I second that!

After reading through this topic… I went to watch some ET competitions on youtube.
One thing I noticed about objective carry missions. To carry the objective, you always have to get through a contested area to get the objective and out of it again, or maybe you have to deliver it somewhere in that area. Goldrush with the big plaza, in radar - its not so obvious, but there is a second spawn near truck for axis, cutting of the short route.
Only custom maps make an exception to this. There is for example bremen, which is a bit different - in that “the contested area” can be pretty much under allies control once they got the CP, but nonetheless an excellent map, with great replay value.
In most of the W:ET maps, you either take the risky short route, through the contested area or take the long route through a safer route, but then the defenders can prepare a defence at the drop off. (Frostbite, Bremen, Special delivery, adlersnest,…)

For these objective ideas and the ideas about the C4 I think you should make a new topic.

Not sure if you agree to what I am saying or not …lol.

Haha, I do agree. I was just saying it’s even present in Bremen.

Why does that look so slow?

(stealth6) #265

You’d have to be more specific, but some suggestions:

 • Things always look slower when you’re watching them compared to doing them imo. (I’m reminded of: “I could do that, hold my beer”) For instance watch TJ vids, they look so peaceful / easy. But when you’re doing it yourself you realize how much control they have + split second reaction times.
 • Longer TTK
 • Tactical gameplay with a more defensive style. They aren’t just running in like a headless chicken. (If you die at the wrong moment, you’re down for 20 seconds)

Because ET isn’t as fast as some people would like you to believe, and probably the FOV that movie was recorded at isn’t the same as it was played at.

(ailmanki) #267

maybe you played the game with fov 120 - which makes it appear quite fast. But could be many other things actually as steath6 mentions.

dunno how I managed to post twice… besides kendle already posted it, but did not see it. :confused:

(Anti) #269

I think it’s probably the FOV, but I only play at 100 myself so even if this is 90 I’d kind of expect it to be faster.

I dunno, just wondered, I recall it being much faster than this last time I played, and you folks make it sound 1000 times as fast :smiley:

(maxxxxlol) #270

his thompson kill at 0:44 makes me sad. crouches, fires 4 bullets gets 3 headshots and a kill. try doing that in db. game feels so bad in comparison.

(pulley) #271

You mean 2 headshots… 3 Headshots is DB with FO… But sure there is to much spread atm… It just feels soooooo wrong

(maxxxxlol) #272

not sure what you mean? he gets 3 headshots. I know fops in db is similar but it still feels retarded in every way.

It’s why you need to play the game :slight_smile: I told you guys a thousand times already, make a Developer Friday of W:ET every week. At least one hour. Live by example, rather than our words. There is really not much more to say, we guys really tried to tell you what we like about the movement system of W:ET and why we would love to see it in DB, rather than what we currently have.

The way i see this video is from map design and movement system pov, the two biggest issues with DB currently (imo).

You guys have so much great ideas for the characters and gameplay aspects of DB, it really wouldn’t hurt setting that up on a base game with similar fundamentals as W:ET. In these important parts you really managed to create a poor game from my perspective, and all the nice things you add on top of it are not going to help i feel.

I absolutely agree with you acQu! Furthermore I’m still convinced that movement (strafe jumping) is the most important point or what will differ the game from other shooters.

Get the core elements right first, before adding features!

Other games have strafe-jumping, other games don’t have complex class-dependent objectives. It’s not a core element.

It’d be nice to have of course, but SD have already stated Quake style strafe jumping is not going to happen, get over it. :slight_smile:

(tokamak) #276

That’s because all our discussions use the following assumptions:

Faster=better
ET=Better

Therefore:
ET=Faster

(acQu) #277

Yeah, but define “fast” :slight_smile: Dying fast?, then i play alot of fast games :smiley:

Are my eyes deceiving me? Never seen so many “clients” online.
Did SD open the gates? Or did a lot of past players feel the urge to connect this very moment?

I think they would have made an announcement if they let in this much ppl … would they not ?

Rtcw/et never had quake style strafe jumping. How about we get rtcw/et strafe jumping that actually took skill to master and became apart of the game. I guess you could call it circle strafing? I just wish they’d remove the slow down penalty of jumping, and no sprinting while reloading, game would be more fun to me. All the slow down is ridiculous for a classic arcade type shooter that you are trying to advertise to us.
