Alternative sounds ?

Hello everybody,
I’ve been playing ET:QW for two years, on the Mac french version. Watching tips and tricks videos, I’ve noticed that all the weapons/accessories/walking sounds are different than mine. My sounds are smoother and discreete. The lacerator in my version sounds a bit like “zzew zzew”, whereas in the videos I hear “tum tum”. It’s not a big problem anyway, but it’s difficult for me to recognize an enemy in disguise just by listening to his steps, for example.

I’ve tried with the box “compressed sounds” ticked and unticked, and with the English version, and the sounds are the same.

Does anyone know how I can change these sounds ?

Thanks in advance,
EvanCrystal

That’s really weird, I’ve played the game on all platforms and the sounds are the same on all the platforms.

Can you post a link to one of the videos as an example?

I suspect he’s referring to the early ETQW footage…

Where the game does indeed look and sound rather different.

Actually no, on this one :

I can hear distinctly the difference when he’s using the blaster or the accurized lacerator. At each laser fired, we can hear a blast, whereas on my version, I only hear the laser sound. The GDF weapons don’t sound the same either.

How wierd. I remember a discussion on the old ET:QW forums (RIP) about something similar I think. Somebody reckoned there was a problem with the weapon sounds that they could hear compared with other folks. Didn’t go anywhere from memory.

I remember theres is a command to get different v-say sounds, but im not sure if it affected gunfire noises

I dunno, maybe your game’s messed up?
The sounds in the video you posted sound exactly like the ingame sounds to me.

What are “v-say sounds”? Anyway, I’ll look for it, thank you.

PS : I’m in your clan. XD

Too bad that Activision’s ET:QW forum is dead… They should have let it online.

Found it.
As it says on tweakguide:

s_maxSoundsPerShader [value] - This setting determines the maximum number of sounds to use per shader, that is how diverse the sounds effects are. Increasing this value may increase sound variety but also increases memory usage and can reduce performance.

Thanks Dthwsh, I’ll check it out.
