Air Strikes in Brink, yes or no Rahdo?

(dohfOs) #1

two quotes, from two different sources. (the recent nowgamer/xboxmagazine-interview & the crossfire q&a-thread), both replies from rahdo.

Q: Will there be airstrike/support fire, panzerfaust etc… like in f.e. W:ET?
A: we’ve got some nice high explosive weapons and items, but no airstrikes… doesn’t fit the fiction of the world, and it wouldn’t work well on a lot of our indoor environments (some levels are 100% indoors).

Q: Many multiplayer games now allow customisation on a huge level, not just of characters and their abilities but often what players can do within matches (call in air strikes etc) have you approached these ideas in Brink?
A: Definitely! In fact, back in 2003, our title Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory introduced earning XP (experience points) to level up and earn new combat abilities. So we’ve been doing this kid of gameplay for a long time, and Brink definitely takes it to the next level. I think players are going to be really surprised by the sheer number of new items, abilities, weapons, weapon add-ons, and outfits they can earn as they play.

is the second answer just wrongly interpreted? or will there be air strikes in brink after all?

(and you know rahdo i love u and your dedication. just want this as clear as possible as i’ve been telling people for quite some time there won’t be air strikes in brink)

I don’t see where he says there will be airstrikes?

(AnthonyDa) #3

The answer is : No.

(Shiv) #4

in he second he says there will definetly be abilities and things players can do in matches.
not that there are airstrikes, airstrikes is the example given in the question!

(Slade05) #5

Second statement is not contradicting to the first in any way, you`re fighting semantics here.

(tokamak) #6

Yeah this definitely warranted a new thread.

(Xerxes52) #7

I strongly doubt there will be air strikes, arty, MLRS, etc.

I’m so happy about there being no helicopters, tanks, air-strikes, UAVs, or any crap like that in Brink. mainly because I feel like yes you should be rewarded for doing good, but kill streaks are just lame. Oh boy! I get to kill a bunch of people at no real risk to myself, all because I got seven kills in a row!

Just seems like gas to the flame when you’re noob tubing away in CoD…

Now if you got Seven knife kills without dying or seven pistol kills without dying maybe I could agree that salting the wound is deserved. But I like things like showing the enemy in your mao fir a short period or other things like that because that doesn’t stop gameplay.

And what I mean by stop gameplay is that when someone gets a harrier in CoD everyone on the other team essentially hides for it’s duration and the guy who used it gets free kills on any stragglers…

Yeah for 8v8 no vehicles or airstrikes! Okay I really am done rambling now…

(DarkangelUK) #9

Well… in one of the container city trailers, you can hear one of the guys shout “enemy UAV online”. I mentioned it in one of the threads, but Rahdo said it was something he couldn’t talk about at the moment.

(BeyondSpectrality) #10

I’ll have to re-watch those ;/ as long as its nothing more than an enemy position reveal it’ll be okay…

(brbrbr) #11

how there can be place for such things in games with maps SO small ???!
maybe SD developers introduce another [relatively small]are-effect weapons/skills, but only as unlock and only 4 particular class[i guess thats should be soldier and/or engineer(depend type of spell…erm…feature)].

my concern went up due to the face two other gaming news sites quoted rahdo in the way it was a “defiantly” to air strikes (which i assume is wrongly interpreted by them). just wanted to make it clear, that’s all

i’m basically with BeyondSpectrality here; “I’m so happy about there being no helicopters, tanks, air-strikes, UAVs, or any crap like that in Brink.” (even though, as DA says, some sort of UAV might be there even if one hates it) and even the smallest glimpse of various gaming sites saying there will be air strikes in brink brought me down :stuck_out_tongue:

Crap? Yes well, while you’re selecting your handbag and matching ear rings for your avatar in brink (which I still believe may be a good game btw) I’ll be driving a TANK! [BFBC2] Why would you walk when you can ride. Vehicles in ETQW made the game better than all the cod clones.

Some have said there are too many vehicles and not enough pedestrians, I beg to differ, there are just the right amount of vehicles and enough pedestrians to warrant a new paint job every 2.5km on average :armadillochase:

Now back on topic aristrikes / violators were the one “unfair” element of ETQW, as there was no real counter to them, (other than running indoors). But they were a not out of place but they would be in an infantry only game IMHO. So after all that I agree with you on air strikes being bad for Brink.

MOOKA!

(Szakalot) #14

i see no necessity for an airstrike in Brink.

(Bongoboy) #15

No airstrikes in Brink

(shibbyuk) #16

This is gonna make teamkilling difficult :frowning:

(DoubleDigit) #17

Agreed, it’s a sad day.

(dohfOs) #18

thank you :stroggbanana:

(btw, when are we getting a brinkbanana?

Friendly fire is OFF by default, so most servers will be set like that too…
