AMD Catalyst™ 11.5b hotfix out, Got better performanse

(rusk) #41

I have been following the performance issues for a while now and it seems you have to make piece with the fact that you need a Core i7-2600k> paired with a nVidia GTX 560> to play this game with a proper amount of eyecandy in a Full-HD resolution at reasonable fps. That said I still can’t get my head around that since the engine clearly neither is that taxing nor state-of-the-art by any means.
Also I seriously doubt any patching either from SD or from ATi will make this game run significantly faster fps-wise.
Though I am happy to be taught the opposite.
For the curious out there I am running the game on Full-HD, no AA, no AO, no AF, no shadows and put all those tweaks in place as well as tried every graphics driver that was suggested (certainly followed the standard protocol for a clean re-install of any graphics driver) along with that modded one. My fps were always in the window of 30 to 140 fps averaging at 40 to 50. The fps jitter and the eye candy I have to disable for that to take place is simply not acceptable.
I am playing on a Ci7-860@3.8Ghz, HD5870 1GB and 8GB DDR3@1440Mhz.

I was thinking about this problem the other day. What happens if you take it back and say ‘I do not agree with the enclosed terms and conditions, but I didnt know this until I opened it to read them’ ? Surely they would have to give a refund?
11.2 is still better in my system. These drivers have some problem when running the game in window-mode and causing BSOD, STOP: 0x00000116 “atikmdag.sys”.

Using 4870X2 / E8400 @ 3.6 Ghz

Please let me know if anyone is having the same problem.
Thats what im getting with the same card.

No absolutely not. Thats one of the fundamental pillars of at least the German law which states: “Unwissenheit schützt vor Strafe nicht”.
That roughly translates to lacking the knowledge of (certain) laws does not protect against punishment/prosecution. It originates from the Roman law: “ignorantia legis non excusat”.
So as long those TOS are not detrimental to any current German laws they are valid and are to be considered as legit lawful contracts between Valve and their customers.
I am not a lawyer so dont hold me to that.

… and every lawer, every judje and most of the gamers in the world will tell you:
the game is palyable with 40 + FPS. theres no need to complain whatsoever.

ok brink is everythingthing else than perfect performancewise.
there´s got to be improvement - no question that.
but all this whining about “unplyable” and “i want to give it back” is just ridicoulous.

IF you want your money back, it´s simple: give valid proof, that the game doesn´t work for most ( at least 75%) of the people running the recommended / minimum specs.
Than give a valid proof, that you performance issues have nothing to do with:

  • your personal rig / configuration
  • the drivers from ati
  • other issues that are not to be consideres SDs problem.
And always keep in mind: “playable” starts at around 30+

My experience with SD games…they get better performancewise. SD cares but soethings take some time.

I’am sorry but a game, which drops from 50-60’ish frames down to 10-20 FPS,IS INDEED unplayable.
I’am not trying to sound like a elitist but a PC gamer who play’s FPS shooters for years and years NEEDS his 50-60’ish frames to get a smooth feeling.

YEAH,i can play it but HOW!?Did i pay 40 euro for such quality?Pfff.

The only thing 11.5b do for brink is added CF support right? Dont realy help us whit one GPU?

From the patch notes from AMD’s page its only Drift 3 that gets a performance boost.

So if im not wrong this is just a waste of time for us that have one GPU

(Inofor) #48

11.5b helped my fps (pretty good fps boost), I got a single 5830. I got the modified packages so I could install it on Vista.

(Rynji) #49

11.5b boosted my fps real good, it never goes below 60fps now. Before 11.5b i had alot of drops to 30fps and an average of about 50fps.
5850 1gb, 2500k, 8gb, wi 7 -64.

Ambient occlusion still kills my fps, but dont really need it.

(MysticoN) #50

hmm… strange when all it do is enable CF in 2 games. Wel its worth a try then

(.FROST.) #51

My fps are better too and the freeze takes longer to happen now; 3 to 4 minutes instead of 1 1/2 minutes before. I actually thought it was over but, 5 minutes left of the mission, than… you guess it. But at least it showes, that they(catalyst guys) are working in the right direction. The only question is, why can’t they fix it completely?

I would like to know what causes the freeze problem. It’s hard to wait when you don’t know how long. When theres no ending in sight. I prefer to wait knowingly for 6 hours for something, instead of 4 while I don’t know the whole time what’s going on and how long it will take in the end. If ATI says 1 month from now on, I can work with that. If the say nothing it makes me crazier each day. I’m not insane, but I think you guys know what I mean.

I read something about an implemented fps counter. How can I initiate it?

(Inofor) #52

Wrong. This is what it said on twitter:

CatalystCreator Andrew D
Yes this is the Witcher 2 hotfix - it should also slightly improve single GPU performance, but focus is CF support
25 May

(miDGet) #53

i would love to test this hotfix, but it’s not available for vista-users. cheers AMD, i’m going back to nvidia as soon as possible…

(Inofor) #54

miDGet: get the modified packages from 3dguru. They worked for me.
Link: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=344990

(miDGet) #55

i tried them, but the hotfix apparently didn’t do anything. i’m so annoyed that ppl with worse rigs can play this game in a competitive way while my frames still drop to 25 in some battles/areas, no matter what config i use.

but thanks anyway inofor, you’re a good guy (;
Still unplayable on HD 5870 E8400 3.0ghz. :frowning:

was expecting so much this week. im really disappointed. Anyone knows if there’s a possibility in germany to get a refund? bought brink in a store (Saturn) not on steam.
Same Setup, and the performance (including my tweak) is up a a lot but still DISAPPOINTED, is not unplayable but is ugly to see the framerate is not constant, a lot of microshutering.

I think is the game it self, not the graphics… the card and the processor are not so stressed.

I will post my tweaks later.

(eMwegA) #57

that would be nice. Okay its true. Im lying when i say its “unplayable” on lowest settings i get an average framerate. But than the game looks ugly as hell and still runs not that great. considering this is a competative multiplayer game it makes in unenjoyable to have fps drops everytime you shoot…
Correct me if im wrong but i read somewhere that Resolution is a GPU feature: Means if you turning down the resolution to minimum and it still got low fps you can see that the cpu is the bottleneck.
By turning down my resolution i get massive fps wins. so it doesnt seem to be the cpu but the GPU?? Right?

I’m still testing and tweaking more trying to find the bottlenek.

(.FROST.) #59

Still freezing. Due to the latest SD update its only half as often, but still at least three times per mission(not map). After I press crtl+alt+del the fourth or fifth time my card can’t recover at all and I have to reboot my whole system. My fps are actually quite fine but Brink causes my swap file(500MB) to overflow after a while(15-20min). So I increased the swap file size to 1,5Gigs. No further problems there.

Why is there no official statement from SD concerning the performance and freeze issue? We just want to know, so we can understand. Its corwardish to take cover behind useless patches. Tell us, what’s up and we will understand, but please show your face, as you did for the promotion of Brink. I want to trust you and at the moment you can give me as much new maps for free as you want. I can’t play them. By now my copy of Brink is nothing more than a small fresbee in a fresbee case.

Say it can be fixed in 2 months or not at all, fine. But please say something. The last twelve days I’m doing nothing other in my free-time than installing and de-installing fixes and catalysts and posting in this forum.

I don’t care about my invested money or refunds, I just want my life back. But I can’t stop trying everything possible to get this program running. I’m too stubborn to just give up. So please tell me Its broken beyond repair or it will take another couple months for you, SD, to fix this whole thing thoroughly.
Say it, give us something to work with.

surely my core 2 duo quad core extreme 3ghz should be fine with an ATI 6970? oh, and 4gb ram?
