Hi,
You’re allways welcome.
Up to 64 players on a server should work, though 16vs16 (which makes 32 players) should be the max for regular pub play.
I know I need a new PC. A Geforce 1 can’t handle it any longer.

have u tried Enemy Territory? i’ve heard it pwnz, at least they say so :)[/quote]Nah… I’ve looked around here and there but Wolfinestine (sp?) didnt do it for me - I purchased the the updated version by ID a long while back
but it just didnt strike me to want to play online anymore.
Neither did Q3 or the mods for it.
I played Q3 for awhile but then just was burnt out of the whole entire FPS thing.
I did however dive into EverQuest for a long long period after my FPS drive faded.
Took that as far as I could raiding end game content among some of the Best of the best - but eventually lost my drive to continue just before WoW was released.
EQ2 is just pure junk and unfinished content with crap support and bait and switch promises from SOE.
I’m rebuilding to take another shot into the FPS world again - I just liked the ETQW trailer and what Ive read about it - its Amazing!
Even after spending the money on my new system - its still not a waste, because I can try whatever else is out there to pass the idle time when I’m bored and want to play an online game
forget wolf. i tried it as well, i didn’t even finish the first level. just try enemy territory. this game has everything a gamer heart could want. try it, it’s free, it’s fun, it’s one of the best games i’ve ever played. it’ll entertain you easily til quake wars comes out. if i could only remember the company that created it … :uhoh:
i didn’t like wolf, i didn’t like quake either. funny thing i like ET and for sure will like QW. i guess it all depends on how it’s all served.
btw halfapple, ET has awesome real life graphics on a good enough rig:
j/k
For halfapple, some answers:
DX10 support in graphics cards is something that can only be done by hardware and not by driver. So in this case you willl need to get another card later to support DX10 yes. So the 7950 really wont support DX10. If you want to just save some money to buy the real graphics card when DX10 is out the 7600GT is best performance/price and would run ET:QW fien for 6 months, if you want some more performance the 7900GT would be fine. DX10 is only supported by Windows Vista as it seems right now. DX10 cards are expected begin 2007 with the launch of Vista probably. Ive already heard about ATI, but nVidia will release one aswell by then without a doubt. Your mainboard will support DX10 cards. It only sends the information, the card does all the DX10 magic so that wont be a problem.
And Joe999, Vista wasnt that bad when i saw it on a mid-end laptop, aero was running great. And remember its still in beta. I know you like Linux more.
nope, i don’t like linux, linux is unusable imo. i want to use the OS, not learn how it works in it’s core. problem i have with vista is xp: nothing’s wrong with xp. but M$ want to make money, so they create a new OS with the same features n apps as in the previous OS and hide everything other than it was in the previous OS so that you can’t find it and so that it looks like something new. vista’s gui is ugly, the windows n such are in the user’s eye, not the client area of the window. i had 4 windows open and thought: wtf? i’ve lost overview. i don’t need shiny crystal buttons, i wanna use the OS. problem is if you switch back to classic mode then it doesn’t fit. everything is designed for the new look. and it’s slow. damn slow. i’m currently trying to get rid of it, but the bootmanager of my dual boot sys is in vista, so simply deleting the partition doesn’t work.
gonna try it again when a release candidate comes out. it has no use before, at least not for me.
I guess with all that features (e.g. WinFS) canceled Vista will be more like Win XP SP5 with DRM …
Uh, anyone who suggests that RtCW isn’t a great game is not to be trusted. Sorry, but it’s one of the best games ever.
That said, new players can probably skip it and go straight to W:ET. The MP is nearly dead except for a few of diehards who would likely make a new player want to uninstall anyway. That’s the problem with getting into any old game late.
The singleplayer is a blast though and always worth playing. I still run through it maybe once a year just for the nostalgia. Then again, I still play Q1, D1, and even Wolf3D on occasion. I love the old classics.
Long live B.J. Blazkowicz!
i didn’t say it’s not a great game, i said i didn’t like it
dunno, maybe it’s because i first got in touch with ET, then i thought i’d try the single player and run through Wolf easily with a headshot orgy … but i didn’t warm up with it. i can’t get warm with most of the recent single players out there … and i blame it all to SD
same applies to D3 & Q4. D3 was new and fun to play once and had it’s awesome shocking moments, but it has no replay value for me, it’s too boring for my taste. Q4 was same as D3, first i quit after level 3, then i tried again and quit at level 16. it’s just too boring. as i said before in another thread: the id games recently have the same recipe level for level: enter a room with a machine, kill everything, find a rather “stupid” way (erm … pads?) to open the door to the next room with a machine, enter it, kill everything, and so on …
some of course like that type of retro gameplay with nextgen graphics, but we have 2006 and i think we can expect more gameplay. i think quake wars is what i’m searching for.
there are two games out there which currently catch my attention: crysis for single player and quake wars for multi player. and then there’s all the Wii stuff. does anyone know more exceptional stuff worth mentioning?
1st: Insert WindowsXP boot cd
2nd: Enter recovery console
3rd: Hit the number of the WindowsXP installation
4th: Login with admin password
5th: type “fixmbr”
6th and final: delete the Vista partition
thanks for the help, i’ve just read that this is the official way:
anyway, i better take the time and still make a ghost image of my old sys first according to the 3 rules of electronic data processing
Thanks “Para” for the suggestion - I think I’ll just settle for the time being a lower grade card =( , until the DX10 line is released.
Its ok tho, it will save me some money until then.
I really wanted to run two 7950’s hoping that the DX10 would be compatible with them.
Perhaps nVidia will have a DX10 card that is able to run in SLi as well by that time.
I hope they do - I just would like to build a beast of a machine this time around.
Seeing as I most likely won’t be getting vista until I get a new PC (I’ve never bought windows, I always upgrade with my PC) and I won’t be getting a new PC until I need one (i.e, there are a lot of good games out that require a major GPU or processor update etc) I won’t have to switch out my dual 7800GTs for a while.
Plus when I do I can sell them off for a bit.
Didn’t know you wanted 2x 7950. I don’t even know wether it is possible (altough Dell has a system with 4 graphics cards). The 7950 is basicly 2x 7900GT or GTX (dont know what of teh 2) in SLI mode on 1 card with a little downclock to prefent overheating. What I know is that quad-SLI is sometimes bad as there is no support yet and can cause a lower framerate than simple SLI (with 2 cards). Ive also seen older games getting lower framerates in SLI than with 1 card. So I would recommend when you buy it, to look in some reviews/benchmarks at anandtech/tomshardware or something else to see what the better option is.
