A strange problem with my mouse

(Beans) #1

Up until recently I used a Microsoft Intellipoint mouse for wolf and ET but after 3 years of loyal service it bit the bullet so after much umming and ahhing I bought an mx500. It works like a dream but I’ve had to program my mouse buttons to do other functions (Rather than the MS ones which I could do as prgram specific functions) anyways I’m using one button as shift and another as ctrl but when I press them, to change weapon I get a fraction of a second of being able to see through walls like so:

It doesn’t do it on normal rtcw, just ET. The problem being that as I managed to get a screenshot of it a server admin could also do so and mistake it for a wallhack and ban me for something I have no control over. Any idea of a remedy? As you can see by the “shift” at the bottom I was using one of the programed buttons.

Does it happen when you press the buttons on the keyboard ?

But that is really weird

P.S. Got enough snipers?? (At least they aren’t having “Sex on the beach”, if you know what i mean :moo:

What graphics card do you use?

(Jack) #5

Hmm, there isn’t an Hsync in ET is there?

Did you install DX 9? Run a DXdiag from the run menu ( if you use windows) and see if anything is flagged.

I’ve just tried the keyboard buttons and they work fine. Graphics card is a Radeon 9600 but that worked fine with my old mouse too so I really can only place the blame on the mx500 especially with the appearance of the shift or ctrl at the lower right hand side of the screen. And DXdiag found nothing wrong at all

are you really seeing thru walls ?
it looks like the cliff faded out, Im not sure I am seeing thru anything …

(Snipe) #8

Ive noticed with the compound wall in fueldump that if you switch to the limbo menu and back you have a brief second of seethroughability I put this down to it being a “destroyable” object and didnt think too much of it till now. Is the object you are seeing through destroyable or interactive in anyway(team door etc)? This could be an opengl initializing thing where the hotkey program takes focus for half a sec requiring opengl to redraw some objects. Im using a radeon 9700 with the latest drivers and win2k sp4 dx9.

I’ve often noticed that when I turn the corner in the tunnel in fueldump that the tunnel door is transparent. That seems to be just an issue with destroyable objects in general. That’s not the case here, though. The walls of the forward bunker certairly aren’t destroyable.

This looks like the infamous ‘msn wallhack’ from RTCW. It seems that having another window pop up over the game screws up z-buffering on some cards.

(Majin) #11

I have stuff pop up all the time and it doesn’t do anything like this;/

(BlackDeath) #12

whatever the hell pops up, i want it :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe someone from SPLASH DAMAGE can help us? :poke:

Hmmm, it’s sounding like a case of having to live with it then and trying to forget what I see for that split second of time and not just running away when I know there’s a group of the enemy heading towards me.

Depends on video card, and possibly drivers. If it is a hardware/driver issue, there is likely nothing splash can do about it.

At long distances 16 bit color (actually 16 bit z-buffer, but the two usually go together) can let you see through walls, especially when zoomed in. Again, this is fundamental to the way the software works, and can’t really be fixed.
