Alternative Axis tactic on Battery

(The-Original-Pvt-Parts) #1

I was playing on a pub server the other week - one of the 40+ player ones on Axis and it came round to Battery.

Groan, standard spiel “Nobody OPEN THE BACK DOOR!” I spawned at the rear and went to the door to guard it only to see 2 Axis on their way out.

Oh no…

I alert the rest of the Axis team that we have Noobs running around out back and I set myself up with the mounted MG to shoot anything that comes back round the corner. The two that originally went out hadn’t been attacked yet but two more went out.

Well, I saw red at this point and decided (nothing to loose) went out after them with the intention on TKing the idiot lot of them.

Anyway I found them all at the top of the path that leads up from the beach and they were giving it absolute death to the Allies

I join in myself, and another Axis medic joins us (quite a party by now). There wasn’t much communication between us but the basic idea was that anyone was allowed to kamikaze onto the beach, but if you did, you weren’t coming back up.

We just killed anything coming up the path and despite the Allies valliant attempts with Panzerfire they were getting nowhere.

Another interesting thing is that if you hold the top of that path, they can’t really get a mortar set up to hit you (you’re field of fire covers their mortar sites).

To be fair, the teams were pretty evenly matched and we managed to hold the allies off and win - nobody more suprised than me!

I had a similar experience when I first started playing ET, before I realized this was supposed to be a bad idea. It’s an excellent tactic if you have enough bodies to spare. As Allied I rarely see anyone go up the back path anymore, except maybe a lone hopeful Covop, looking for someone to stupidly open the back door.

Well, I tend to whip up there as an engineer when Im on allies to build the CP, then straight back down to have a go at the ramp.

I’ve just had a go at playing allied and trying to shoot the top of that path from the bottom, its certainly not easy (Panzer/riflenade etc)

Plus the Axis get the benefit of time up there; they can see your rounds on the way up.

I’ve thought of a counter tactic that might be useable but I’ll let you all figure out your own if you ever find yourselves in this situation (the fun of the game) :chef:

A small fairly competent team (with a covert ops who resigns himself to his sole mission being that of blowing up the foot bridge) can easily defend the standard route.

This allows enough forces to mount a defense at the back path as you mentioned with quite a bit of success.

I actually think this is a better plan, because in general it seems most everyone stays at the main way up. Inevitably someone will get artied on to the beach or so on, and a uniform will be gotten. Quite often when the allies get to the back door, its weakly defended because no one wants to sit there all game with no action. This is usually followed up with finger pointing on the axis end as to who the newb who let them in was, when most times it’s just a random arty blast that knocks a body on the beach.

If you set up to two stronge defenses, on each route, the massive crossfire you can lay down on the beach is such that the allies can barely move. Plus, it’s a hell of a lot more fun and more in the spirit of the game in my opinion.
