[Admin stuff] How do you ban someone properly?

There’s this extremely annoying guy who’s only goal in life seems to be to ruin the fun of others and we can’t keep him away from our server. I banned him from inside the game, but that only means he can’t use that specific nick any more on our server. He has a truckload of them and keeps connecting under different names.

I tried to ban him with pb afterwards, but I probably did something wrong since he’s still visiting our server. This is the command I used:

pb_sv_banguid c0aa4d10 RonnieG 66.234.62.45 idiot

According to this page on the Evenbalance site the syntax should be:

PB_SV_BanGuid [guid] [player_name] [IP_Address] [reason]

What did I do wrong? Why doesn’t this stop him from joining our server? Should I use his full guid for this? Did I make some other error? As far as I know he has only one pbguid and he was still able to connect to our server with the same guid after I tried to ban that with pb. The fact that he was using the same guid was confirmed by others.

Any help would be appreciated cause I’m sick and tired of this guy. Here’s the “conversation” that took place when I banned him from within the game:

My apologies for posting that kind of language, but I wanted to illustrate why we don’t want this guy on our server. Here’s a list of his “hobbies”, this was posted by Buzzsaw on our forums:

"Here are some things he was doing,

Destroying our turrets, vehicles, deployables etc.
On MCP maps, he would drive the MCP backwards and attack it if anyone else is driving it
Drives MCP off cliffs to make it redeploy
Puts mines on the MCP so they blow up people trying to repair it when hit by enemy fire
Jumps in front of vehicles so he can file complains and get people kicked
Blocks doorways to prevent team from going through
Spams voice chat commands
Grabs the chopper and crashes it or flies it to a mountain so no one can use it
Grabs other important vehicles like Tanks and drives them off or blows them up
Shoots out tires from vehicles like the APC when they are driving
Repeteadly team wounding
Team kills several guys and reconnects after being kicked
Throws airstrike on team’s own defenses
Reconnects after numerous kickvotes
Curses non stop in english and spanish and says racist things all the time
A lot of “sexual” talk "

We hope you understand why we’re anxious to ban this guy for good. Perhaps it will convince some other admins to do some “pre-emptive” banning on their own servers. It would make the world a slightly better place.

Moderators: again, sorry for posting that kind of language on these forums. I’ll blot it out if you think I shouldn’t have done that.

He uses multiple IP addresses. Here’s the list from Pbbans:

Does this mean we would have to use PB_SV_BanMask to ban him?

PB_SV_BanMask “66.234.62” should do the trick?

PB_SV_Ban [name or slot #] [displayed_reason] | [optional_private_reason]
Removes a player from the game and permanently bans that player from the server based on the player’s guid (based on the cdkey); the ban is logged and also written to the pbbans.dat file in the pb folder

Get his guid (complete guid) from the server log and then pb_sv_banguid

well if he ever come back on ur server just go onto the HubLive via Pbbans and grab the ip then and Just ban him with that, and ban the guid aswell. But it will mean he will have to come back on ur server plus it works with our a reason as well

It’s a good start though no harm in starting there and seeing where it goes. If he works a way around it ramp up your criteria.

I have not personally seen anyone return from a ban using a full GUID so far, unless they use another CD key, but that’s another story and easy enough to deal with, eight keys is the record for our server and that was easily dealt with in eight ban commands.

Ahahaha Mariosixtyfour, I remembered him taking the disc all around the island on (shocking…) Island, and he kept saying it was a secret path/tactic while I was tking him…

Just get his IP, get his adress and go beat the crap out of him, its usually a better way against net kiddO

Thanks for all the help people, especially Trieb and Breo. They were both kind enough to send me a pm with the correct command to ban him based on his guid. Let’s hope that did the trick. If he finds ways to go around that, we’ll step it up and start to ban him based on his IP, but I’d feel kinda bad about doing that, since I might be blocking completely innocent players as well.

Seems like you do need to use the full guid, which is a bit of a bummer since we don’t have easy access to the server logs and that makes it hard to figure out what someones full guid is when we want to ban someone afterwards.
