The “F key” has nothing to do with the ability to plant your C4 freely.
A recent lack of activity?
Still, the F key influenced SD’s decision to make C4 not freely plantable. Because if you don’t have the F key, then you must have C4 on a number (5 or 6 for example), and select it before you arm, making it selectable at anytime of the game. It would have been awkward to be able to get C4 everywhere but not plant it everywhere … thus the console-inspired, gameplay-blocking F key.
But that’s only if I understand things right
Imo you can’t plant freely, because of that nice first person animation with the touch screen ^^ It imo does not fit in the concept to do a touch screen animation while running around, hence you have to stand still and enjoy ^^
If it is a concept which should enforce decission making of you (for example: ‘do i plant now and risk it or do i first clear the path’), then i think it is not so fun. In W:ET if you had a split second free, you could pre-plant it, then you could wait and see if someone is coming, if path clear, you can begin the arming process, if someone comes, you can quickly pull your weapon and react; imo just way mooore fun
as opposed to the ‘totally serious’ concept (if this is really the case) behind not being able to plant freely. But as said, i think it is just because of the animation

I think you understood the whole thing wrong. What’s the difference between having the C4 on the F key or on a number of your choice? The F key is just another option of selecting the needed “thing” if you are close to an objective. QW offered both options and wasn’t a console game at all. I personally would really miss the F key usage for objectives, as it’s faster than scrolling through everything you got.
what if the started plant c4 stay for eg 10 sec more with the amount of % left to armed…so someone could finish the job ?
I understood it right, but I link it to the F key … when I say I want freedom of gameplay with the C4 it’s about being able to plant it where I want, and not only for objectives. We defend the same idea for this, but mutually didn’t understood each other haha
Now the F key is another problem
Sorry rookie, but I understood only this part of your post XD. But that’s exactly what we want! (I’ve been saying this for a long time now, already even opened a thread for it)

Glad you understood what I tried to say, because the F key is nothing bad at all.
Don’t confuse usability with simplification. I find it good that there is a quick ability button rather than disco dancing on my keyboard to select a medkit, then throw the medkit, then select my weapon. As long as that key doesn’t misinterpret my intention it’s doing nothing more than a keybind script always used to.

… i wil edit …at least you understood me :)…i got the most important
I strongly agree with you. The way planting works right now makes you feel like a sitting duck waiting to be killed at the moment an enemy comes around the corner. This in combination with the slow movement gives you a little chance to defend. It’s less fun and makes you feel like a fool. While you could think 10 years of new technologies in the games industry should allow for more limits to be breached we get new limits.
Even with the F key available, I still go disco on my keyboard when I play DB ^^
Yup, actually the more i think about it and start to make up what-if cases of assumptions about the thought process of the design, then it leads me to this case here => ‘what if this is a functional concept (= in this special case i mean with that a design with the intention to open lots of strategical thinking for the player) rather than a dependency concept like ‘we have to do it because we want to play the animation’’. But then again, when i compare it to the free float dynamite design of W:ET, i can make up sooooo many, imo legit, cases where it is a huge advantage of having a free float design; it simply opens up soooo many options; well not that many, but still, DB really somehow manages to dumb down the paths of options in so many cases, it is really exceptional
Simply what goes through your brain (option-wise) by just sitting in stuckage-mode compared to what goes through your brain when freely planting should be enough arguments to decide for free float design
And that worries me alot actually, i really hope this is not a ‘functional design’
the reason why i dont play that much in the last time is:
-
public is totally senseless in this game, the only reason why i played pub in QW for example is to do MY THING ON MY OWN, get 75 kills / round and ****ing rape dat hard. --> not possible in dirty bomb, after the new build medic is unplayable on pub without communication, means for me --> public is NO FUN
-
there is no comp scene yet
-
lame map design
The worst thing with all the objectives right now is that I release the key (be it mouse1 or F) and I’m still flipping doing the objective!
Some sort of double tap dance is required to escape the animation.
It’s simple, press down to start, release key to stop.
Of course pre-selectable C4, moving whilst planting, resume existing plants and multiple person arming should all be possible as well.

I would prefer any key cancels. If I hit 1 or strafe or whatever I get off the objective and the only negative is I have to wait the .4 seconds for my gun to come out or what I underlined in your post.
I find it easier punching myself in the brain then reading some of the posts from people on here anymore. Sigh.
Must be quite hard for you to find the tools needed to complete that though.
Why are you not playing as much right now?
Look outside it ****ing lovely! (that and I took a couple of paintballs to my left hand this weekend).
I second that!
After reading through this topic… I went to watch some ET competitions on youtube.
One thing I noticed about objective carry missions. To carry the objective, you always have to get through a contested area to get the objective and out of it again, or maybe you have to deliver it somewhere in that area. Goldrush with the big plaza, in radar - its not so obvious, but there is a second spawn near truck for axis, cutting of the short route.
Only custom maps make an exception to this. There is for example bremen, which is a bit different - in that “the contested area” can be pretty much under allies control once they got the CP, but nonetheless an excellent map, with great replay value.
While in Dirtybomb, it seems much simpler. The contested area is mostly the place where the objective is, and it is very small, like the bank in goldrush itself, without the outer plaza. Lastly once you have the objective there ain’t many ways to go. There is no need to defend the objective carrier, either he makes it or not, and if not - lets just try again with next. Well exception to this might be, where the objective is in safe area, but has to be delivered in the hot zone; there I guess people cover the carrier. But for the rest, it seems like the biggest difficulty is getting in.
