Ammo Supply From Soldiers?

(Achtung) #1

No Lieutenant sorta sux for one main reason.

Soldiers now have Ammo Supply!

No good if this game works like other SD games.

I love the MG in ET because while i never played Soldier class often it was balanced nicely between the need to get in the right position and that you had to get prone and use the tripod to hit anything. Deadly as hell in this position, but ammo limits kept this balanced nicely and giving soldiers the ability to supply themselves with ammo scares the hell outa me. :frowning:

Though Ravensofts recent Wolf was horrible I did like the Engineers givin out ammo with the lack of Liets.

NOW GET ME SOME MEDIC VIDEO ALREADY!

I love that you somehow know this for a fact.

All classes can use all weapons. It’s only restricted by the choice of the body type.
And no, ET doesn’t work like ETQW and Brink seems to work even less like them.

(tokamak) #4

I guess Achtung only received bits of information about Brink. Brink does not work exactly like the ET games especially not when it comes to class abilities and weapon selection. First of all, the gun-types are dependent on the body-type, not the class. The light soldiers will only have access to the lightest of guns while heavy medics can carry miniguns around. Supplying yourself with ammo is only interesting for the heavy soldiers, probably easily rivaled by buffing your own weapon as a heavy engineer.

Secondly, supplying yourself is twice as expensive as getting supplied by team-mates. A team with selfish soldiers will only have half the amount of ammo to waste compared to a team with selfless soldiers.

So don’t worry about what’s going on here, it’ll be far more interesting than the previous ET’s. A soldier supplying himself with ammo sounds as unbalanced as a covert ops with a grenade launcher, while in reality they both fall under the same balancing mechanic.

I forgot all about that part. So medics can self heal (although they won’t be throwing medpacks ont eh ground I guess) and engies can buff their own weapons and the deal with the ammo, but it costs twices as much.

Is there more info on how the “currency” system works? Is it global for the team (which is kind of worrisome becuase then you have the selfish guys as you say using it all up) or is it a per player thing? Maybe it’s actually just your charge bar goes down twice as much and it’s as simple as that?

(darthmob) #6

There is some info on the forums, Cankor. Simply search for pips, that’s what the currency is called. Here’s a post from Rahdo about it.

(tokamak) #7

Each player has his own regenerating supply of pips, but naturally, the way they use it carries out across the entire team. Roughly speaking, a cohesive team has twice as many resources than a selfish team. That’s huge.

Tbh he looks like a drive by whiner… probably won’t come back and see the this helpful info.

I know when you heal yourself as a Medic there is cooldown, but healing others there is not.

Thanks!

Re: the comment that if your power meter is 3 pips long you can do 3 class actions: I wonder if planting is considered a “class action” in this context? Hopefully disarming wouldn’t be, all the engies would have to make sure they always have a pip open in case they had to disarm a plant.

(tokamak) #11

There seems to be one at least ever week, perhaps new people should need a few posts under their belt before they gain the right to post new threads (of course the introduce yourselves section should be excempt).

(Achtung) #12

No Whining this is awesome news. This is what I love about Splash Damage. Well thought out. I was just worried about OP soldiers.

However r u sure light classes can use heavy weapons? LINK?

(Nail) #13

there are no light classes, just light bodies

(tokamak) #14

light body: Light weapons (sub-machine guns, uzis etc)
medium body: Light AND medium weapons (the above+shotguns, assault rifles)
heavy: Light AND medium AND heavy weapons (the above+ machine guns, explosive weapons).

Class has no effect on weapon choice.

(ED209) #15

Yeah, I wanna see this baby in action. Should be cool as.

Yeah thats what I thought.

So can any body style use say Medic? So Heavy+MG+MedTools? could be some werid setups hehe.

(tokamak) #17

Medtools come standard unless gained through perks, but yeah, you can be a medic with a heavy weapon.

The thing is, no class truly offers an advantage to these things, engineers can buff their weapons, medics can keep themselves alive and soldiers can keep shooting, and even then you and your team would be playing the game wrong if you’re all reliant on your own class-ability, sharing is far more powerful.

Only the operative has no obvious advantage to weapons, then again, disguising and emptying a heavy weapon in the other team’s back can be called obvious.

(coolstory) #18

what no shotgun for the light. Source?

(signofzeta) #19

How slow are heavies anyway? About the same speed as an ET player holding a panzerfaust?

(tokamak) #20

I guess that’s all part of the balance process. Probably even open to change in later patches.
