about the preorder stuff

(Joe999) #1

it sucks. seriously. i’m also buying it at day 0, but i’m old school and want my hard copy. and i want the game from the shop. at day 0. i don’t want to depend on the lazy mail delivery man or amazon. wouldn’t be the first game for which i had to wait 3 weeks because someone lost it somewhere and they had to search for it.

so may i suggest to add another “preorder” bonus: day-0 package. ie would you please be kind enough to add a coupon to the retail game which lets you claim preorder similar stuff within the 1st week or sth?

and please make it the wolf:et or et:qw pack, because that one is clearly missing! kthx!

I’ll probably buy digital first and get hardcopy on sale =p

did he say pre-order next week? [1:30]

(LyndonL) #3

Can I please ask the benefit in wanting it on hardcopy?

It’s Steam mandatory anyway and so the game will be locked to whatever account it is activated on, so you can’t use the excuse that Steam can’t be trusted.
Steam allows you to “Backup” game files to DVD anyway, so the “Having to redownload it if the computer blows up” excuse is moot.
And finally, as with almost all games these days, I’m sure there will be patches released within the first few months anyway, so the “hardcopy” will be useless on it’s own (since Steam requires you to have the latest version of the game to play it).

Back on topic.

i like collecting stuff.

if i’d go download only i might as well pirate every game and movie i buy, would save me a lot of money. i wouldn’t need steam for that.

But that’s illegal.

You can also steal dvd at store, rob a bank etc., it will save you a lot of money.

About those preorder ****, I hope that you’ll be able to unlock them after a while if you didn’t pre ordered the game.

(Susefreak) #8

I doubt they will repackage the game just for those pre-orders, so I’m guessing it’ll be reversed pretty quickly.

(Joe999) #9

so is showing porn to minors and yet it’s free for everyone to watch on the internet.

they’re trying to get one category of customers while they’re alienating another one. and it’s getting worse. they’re making different preorder packages per retailer. so sales might also depend on what people prefer more: the fallout pack or the doom pack?

people who get hardcopies are buying games too and support the company. are they not entitled to a bonus? obviously not.

i’m sorry, but this preorder $#!T doesn’t make any sense to me.

(Global_Insaneo) #10

I like pre-order bonus content. But I have to admit having different content from different retainers does suck a bit. I personally always pre-order with game as they always get it to me a day early. But If they have a crap pre-order set I may go elsewhere?

Surely the company I chose to shop with should be decided on good customer service/standards and not because I likethe look of one bonus over another?

Just need to sit here now and wait for uk companies to announce who doing what here?

Rant over :stroggbanana:

edit : yes i like breaking ze forum.

(tsnyder700) #12

I’m just going to buy it at the store.

(SockDog) #13

Have to say it’s a little disappointing that to get all the content you’d have to buy multiple copies of the game. Sort of a situation where you accept to be screwed or accept the content has little value. Guess we just need to be glad it’s just skins and not anything more substantial.

Talking of retail bonuses? What if you just buy directly from Steam? With Amazon frequently doing $10-$20 gift cards on new games I’d expect Steam would need more than the regular 10% off for pre-orders.

(kamikazee) #14

They could perfectly ship a DVD ahead of time if it works the same as the Orange box. In that particular case, the DVD contained an install of Steam, a README.txt and Steam’s game-install files. There is no install for the game as it needs to be picked up by the Steam client, hence the README just says “install steam, eject dvd, start steam and log in. Insert DVD and enter keycode - presto”.

Those game-install files are are not entirely unlike Firefox’s “.part” files: they contain an encrypted copy of the final game’s data files, but incomplete, as if you only downloaded the game for 99%. The final 1% of data can contain updated game DLL’s and such, and you can’t play the game without it.

Result: you can get the game data at day zero, download a small payload from some special pre-order server and start playing while the others are still downloading their game.

Joystiq is coveringthis news now, too.

Looks awesome, actually. Being in Japan, it is a little frustrating that I won’t have access to either of those offers, even though I have already pre-ordered four copies of the game. lol

Also, to Bethesda/Splash Damage people who have any connection to marketing and shipping, please note, as of yet, there is no “Asian” 360 version being listed yet.

(Nail) #16

its just skins, I like the fact theyre not offering new weapons or abilities, just graphics

(potkettleblack) #17

The SpecOps package and the Psycho package offer guns as well as attachments.

(LyndonL) #18

The SpecOps and The Psycho packs actually contain new weapons - The Hockler Machine Pistol and the Caesar Revolver respectively.

I doubt that they offer a great deal off discernable difference though anyway except perhaps sound and look, given the amount of care SD talk about dedicating to balance.

(Joshua Morrison) #19

Yeah I think that this steps over the line, because now it’s not only are you screwed for not buying a game you probably have never played…but your screwed for not getting it at the right store… wtf

(LyndonL) #20

I’d say blame Bethesda… being as it’s pretty much the same as what they’ve done with Fallout New Vegas… Some new marketing campaign they’re trying out. I wonder what the stores think about it, whether they’re annoyed that they could potentially lose (let’s be honest, only a small amount) customers because of it.
