? about random MSL redirects to *(S)TAATS$CHUTZ.0rgXPSAVE

(NoGooD) #1

So like the title says, on occasion when I go into ET and try to connect to a server from the Master Server List, I am suddenly redirected to begin downloading some pk3’s from the *(S)TAATS$CHUTZ.0rgXPSAVE redirect server.

This has happened more than a few times, and by trying to connect various servers. I AM NOT MISCLICKING on the MSL.

Whats strange about this to me are a few things.

  1. It attempts to find a file called etnain.pk3.

  2. When etnain is not found, it sends me to *STAATSCHUTZ.0rg to download some files.

  3. While looking through the mod folder .pk3, I came across a file in the ___ue061024.pk3 called inshlp.dat

Inside this .dat file are a grouping of other files

Now if I’m not mistaken, that InstExpl.wcx file is some type of remote desktop software correct?

I’m wondering if anyone else has had this experience? I just find it weird that no matter what, at random intervals your connected to the *(S)TAATS$CHUTZ.0rg server instead of your original pick

If you would have used google you would know cmdtotal.exe is a tool to extract setup packages (http://www.kakeeware.com/i_cmdtotal.php) and not “some type of remote desktop software”. Now go stand in the corner.

Damn, I was hoping to come here and perhaps get an answer as to why I keep getting redirected to this guys server, but instead I got the SD douchebag welcome wagon.

I completely confess to my ignorance with any type of modding, coding etc. About the only code I’m familiar with are ID-10T user errors.

I’m also not trying to bash STAATS$CHUTZ. The mod looks pretty cool, and obviously the guy has put alot of work into it. However I don’t like being randomly redirected to his server when I’m trying to play another server. I was vaguely aware his server existed until I was redirected to it while trying to connect to another server. Although going to play some pub or pro, and end up seeing a covert ops in a g-string isn’t a terrible thing, lol.

My apologies for not researching that .wcx file further. However when I did do a quick google, I came across this thread for it, as well as what you listed dutchman. http://www.spydig.com/file-diagnosis/InstExpl-wcx.html

Here’s what that site has to say about it

InstExpl.wcx Automatic Detection(Free online spyware scan)
WARNING: InstExpl.wcx file can be used by hackers to compromise your computer. To prevent your computer’s security and privacy from any risk, you are recommended to run a scan immediately on your computer to detect any spyware threats.

So perhaps someone else can help me out. It’s happened about 10-12 times, clicking on various servers in the MSL. It seems to be pretty random, and I’ve tried to recreate it several times to take video, but no luck yet. One thing I haven’t done yet is to verify the IP of the servers I’m connecting to prior to each time I connect. Like most people I just see them in the MSL, and click on it.

I’ve tried removing the ultraet mod folder from my etmain, but it still happens. Any help would be appriciated.

if you are using the ingame server list they might be ‘fake’ servers.
There are quite a few server that have like 31/32 players all the time, then when you try to connect to them you are redirected to a different server.
They are just tricking the serverlist into thinking it’s a real server, but actually they just redirect. (not a real server)
I remember there being a discussion about it a few months ago.
My best advice would be to try and look for servers on www.splatterladder.com
Then ingame open the console and type /connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
If it still occurs then give us a buzz.

Before you make any silly conclusions, go to your etmain folder and delete all pk3 files whose names start with a ~ or a z (e.g. ~~~~~~.pk3 or ~~custom****.pk3 or zzzzzzzz_gun.pk3). Then repeat to every single mod folder.

These are gay customizations to the mod, replacing stuff like menus etc. - as far as I know, the ~ -files replace “globally” and the z -files replace only when they are called upon on the server (e.g. custom soundpacks). It might be some stupid menu customization which replaces the behaviour of the connect button to something that connects to their (the ones who made this gay customization) server. I’ve seen those.

Also I’ve seen some customizations that don’t start with a ~ or z but still behave like those - they’re trickier to remove, you need some brain for this: go to through the ET folders etc and remove everything that is not a map or a game/mod pk3. Basically you’re looking for odd random files with a filesize of a couple of kilobytes.

Some retarded serveradmins feel the urge to change the main menu to look like **** and basically act like malware sometimes preventing people from connecting anywhere but their server. I suggest you connect to random servers with cl_allowdownload 0 in the future - if you need to download something from there, it disconnects you with a list of the files you’ll need so you can analyze that list for “bad packets”.
