Instead SD could do something like: longer spawn wave timers if the teams are unbalanced, spawn wave queues etc.

This is interesting idea. Reward for not being a dick, huh? I rike it.

Yesterday I was on a server that actually attempted to keep balance pretty even despite it rarely happening. There were just too many different levels of skill on one server. But at least we tried. I think we even had every single vote pass on shuffling teams.

Forcing an auto-balance when teams get pretty uneven in regards to player numbers wouldn’t be such a bad thing. However, it does suck if you spent an entire match doing well and were about to get your win for the day (and assuming you didn’t have much time to complete it) then suddenly you’re losing horribly with no chance to come back.

So there are positives and negatives which means that people will be upset regardless :frowning:

I dont like autoshuffle in an objectice based game. It makes no sense after five mins. Right now some balance problem can come with one smurf or one veteran stomping a server. He/she can already switch when teams are uneven, dont give him/her on top of that an incentive to make the stomp last twice as long.

I think a part of the problem is that spawns are still easily camped on some map. And the only symetric games are stopwatch and execution. If people are outnumbered and still want to fight it’s awesome. As of now some games I played with uneven teams were balanced, skillwise.

youd have to have hell of a stack to pull off 3v7 or 4v8

Slightly deviating from autobalance, but it’s in the realm of balancing teams anyways.

I get really annoyed when 2 people are obviously playing together and 1 of the 2 people goes spectate as soon as the game starts and waits for somebody to join the team that is now 1 person down so they can then join their friend. I recognize there’s no party system, and you want to play with friends, but it both throws off the initial team balancing, regardless of how bad it is, and it instantly puts 1 of the teams behind by a player for x amount of time, and then by 2 players while the person who just joined is loading in while the player who spectated hops on to his buddy’s team, and then back to behind by a player for y amount of time until another player joins. Usually, the players that do this are also somewhat competent, so the teams frequently get stacked this way as well.

Is it really that bad to play a few games against each other? Friendly competition only kills the weakest of friendships.
