Aircraft mouse controlling request...

(BlackEyez) #1

I really think that the way to control flying vehicles in ET:QW feels odd by using “A” & “D” to turn right and left, and by moving the mouse horizontal in order to roll/strafe… I’d rather want the aircraft to turn when moving the mouse horizontal and “strafe” with the “A” & “D” keys.

Would it possible to give us the ability to map the keys this way for the aircrafts?

Thanks in advance!

The ability is there to map the keys.

You can even map the same keys to different functions depending on what vehicle you are driving at the time! Have a look HERE where reyalp gives a good description of how to work it.

That’s great and all, but I think it doesn’t answer his question how he can change the mouse axis behaviour.

AFAIK there is no way to do this. but those controls are easy to learn, really. it makes more sense to me that with my mouse i tilt flyer left/right front/back and turn with a and d. afaik that is the way the do it in helo’s (’‘joystick’’ for pitch/yaw and pedals for turning.

yeah but in QW the helos are a bit n00b proof and actually quite hard to crash if you compare them to helicopters in desert combat and because the boosters move you forward it feels a lot more like flying a jet than a helicopter

it quite hard to aim at a distance using “a” and “d” as you cant get the same precision as you get when using the mouse so its a control setup that i will defiantly be trying

Off-topic: helicopters in Desert Combat lacked some HUD tools like a virtual horizon. It’s pretty hard to navigate if you can’t even be sure that your heli is perfectly leveled.

I personally think the flight controls are pretty easy to learn after a few tries. I recommend turning off y-axis invert for flight controls, for most people who don’t play flight sims, heh. But I agree that it’s hard to get precision aiming with the A-D turning though.

At least it’s a hell of a lot easier to fly now than in Beta 1. When I accidentally moved my mouse to turn, I’d roll over sometimes. Even on simple flight controls of Beta 1, there wasn’t that autocorrection for yaw that’s in now. I’ve never rolled over past 90 degrees even when I try on the demo, and it’s hard to maintain at 90 degrees if you don’t try since it constantly pulls to auto-correct yaw to a bit less than 45 degrees.

that was pretty tricky but you just had to keep at it until you had a feel for it. They were extreamly hard to fly but when masterd they gave a lot of freedom from the controls

is there any way to turn of the auto correction like enabling advanced flight controls?

Well, yeah, you could learn it eventually but it’s like asking people who play with the mouse inverted option on, to turn it off and learn to play without it. I’m asking this becaue I’m used to Unreal Tournaments flight controls, which actually also do provide more precision as Dr_Tenma mentioned.

It’s not only a matter of convenience, but also a matter of giving the players the ability to be good pilots without the need to buy a joystick and switch between it and the keyboard/mouse…

Yeah, there’s an option for advanced flight controls. As far as I can tell, the yaw autocorrection is the only difference between simple and advanced controls. On advanced, you can do complete barrel rolls or fly around upside down if you’re into that kind of thing.

If you bind a key to _strafe this should (according to digibob) switch the behavior of strafe keys/mouse yaw. However, you would have to hold the key down.
