ADV: Rent a Server, or a Whole Computer ... It's Your Call!

([NG]Owner) #1

Looking for an ET server? You’ve found the right host.

Rental ET servers start at $24.99/mo. for a 12 man public server. Additional server sizes, up to 32 public slots, are also available at great pricing.

Looking for more control? Get a whole computer. Rental Rigs start at $99.99/mo. and come with complete shell access to the system and enough bandwidth to handle 50+ players across as many servers as you care to create. Control the entire computer remotely as if it were sitting right next to you.

Either way, availability is immediate. Pay today, play today.

Contact information can be found here.

Bah, set up fees and too many added fees.

([NG]Owner) #3

A $9.99 setup fee is too much? Lordy, tough crowd.

Too many added fees? How do you figure? The only added fees are for optional enhancements to the ET server. None of the enhancements are required for a great server. They just are available for furhter customization.

How much are you paying SD for the advertising space btw?

(EvilBaga) #5

Well if your servers are stable and you live up to your word…I got no beef with you advertising.
Sad that I live all the way in the middle east, with the highest Broadband Internet fees in the world :frowning:

The servers are stable and our word is our bond.

 Well at least he’s not trying to sell us penis enlargement pills… and as long as it’s limited to this one thread I really don’t see what the big deal is.

Well, it’s not this one thread:

If SD is okay with this, that’s up to them. Personally, I find it in rather poor taste to post commercial ads on a developer’s forum. Just one notch above herbal viagra spam. Therefore it’s definitely not a company I’d do business with.

(amazinglarry) #9

That explains why I thought it was just this one, I hadn’t seen the others before… wups.

If you want to advertise your servers, make a couple of good publics and sponsor some clans. But don’t spam it on boards in 4 different topics imho. Or at least spam it on a board where you can expect people to be interested in a Kansas, USA server. Like a Kansas ET community forum or something like that.

([NG]Owner) #11

Let’s see. I made posts in four threads.

The first one was in April of this year. I started that thread.
The second one was in June of this year. I also started that thread.
The third one was in another member’s thread asking about reasonably priced servers. I did not start that thread.
The fourth one was in July. I started this final thread (this is the one we are currently posting in).

Three instances of posting a service provided to the ET community in a three month period constitutes spamming? Once again,

Lordy, tough crowd/
None of the posts we made are offensive on face value. All titled appropriately to indicate a service was being offered. And none bumped obnoxiously to remain at the top of forum.

We do have test servers up running v1.01 (we like full servers!):

66.28.23.84
66.28.23.89

We don’t sponsor clans though. Over three years, we’ve learned that sponsorship of clans is a decidedly one way street. We do have a page on the subject though if you are interested: http://www.thenetgamer.com/sponsorship.php

Some of us see your posts on a number of other forums. They are all the same. You are using this, the etpro forum, et center etc. for free advertising. Taking advantage of a resource provided to the community to line your pockets. As it stands, this isn’t a huge issue. But think how it would be if every server hosting company posted what you did, once a month. Computer hardware vendors and ISPs would be just as on topic… After you think about that for a few moments, you may understand why some of us find the whole concept offensive.

Fortunately, most of the people who have this kind of stuff to sell have a little bit more tact than you, and actually pay for their advertising.

main ways to promote clanservers:
a. pay for site advertising, which keep community sites going (or shoutcasting if buying shoutcast airtime etc).
b. sponsoring clans, which helps and encourages clan community.
c. providing free public servers, helping the community.
d. word of mouth, which largely requires quality service etc (hence at least a positive thing for community).
e. posting for free on forums, which is perceived as leeching.

Any more questions on why people dont like the advertising threads?

Two well thought out posts.

I happen to disagree with some of the the conclusions, and the manner in which those conclusions are presented, but hey, that’s life. Life would be boring if we all thought the same way about things.

I’ve been posting advertisements in forums for well over three years. In every community I enter there is a small, but vocal, group in that community who reacts with some of the same kind of righteous indignation displayed in some posts here. It’s been our experience though that Those who are in a position to actually do something about posts advertising a particular good or service, at a minimum, tolerate the presence of gameserver hosts. Others welcome us, to the chagrin of the small and vocal minority.

In the final analysis, if you feel you won’t like the contents of the thread based on its title, don’t go in. Everything else is mental masturbation, tempest in a teapot, arguing on the Internet, drum beating and smokesignal sending, blowing smoke and hot air, … pick your metaphor.

I dislike the advertisements on the etpro forums, and have come >< close to deleting them; however, they aren’t strictly irrelevant and you haven’t posted there as many times, so I’ve let the threads live.
