acking disconnected download mode

is the above error due to ppl connecting with the new patch or have i mucked up my download redirect. i dont think it is that as i can connect and download all maps and pk3 files required for the server and so can some other players. i have wwwdldisconnect set to 0 and cant see why so many players are getting this msg … somone pls help…

they connect … have to download some files, and disconnect from the server while downloading (it’s a server option), so they don’t block a slot

nothing to worry about

([fun]scott) #3

yeah i thought i had it set correct with sv_wwwdldisconnect 0

The cvar is actually called sv_wwwDlDisconnected. Try that one in your server config and see if it helps.

Cheers.

yeah it is correct i jsut did that from memory

Hmmm, weird. The server should keep all downloading clients connected with that setting.

Could you execute the command:

cvarlist sv_www*

on the server to check if those cvars are actually set the way you think they are?

I believe we had this discussion a while ago (or maybe it was in shrub’s forum), anyway the most likely thing here is that the clients connect, they get redirected to the http download site and for some reason they do not finish the download.
These reasons are for example if the user cancels download by pressing escape, alternatively but I haven’t verified this yet is if they have cl_allowdownload set to 0 on their client, and a third option I can think of is if the webserver is “choked” and cannot deliver up the file for some reason.
Also the client may have connection problems or the map may change, but usually you get another error message in those cases (something with “ET 2.55 incorrect gametype” if I remember correctly from the top of my head).

If a majority of the players do get their maps downloaded correctly I wouldn’t worry about the server config
(Easily tested on yourself, just rename any map on your client and connect to your server)

Make sure you have ALL the .pk3 files in your remote server site. When the client hooks in and can’t find the needed pk3 then the client is sent to the backup URL (assuming you have enabled it) and from there they still can’t download the pk3 due to the fact it does not exist. That is what we found causes the “acking” error. Be sure to include any campaign pk3’s you might be playing with also. That is what we overlooked.

isn’t this simply the client telling the server that it is acknowledging (think syn/ack packets here) to drop to disconnected (from the server) mode to then go to the remote server to get the files and then reconnect.

if there is file transfer error, it really should be coming from a different source, ie. congested server, versioning conflict with the .pk3, or some such thing.

sorry iv not been keeping uptodate with this thread… i realised my misteak i forgot to add one pk3 into my etpro folder on the site so killed the connection if they were missing it.
