Alternate to one button melee kill

(maxtalent) #21

alternatively two lights could run around together meleeing people left and right
Could have some clarification, on what “instant” mean? Do you mean like it has no animation time and happens immediately, or do you mean instant as in an instant kill?

would also like some closure on this as well.
Hes responding to the query or I should say rage about instant melee kills.

It takes 2 melees to kill someone - one to knock them down and one to finish while the enemy is on the ground. The second one is an instant kill.

And given that the player can defend himself while being knocked out, its a nice balanced way of avoiding the knife poofs you see in mw2.

(tokamak) #23

That sounds incredibly exciting.

(Senethro) #24

I think its interesting. In most games after a grenade explosion you can be alive or dead. In Brink you can be alive, knocked down, in need of revive, or dead.

(tokamak) #25

Also explosions tend to be rather unexpected in lots of cases, they sure were in ETQW and W:ET, a random knock-down can be a rather cinematic experience.

It also ups the tactical tension, sometimes it may be worth to take a grenade hit and get yourself up where as in the other games it never is worth getting hit by an explosive.

(Senethro) #26

Unless you’re planning to start grenade jumping I don’t see how.

(tokamak) #27

Having to chose between being shot at or diving behind cover that happens to be within the knock-down radius for example. Or bridging a final distance for an objective while taking the hit.

There are situations where securing a position is worth taking a knock-down for whereas there are never any situations where securing a position is worth dying for as that would mean the position would be useless.

(Cankor) #28

Will have to see how fast you can execute the second strike after the first one, but at least the guy struck has a chance to defend himself, and if he has help an even better chance. Sounds good, certainly way better than an instant kill.

Assuming he picked the shoot-whilst-you’re-downed perk. Screenshot taken from one of the preview videos.

Also, this ‘heavies should be immune to everything I don’t like’ meme needs to die asap. It’s a videogame. Either the bodytypes are balanced or it is a bad game.

(BioSnark) #30

I assume, from what bezzy said, that being knocked down is different from being incapacitated (which in mp gaming generally means needing a teammate to get up).

(tokamak) #31

His concern was balance. I don’t think melee will be a problem, easier melee is an advantage that comes with higher speed at the cost of other stuff, no big deal.

(SebaSOFT) #32

Also, what happens if you are sliding and hit someone else in the ankles? Slide knockback?

(DarkangelUK) #33

I believe you can do slide tackles

(.Chris.) #34

Really makes me want to make powerball on Brink now

(matsy) #35

Knock down with the ball would be amazing!

(maxtalent) #36

wait, if other guns knockdown and effectively 2 hit kill someone, how does the knife function?

(H0RSE) #37

It works with the pistol. I assume it will be something similar to - pop off a few shots with pistol, knife him, he’s dead.

(Cankor) #38

Thought I heard a knife will insta-kill a light? Again, they could be balancing based on the time to recover from the melee strike: can you get two pistol shots off in the same time it would take to knife and then recover? If so the pistol is the better first shot choice on a medium or heavy: shoot then knife on those guys (assuming the knife does more damage than a pistol, otherwise just keep shooting)

(LyndonL) #39

… knife’s a great backup though if you’re out of ammo such as an operative behind enemy lines.
