I have been having this issue whenever ET crashes for a while now, but it has only recently started to bother me. Its inconvienient for me to reboot which always fixes it, so I was wondering if there is any way to manually reset the gamma?
After ET crashes, gamma is extremely bright...
i think in windows u can go to ur display properties advanced and look under colour correction.
you try restarting et, then exiting? dont have to play a game - just load and quit-
works 4 me
You might be able to fix this by turning up the contrast and brightness on your monitor and then turning down the gamma in ET. That way you won’t need to turn up you gamma as high in the first place and you should notice the difference between et’s gamma setting that wasn’t reset, and the regular windows gamma setting.
OK this happens to me aswell.
when ET crashes it leaves the in game gamma on the desktop.
A clan mate of mine with an ATI card can go into his advance setting for his display and click on a 3D thingy and then click back to desktop mode and hes good
I on the other hand with a G4ti 4200 have to reboot my system.I have riva tuner and run the 45.23 drivers and i have no options to change modes like he can…soo
Adjusting my desktop brightness/contrast is not going to happen.I would like to know if there is a real solution for us Nvidia users other than rebooting.
Its kinda excessive, but if you download the Natural Selection mod for Half-Life it includes a little exe that resets your card’s gamma to the default. Its what I use whenever ET or any other game that uses “overbrightness” crashes on me.

actually you can easily start up ET again from a shortcut and quit it.It fixes the gamma instantly without restarts or anything. Just run ET and quit it. It used to be the same with q3 for me, whenever it crashed for some reason…Try it out hope it works for you too
nope,that,no worky for me.
if that was the case i wouldent have bothered with this post, and after talking with a few other people with this same proplem none of them have been able to restore there desktop gamma by restarting ET and quitting.
This was only 3 people mind you.
I’m on a GF4 Ti 4800SE and I have the same problem - rebooting is my usual fix, although I did find that opening ET, setting gamma to 1.0, exiting, opening ET again, setting gamma to 1.6 (or whatever your normal is) and then quitting will fix it - but its a lot of work. I’ve yet to try the HL mod because I don’t have HL and it won’t install without it.
This merits one of those nifty little “Excellent!” comments from the Axis voicechat.
Wunderbar!
