A Good time if any

Bf2 is dying big time since the 1.3 patch, so here’s hopin for a multiplayer demo soon cos u should rake in the lots of new paying customers if you did.

(Joe999) #2

lol, you might be right about the BF2 dying, i mean if even serverspy with their wrong stats shows that BF2 ranks below ET (far below), then there must be some truth behind it

1 Half-Life 45666
2 CS:Source 18625
3 Call of Duty 2 14603
4 RTCW: Enemy Territory 11879
5 Battlefield 2 4768

here’s what csports says:

1 Counter-Strike [1.6] 61,293
2 Counter-Strike Source 26,133
3 Wolfenstein Enemy Territory 11,009
4 Battlefield 2 10,831

These services don’t take all BF2 servers into account. Check gamespy:

1 Half-Life - 32062 servers, 77130 players
2 Half-Life 2 - 24347 servers, 60616 players
3 Battlefield 2 - 6947 servers, 25847 players
4 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - 3497 servers, 12114 players

You know, BF2 doesn’t have to fail for ET:QW to be good, and saying so just proves that you’re living under BF2’s shadow. Let’s hope for ETQW to be good, not for BF* to be bad.

(Joe999) #4

erm … 77130 half life 1 players? i don’t think that these numbes are correct.

(Rhoades) #5

yes they definately are. Half life 1 includes all its mods (Day of Defeat, Counter Strike, etc.)

(Joe999) #6

plus bots?

(jimb0) #7

Yes the numbers are correct (as correct as stats of the sort can be anyways). Stop the bot calling, they’re not the issue.

See csports.net, they have 61k CS 1.6 players only, and they’re usually the one who are most vocal about not adding bots. Give a few more from dod and there you are. Steampowered.com even shows three times that total (apparently it takes lanhouse stats into account too).

The problem is that many of these stat services don’t take into account groups of servers because of the way they’re aggregated. For example, Gamespy can take all BF2 servers into account because they host the authentication service, but other stats aren’t so worried about covering this base. On the other hand, id Software games have a more ‘open’ master server functionality, and that’s why you’ll see similar numbers for their games accross most of these sites.

As a rule of thumb, you should always believe the ones with higher numbers (specially higher number of servers covered), unless it’s a game that’s know to juggle bot slots natively (like Q3A and UT2k4). In this case you should analyze the data more carefully, but it’s still a far cry from saying 50%+ of the numbers are made up of bots.

I still don’t understand these fools:
1 Half-Life 45666
2 CS:Source 18625
3 Call of Duty 2 14603

One day they’ll realise they’ve been wasting their lives & energy on sub-standard games when they could have been playing the real thing all along, and for free. I pity them tbh.

preparing to be flamed Sorry but I dont think ET is the game to end all games, I still play CS:Source and DoD:Source when I get sick of ET. And I still have tons of fun. Not everyone has the same taste.

I stopped playing BF2 after reaching First Seargent, but I still check out the forums once in a while to laugh about all the complaining.

Do you know Dice has implemented a vehicle drop ala Quake Wars now? Jeez, when are they going to start having to pay Splash Damage for using all their gameplay ideas.

I got killed by vehicle drops…

The commander used them as silent bombs to kill snipers :frowning:

Who are you to judge people as to what games they play? Judge games all you want but don’t “pity” fellow gamers because they don’t share your opinions.

As for bf2 the latest “patch” has bought out a lot of aggression in the community towards EA/Dice and LOTS of people will atleast try if not buy ET:QW and trust me if you’ve been lowered to EA/Dice standards of gameplay I’m sure people are gonna be in for a rollercoaster ride.

I’ve said it before, BF2142 will be the ghetto, knock off illegitimate in-law of QuakeWars, and everyone will try to compare the two.

Its more like planetside, but whatever…

i think this is only going to add to the dieing of bf2. rather then trying to fix the obvious gameplay/flow issues they just add new toys to people please. surley if they designed the maps without the intention of players using drops then adding them would just cause futher chaos

(Mordenkainen) #17

Wasn’t there a similar thread about how patch 1.2 was killing BF2?

(Rhoades) #18

Not only that, but people will say Quake Wars copied off of BF. When in reality it’s the other way around.

(ParanoiD) #19

Aaw, and you are all telling the same stuff I told before… You guys are like EA :stuck_out_tongue:

it’s common sense to know that’s going to happen.
