A little scared

(Weapuh) #1

After looking through Brink dedicated forums, much like the Bethesda forums, and chatting with the people who are “diehard” for Brink. I’ve grown a little scared. Most of what i come across is “will it be X like COD BOPS” or “Will it take as many shots as Bad Company 2” (which is apparently a lot in this arcade shooter reality). These are normal questions sure, what worries me more is the responses of the “regulars” concerning where the comp scene should go, why no snipers or OHK ,“lols 3 bodyshots doesn’t kill people, you never played comp before have you”?

I know Brink is going to be an amazing game, just like W:ET and ETQW are, I want it to be awesome vanilla and I want it to thrive competitively, please some intelligent, informed persons out there tell me there is hope. Because

I’m sick of telling people why a 5v5 comp team would not get owned if one team went 5 operatives in an objective team based shooter…

(Cankor) #2

wait, you’re saying the 5 operative team would not own the other team right? Like this…

I’m sick of telling people why a 5v5 comp team would not get owned if the other team went 5 operatives in an objective team based shooter.

…anyway, there is hope. SD has done it before, so there’s every reason to believe they will do it again with Brink.

it’s a SD game, you always need engineers

Boo hoo. Let us get you some moist towelettes on the way out.

All I know about you is you’re one of those bethesda posters that starts pulling out the word “arcade” when you don’t like something. Like a redneck that calls everything “GAY” you’re a gamer that starts calling crap “arcade” if you don’t like it. It’s this bull**** snob elitist word. Some people grew up on arcades. Some people like whatever it is you call “arcade”. But I bet you can’t even DEFINE “arcade”. It’s just your hot word of the year that makes you feel important.

I’m not trying to be a jerk because I also see your side of things.

I see the same trend and it doesn’t make sense to me either but it sounds like some of what you’re blowing out of proportion is people who are generally curious about features of the game and that’s legitimate.

The aggravating thing about it is the sense of entitlement that some newer users carry into a forum when they make their first post.

“This is what I think and this is why YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME.”

And everyone and their mom thinking they need to fix a game that hasn’t been released yet.

“I heard Brink takes 3 full clips to kill a light body type and there’s no recoil… IF I WAS DESIGNING THIS GAME…”

And so on and so on.

Oh, and welcome to the forum btw

Peace

Don’t know what rock that troll above you crawled out from under of, but thank you.

And I’ve only actually learned this “arcade” term recently and have attached the meaning of a game that the gun mechanics require little to no thought(much like your post). Skill, maybe, but never does it have to enter the mind of the player “their position on the map”, “crossfires”, “follow-up”, “where team-mates are attacking”,“spawn-timers”. Nope they just need the left mouse button and then the game gives them a treat which is %90 of FPS games now.

So apparently all YOU know about me is nothing and you look like a jerk “keyboard warrior”, which most likely you are, for your “canned” response of my post. Especially since it doesn’t even follow what I’ve written.

Hi everyone else.

You obviously have not played an SD game before…

Weapuh, welcome to forum, you arcade.

(Nail) #9

arcade games require monetary input to play, you usually stand to play these games

reference:

hope that clears it up for you

(Weapuh) #10

LOL Nail.

I’ve actually played every SD game.
I wasn’t describing an SD game at all. Was saying what i meant about todays FPS’s to the troll.

If I’m the “troll” you’re referring to then apparently naked honesty is being a troll.

I find it annoying that people go around on the internet calling stuff “arcade” to affirm their own superiority complexes.

They judge games before they come out.

Or you say. “I’m a little scared because…”

Like you’re freaking Fox Mulder on the X-files and you’ve figured out that Splash Damage is secretly sabotaging their own project in order to make you lose your damn grip on the world.

It’s not trolling to ask you to interject some objectivity into your commentary. I KNOW for a fact that I look like an asshole when I say half the things I say. I only say them so that other people pause and consider things besides their own narrow minded vision of things. Or is that too “arcade” for you?

(Vaporman) #12

Chill pills here! Get your chill pills, right here!

(xTriXxy) #13

Weapuh, so you are scared from what? if you played every SD games, then i dont understand why are you scared.

(Weapuh) #14

Ignoring the ignorant troll in the room.

XTriXxy, I’m certain this game will be amazing, it’s clear. I’m afraid that most of the FPS-playing community will not “get it”. Like ETQW (an amazing game) perfect balance in a complex game, died, very very fast. Hopefully with Bethesda backing as publisher it will attract all sorts of people, which will be GREAT! But if people are too in love with more of the same, Run and Gun games covered in dirt and more dirt. That’s what I’m afraid of.

(DarkangelUK) #15

What you said above is what you should have said in your 1st post…

(tokamak) #16

ETQW’s players die reliatively slow compared to modern shooters.

(H0RSE) #17

Who cares if others “get it?” Yes, I know people want a thriving community and all, but really, if people buy it and don’t like it - f*** em’.

I’ll still be having fun whether they “get it” or not.

(brbrbr) #18

i hope, in second part of game[“Brink 2” ?] SD developers will add “programmer” class and even “manager”.
both will become antagonistic[against each other] and become VERY specialised[ingame].
this characters will have access to unique clothes, like “bisiness suit” and “gucci shoes”, for example.

(Nail) #19

lol, I always wanted an Armani w/gucci shoes for customization, that along with “geezer” would have made my day

(SockDog) #20

@Weapuh - SD have pretty much bent over backwards to make the game more accessible to all manner of people while clearly keeping their core gameplay as untouched as possible. I’m less worried that the game isn’t going to fun, than I am the community around it is going to be unenjoyable to play with.

@H0RSE - A thriving community brings a lot of benefits on many levels. While small communities can be fun I’ve found the lack of new blood leads to stagnation. This is why I don’t like the focus being on leveling rather than enjoying the actual game, it conditions people in the wrong direction for long term play.

ps. loving the seam of irony running through this thread.
