Advanced Movement: walljumping/running/ledge-grab

Just a quick poll about walljumping, wallrunning and ledge-grab mechanics. Note: the vids only show the basic principles, of course it is not meant to be mapped 1:1 into xT.

What is meant by …

What of these do you want to see in xT. The whole three combined, parts of it, or none at all. What else do you think might be worth polling about improving the movement system. Or do you think the movement system is fine as is.

I think no one here is satisfied with the current movement system, though I think walljumps and wallrunning wouldn’t bring much improvement either.
And I always associate ledge-grab mechanics with a slow animation, which rather interrupts your movement flow than enhancing it. So I’m against it.

Voted for: None at all.

the question is if walljump fits with the gameplay.

Nothing which feels artificial (like S.M.A.R.T.). Organic movement like strafe jumping which adds another skill element to the game would be nice, though. The second video looks more like it than the first one, but I haven’t played either game, so can’t really say how they feel.

If nothing is added, that’s fine by me as well. Crouch jumping combined with sprinting already allows to reach certain areas non-trivially. Maybe it’d be nice to add more opportunities to use it.

Mazesc sums it up pretty well: strafejumping adds another skill element to master. See for example the many many maps made for strafejumping on ET. A whole new ingame community risen up becuz of it, same as the daily matches which are played on CB lsdders. It adds a cool new skill to master

Just going to jump onto the broken record bandwagon of ’ Strafe jumping’ once again… cant really be bothered to further develop my point anymore as its been said a million times since i joined this alpha.

Voting for “none at all” seems rather silly, unless you think not approving of anything other than strafe-jumping is going to force SD to add it. :eek:

I vote for all of them, anything that involves doing more than just pressing +forward gets my vote.

yes lets have people walljumping. that will certainly make fragging more fun and interesting… its bad enough that noobs jump around since there’s no spread at all

Since when is jumping for noobs? Randomizing movements and still being able to hit the head takes some effort. Good aim should able to track a jumping target regardless.

none, because the maps weren’t designed in the aspect of being able to Walljump, Wallrun, or Ledge-Grab.
also, no strafejumping.

Maybe this could be added in another poll on movement. Also i would poll strafe-sprint and/or stamina bar.

I have been able to find a video about circle jump, just to make sure we are talking about the same thing. Is it this?

I would highly wish for at least this type of circle jump, since it enables the good old type of movement style with circular crosshair movement, which is so damn sexy to watch.

ETQW ramping + Brink mantling and wall hops are strangers to me, have also not been able to find videos on it. Maybe elaborate a bit more, would be great :slight_smile:

i dont think that smth “unrealistic” would work today. mirrors edge system is good .

If you mean CJ, i think it is not entirely unrealistic. The accelaration when you chain those jumps together, that is unrealistic imo, but slolely CJ i always perceived as putting energy into the jump, your weight so to speak, and is what is used alot in the infights in W:ET (before, during, after, for getting small advantages in movement). It could make a great justification also in explaining that in an intro video.
