About the Strogg look...

(senator) #1

So, I was wondering… the Strogg look like biomechanical Frankensteins because they use human body parts to build new Strogg, ETQW replays the days of the first Strogg invasion… how comes that the Strogg are already made off of human bodies? Shouldn’t they be based on the anatomy of some alien race, which they used earlier as living replacement parts?

Where did they get their shiny human form from if this is their first visit to our planet?

Inquiery minds want to know

they’ve been doing body-snatching missions for years already. don’t you ever watch the news? =P

humanoid life forms exist througout the entire galaxy and beyond. don’t you watch stargate? they prolly were at anutha planet first

I recall Locki saying in one interview that ETQW retells the turning point battles of the original invasion, through which the at first outgunned humans manage it to repel the attack. These surely won’t take place during the beginning of the invasion, but rather around the middle till end. So by that time the Strogg already had amassed thousands of poor earthlings who stood no chance in the early battles.
… that would lead to the question why the Strogg started losing against the GDF right when they began to use stroggified humans …

On the other hand, as Joe999 already said, there could be humanoid life forms all over the galaxy. If I remember Quake 4 correctly it was said that the Strogg are left-over super-soldiers from an ancient war in another part of the galaxy. They probably got some McHuman drive-in there already… :nag:

Edit: Brrr, Wils was one minute faster … at least I was on the right track… :moo:

You might also ask ‘hey, how come if the map is just starting, the building in front of me is in ruins?’. The invasion’s already in progress at the start of ETQW’s timeline, and an essential part of the Strogg’s success is their ability to use their fallen enemy to boost their ranks. Transporting an army to defeat a planet of several billion inhabitants is no small task

How about letting the Strogg Native adorn themselves with trophies like the skulls and spines of the Global Defense Force? Decked out in more noticable GDF bones as the Strogg player ranks up. Then apply the Havok physics to them.

Anything global deserves nothing short brutality. Man has never been able to rule himself. To disolve sovereign borders on a notion of trust is irresponsible and opening the doors to be exploited. It also shifts power into a centralized control with the ability to determine the fate of everyone. The same benefits and aid a brotherhood can give can be given by nations with sovereign identities and rights. Im sure many of man haad good inentions many times in each of his kingdoms. Making a brotherhood does nothing but achieve power and control. The brotherhood is infinitely flawed. They deserve to be anhilated by the Strogg invasion for their arrogance. Atleast the Strogg dont hide their intentions and know full well the risks. Pesky GDF. All seeing and never knowing. Let the invasion begin!

Hmmm, but that still leaves us with the part where the Strogg first arrived at Planet Earth, at that point they probably looked different because they still had to use some alien lifeform body and not our pretty shells, and they probably stacked up some ‘spare parts’, in case one of this bodies ‘malfunctioned’

So, wouldn’t it be a cool Lvl4 Strogg reward to beeing granted a respawn (once only) in an alien body with some special abilities (extra fast sprinting + vicious melee attacks, or stealth abilities, or…)? You could even make it borderline overpowered, as you have to level up high enough to get this super-body first, and after beeing killed have to respawn in a human body again… would be pretty cool I imagine

The GDF could get some other Lvl4 extra one-time-only reward, like an extra tough tank or such… well, probably already too late in the development of the game to implement and test such things, but maybe a modder will pick up the idea

They need stroggified tapirs.

(Nail) #9

:stroggtapir: <------ like this one ?

(The Pope) #10

I was thinking of a fire breathing robotapir with a jetpack. Though I guess if the strogg had tapirs, they would have won the war so it doesn’t really fit in with the storyline.

(Gringo) #11

Oh, u mean like this

:tapir:*******************

(Flesh) #12

Can anyone explain to me where do the Strogg actualy come from? And who is that Makron (whats the spelling?) guy that is leading them?

Ha! It would be pretty amusing if gaining experience with the strogg meant that you unlocked a better version of the strogg.

For example after getting 200XP you get the model of a gunner, but after 500XP you get one of a gladiator.

Something for a mod perhaps.

(Danyboy) #15

not a great idea -

a gladiator is much larger than a standard soldier and the new hit box would have to increase to match the new model. Making yourself an easier target from further away.

(I3LiP) #16

I wasn’t being serious.

But presumably if a mod DID do that, you’d have more HP/Armour to compensate for it :stuck_out_tongue:
