All about XP

I was playing the other day and had to lmao at this eng just sitting at the first allie mg nading/repairing it the entire round, then at the end of the round he typed “everyone look, I am the best eng!!!”

I think in theory Exp should show who the best player is - but it won’t unless Exp takes everything in to account. I don’t know the answer to these but I’m guessing there’s no difference…

Does Exp improve more if you manage to take on and kill three enemy players at close quarters all in a row - surely this indicates a player is highly skilled (experienced in combat)

If I throw a smoke grenade where the allied engs build the bridge, thus providing them cover from enemy fire - and as a result they build the brdige without dying - does this give me more Exp than just throwing a smoke canister in to some remote corner of the map?

I once spent about 5 minutes hiding in the axis base waiting for an axis engineer to open the door as he runs to the roof. I was just able to sneak through the door behind him, get past him while he was looking the other way, jump in to the axis objective compound and blow the objective to win the game. In those 5+ minutes i was gaining no experience and didn’t fire a single shot but in real life such a skillful and daring act would have been highly decorated.

So my point is Exp should indicate who the best player is but unless it could cover all eventualities then it never trully will.

Its hard to judge who is the best player with XP because another fact is each class is different and there XP lvls rise differently. Maybe they should divide the XP bored into class groups and for some1 who plays more than 1 class goes into the all rounder section.

Something like this

ENGINEER
so&so 100xp
Some1else 85xp

FIELD OPS
Otherguy 200xp
Thisguy 156xp

Just an idea

lol, I’ve also done this when there’s no allied cov op around. Boring, but quite fun when it works. Now when I’m playing as Axis and go tru the door I make sure that no1 follows.

I think the awards section tells enough with the different awards for each class. (Best Medic, Best Engy, Best Covert etc)

Objective winner award would be nice, but often the objective is won by teamwork, so it would be unfair to raise the lucky engy above the cov ops who blow the gates.

yaya… sure XP isnt the end all be all of a good player. So, no high XP does not mean that you are a good player…

BUT GEE: why is it that all the good players are at the top of the list of experience?

Polls like this seem to be about patting the whinny lilttle nail-heads on the bad and saying, “Ah, its ok that you suck so bad.”

WAH F_CKIN WAH.

A good medic should always be high on the list, but a good engineer is typically in the middle of the pack. Ergo, XP is not the sum of your playing ability.

I would argue that anyone at the top of the pack is probably pretty good but this is not always true. I have seen an LT, er, fieldOps just sitting in spawn dishing out ammo - lots of it. Let’s him roll up the points but doesn’t mean he’s a good player.

Hmm, not to disillusion you. We both go to server. I will play a FdOps, you go out and fight in any class but med, heck maybe even med. I will toss ammo at spawn point. I will beat your XP score, maybe even if you were a med. I will be the “best FdOps” too. You will have done more to win the game, but I will still have the coveted (by you) highest XP.

I’m a CvOps, and there are very few times I will have the highest XP. I will, however, help my team win if possible.

Hehe I do that too now!

You are so right about getting 20 pound of gold-medals IRL, when you pulled a stunt like that in war
I think it would be very hard to reward such actions right now in ET ; as it would need a whole new ‘designing model’ imo

One thing that would be needed here, is a strong AI, overlooking general progress of all the players, and knowing what is happening with them: This should be done in the way that every1 would be privately ‘monitored’ as if to get and understand every action you make, and reward you appropriate.
I don’t think that such an intensive routine could be run on alot of players atm, and if it is even allready possible to have a , hard-to-exploit, AI monitor you along the way.
Would be very cool though
Get at least a couple of thousand XP if you pull of the one-engineer-stunt

There are soooo many variables and factors that it really makes it impossible to make a reallistic XP model, but the way it is , is still fun and I think its fine. Take for example on UDP chmod has a stat tracking page on udpviper.com and as accurate and detailed as it is at the end of the day some of the very best players (imo) have terible stats but they are the best team players I have ever seen play wolf.

(Vengeance) #32

yeah, UDP is a great server

(bumfluff) #33

The only problem I have with XP is how ridiculous it is to kill a medic whose been playing for a while and is high on XP, especially so if you’ve just joined.

I think something has to be done about them… because once they’re high on XP it’s easy for them to get 5-10 kills in a row providing they have the ammo for it, even with a pistol they’re still dangerous as it takes you about half an hour to drain their energy to zero.

Personally I think if the rate of fire was sped up for smgs it would solve alot of the equality issues.
