I didn’t like the part where he kept trying to escape, even though his mates had to take the consequences.
<------ Grandfather fought on Omaha Beach on D-Day, one of the first landing craft, continued to fight throughout the whole war…Miracle he survived really, never EVER talked about the war though, I wouldn’t either, if I saw what he did…just block it out, the only way you can keep going…

<-------- Grandfather was captured before America even got involved in the War, but if he wasn’t captured I doubt I would be here (well with my current mix of genomes anyway) as he met my grandmother in the Czech village that the prisoners would do work in.
He was shot in the leg with a mobile MG before being captured, I haven’t asked if it was a MG42 or not 
… and my Grandfather told me a story of a time he shot a poor captured soldier in the leg when he was cleaning his mg…
