A new problem with TK/revive in ET

(Kendle) #21

@bani, thanks for putting my right there, I couldn’t remember, haven’t played RTCW for weeks.

@coolhand, sorry but I’m with Bani. What name to you play under? cos I’d refuse to help you if you took the “no TK under any circumstances” attitude with me, and I often am the only Medic on my team. Meds have to make best use of their packs, and I’m not going to give anyone 4 packs when I could TK/revive and give them 2. It’s no more inconvenience to the TK/revived player than if they waited for 4 packs.

(Coolhand) #22

Kendle, I usually play under the name “Coolhand” (oddly enough). As I’ve said before, I don’t file complaints for TK/revives (I used to, months ago, until I realised how many people believed that TK/revive was a good idea). I understand that those who TK/revive do it because they believe that it’s the right thing to do.

As for the 4packs/2packs and the whole “math-challenged” thing, any ET medic worth his salt will level up really fast and will have a lot more than 4 packs to give out. So what if it might take a little longer to heal someone up to full? The plus side of this (and something else that all pro-TK/revivers seem to conveniently ignore) is that the person being treated will be able to cover both players since he won’t be suffering from “OMG-I’ve-been-hit-where’s-the-bad-guy-oh-it’s-OK-it’s-a-medic-ummm-WTF-was-I-trying-to-do-just-now-I’ve-forgotten-because-I-was-shot”.

[edit] The last thing any of us needs is a lot of new players running around practising TK/revives because they aren’t yet good enough to get better first aid skills… :frowning:

(Kendle) #23

Fair enough, as long as the TK/revived don’t complain. I’m never going to be convinced it’s a “bad thing” though. I’ve played 100’s of Clan wars as Medic and I know TK/revive is both a viable and a desirable “tool” in the Medic’s repotoire (sp?), and I, like most good Medics, know exactly when to use it and when not to.

It’s a bit of an academic issue with E.T. at the moment though, because people mostly do complain, so I’d probably limit it to players I know, plus, as you say, at higher skill levels you seem to have an unlimited supply of Med packs anyway so maybe it’s less of a “tool” in E.T than it was in RTCW.

(bani) #24

actually its more of a tool in ET than it ever was, since if youre out of charge you can tk-revive to full health.

and any good medic is going to be dishing out medpacks like theres no tomorrow. any medic running around constantly charged up isnt doing their job.

i played on a passworded ET server recently, everyone was an experienced rtcw/et veteran. tk-revive was used a LOT.

(Englander) #25

WELL SAID!!!

TK/Revives work fine on ET,just got to know when and when not to do them,IMO theres no difference worth mentioning to the TK/revive in RTCW.

And as Bani says in another post ,since medics are capable of TK/Reviving you to full energy without using any packs ,it seems obvious a medic with any brains will use this method.

(Kendle) #26

Good point. Can’t wait for the day when I can happily TK/revive without getting complaints filed.

(Coolhand) #27

Exactly.

… but I can see that my comments are falling on deaf ears, so I’ll crawl back into my hole.

GL & HF everyone

I can’t believe people would actually complain about being TK/revived. Unless it is done at the absolutely worst time where you both end up getting killed what’s the problem? I rarely TK/revive someone when they are facing away from me but I have on occasion when I thought it was advantageous to wasting all my med packs on them. If they had the nerve to complain about it I’d probably TK and gib them. Then they’d have something real to complain about…

(BoneZ) #29

I never complain cause my popup is turned off.

Bad things about TK revive

  1. new players who don’t understand your trying to be effecient who complain.

  2. Effects the players Battle sense XP

  3. Tap out bug

Good things

  1. Saves medpacks and time, sometimes you just don’t have the time under a big rush to med somebody up, or maybe you have to med 2 or 3 people up and have limited medpacks to go around.

  2. in combo with full revevive needles under the same situation above you
can get everyone full very quickly, sometimes this can be enough to save a game.

I think it has more use in clan play then it does in pubs, lately because of complaints and the above list of negetives I tend to let people who are really low on health get shot by the enemy if i can manage it, i just wait nearby and get em right when they die, this way i still save medpacks and they don’t get screwed outta battle sense. Sometimes it doesn’t work out as well as a TK revive would have though. If they are about half health i will just toss em some packs.

For the most part I quit playing on newbie servers a long time ago. It was shortly after I discovered OLTL and so-called ‘expert’ servers where the newb/rambo/asshole tolerance level is usually very low. If someone complains about a TK/revive we simply vote them off the island. Usually it is quite effective.
It is a server cvar that Xian added… g_fastres should work in vanilla or OSP. don’t know if it still exists in ET.
It was the 1.33 patch for RTCW where Xian added it in.

Seems to be working in ET… it certainly is an available cvar and it
does seem to make revives quicker (in a quick test).

:bump:

Hey, why shouldn’t I bump a thread I’m interested in? The mechanics of the forum allow it, therefore I can use it :stuck_out_tongue:

Besides, there are probably scores of new players who haven’t yet seen silicon slick’s gf

(Hanlon) #33

Alot of you complain about people tapping out right away but I do it for several reasons

  1. Out of ammo
  2. Out of energy
  3. To get around, if I’m under the cliff on battery and I want to be at the back door, the quickest way to get there is to die, plus I’ll spawn with ammo and health and saftey

(Kendle) #34

And why not indeed.

fwiw I’m totally used to TK/revive weirdness in E.T. now. This problem doesn’t bother me in the slightest anymore.

(Coolhand) #35

D*mmit Kendle, how can I argue with you if you’re being so blasted reasonable?
